One of the reasons WAP-7 "appeared" to have a better acceleration was because it was hauling LHB coaches which are a bit more aerodynamic in design and reduces drag than the ICF coaches. The WAP-4 did a good job in spite of hauling the ICF coaches. Overall I would dare say WAP-4 had a better acceleration.

Although technically WAP 7 is much more advanced features than WAP 4. WAP 4 does not have any HOG system which was enabled in WAP 7. That makes sense. For top speed on speed limited tracks it probably doesn't matter if the train has 5050 or 6120 horsepower. For acceleration however it does matter. I guess the 22 coaches Amrit Bharat with 2*6000 hp will be the long distance trains that stop at every station.

Nice video. Considering equal and fair situations and conditions, I would say that WAP-7 will have best Acceleration. Let me explain.. The biggest impacting difference between WAP-4 and WAP-7 in this aspect is their throttle control system construction. The throttle of WAP-7 is very simple, a vertical handle with only 3 settings (0- initial position, 33%, 66%, 100%). 33% means 33% of traction power is applied. But in WAP-4, the throttle is set up like a tight steering wheel with 32 notches (32 levels) representing the rated loco power. Comparatively, the effort of applying power is very easy in WAP-7. A single notch (33%) is equivalent to 10 notches in WAP-4. Due to this, WAP-7 gets full power quickly than WAP-4, making it the best accelerator. Traction motor wise, WAP-7 has 6 3-phase induction motor with 850kw each, compared to 6 DC series motors of 630kw in WAP-4. Though the race was set up in fairly means considering the power of the respective locos, WAP-7 would still win. Thank you for the video.

The answer lies in simple science, which you were holding … all phones have stopwatch/timer app. You simply needed to time the loco departure and last carriage from where you were recording to decide which train with their respective locomotives, left the station the fastest to get a clear answer. Not to worry, try it next time as it will be an interesting exercise.

Hi pritam sir, is it illegal to shoot train videos in any railway station in India??? cause i was stopped to shoot video at one station in Karnataka, and i asked what's reason behind not allowing and he said it's not allowed here and he didn't even gave any valid reason so just wanted to clear that is it legal or illegal
The staff and RPF just mess with average citizens for no valid reason. Either they don't know the law and are paranoid, or just there to get a power trip out of interfering with others. Happens all over the country in all kinds of situations
Wap7 has better acceleration because it was pulling LHB coaches so they capable to go 200 KM/h but restricted in 130 and wap4 was pulling ICF coaches so that only goes up to 110 KM/h
Wap4 has DC traction motors and DC motors always have advantages of speed control .Induction motors have poor speed control but singly excited more efficient motors. With the discovery of thyristors based frequency controllers in 90s they are able to control motor speeds comparable to DC motors and hence now 3 phase Induction motors are used everywhere for locomotives. Induction motors also do not require rectifiers for any AC DC conversion as required in DC motors since overhead lines are AC hence lowering costs. AC=alternating current DC=direct current.
This is what happens when you learn something at the surface and think that you're a know-it-all. All 3 phase AC locomotives like WAP-7 have rectifiers. First step down transformer is used to lower voltage, then this AC is rectified into DC. This DC is now converted to 3 phase AC using inverters (can be GTO, IGBT, etc.). SPWM control is used for speed control.
wap 7 has the potiential to accelerate even faster but here wap 4 did the job well...dont underestimate the wap4...before the arrival of wap 7...wap 4 rule the express and superfast and even premium trains all over india...inspite of wap 7...still wap 4 doesnt get out of breathe...old is gold💪

Actually one of the main factor is the driver. I remember, MMTS local train, in one trip same train never crosses 76 kmph, while on another day with a different driver, touched 96 kmph which was truly amazing. I feel, such slow drivers should be Demoted to shunting services if they cant even drive at permitted speed of 80-90 kmph
as far as i know, since ages, Gujarat Mail was the only non Rajdhani train (shatabdi and duronto are newer versions) to have 11 AC coaches . now this train has been allotted LHB rakes
i wanna add something as to why LHB coach Train is faster than older ICF coaches. normally locos do provide hotel power for the coaches to run the electric lights and fans etc but what when the loco is not connected ? or there is a cable connect issue between loco and coaches at some point along the train ? then what ? so as backup, ICF coaches have Self generation ie the motion of the coach wheels also drive the generators which also charge the batteries which then provide power to the lights and fans. in AC coaches, this is even more as the coaches has to generate much more energy to drive the AC coaches. All this ultimately makes the train heavier to move for the Loco . LHB have only locomotion, the wheels do not drive any type of generators as all electric power is provided by the EOG coaches using a separate diesel generator so they are effectively lighter for the loco as there is no drag from the generators. so LHB coaches are lighter and faster than ICF coaches irrespective of which loco is being used.

WAP 7 actually has better acceleration, irrespective of the coaches. You can see the technical specifications mentioned in Wikipedia.

Wap5 is better than wap4 and wap7. Wap5 is used for high-speed trains like rajdhani duronto gatimaan etc

I cannot forget the 1997 image of WAP4 hauling Rajdhani express. That locomotive brings back golden memories. Truly Nostalgic feeling

Right now in current situation, 95% of the premium trains including the Rajdhani's, Duronto's and Shatabdi uses WAP7 and not WAP4.

Length of LHB coach and ICF coach are different. LHB is way longer than ICF. So, 22 LHB coaches and 22 ICF coaches does not measure the same length.
