      @onlyinjapanGO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’d say there is almost no risk. The fish are now so farmed that the poison is not really the same anymore. But without that element of death ... it wouldn’t be a delicacy and they couldn’t charge the same price - so no one wants that info to come out. I believe the New York Times has an article on it too 😂 shhh! We can spoil the fun. It’s been a while since someone died from it.

    Question re working on holidays do you get paid extra? In Australia we get double time and half working public holiday. Which is Christmas day, boxing day and new years day.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not nearly as generous as the west. Overtime is 25% and for holidays it’s 35% of normal pay. This is according to the 1947 Labor Standards Act. In general, salaries workers don’t ask for OT pay nor get it despite working more than 40 hrs per week. They’re paid by month not hour. Traditionally, they do get bonuses in summer and winter but when the economy sank in 2008, many bonuses went “poof” and some companies still haven’t brought them back.

    "Because the population is shrinking"
    Osaka's population though slowly is increasing. Tokyo is increasing a lot fast (over a million from 2000 to 2015). Yokohama too, slowly, but it is increasing, not decreasing. We are talking about 3 biggest cities in the country after all. It is normal with urbanization, even if the total population of the country is decreasing.

    Interesting that the Eel is mainly from China - I tried Eel twice when I visited Japan and it was kinda chewy and fatty, not good - have had it here in NZ at Japanese restaurants and its delicious as they are using NZ Eel.

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sara Fearon unagi is really experience in Japan from domestic catches - so Chinese farmed unagi was popular in the 2000s. ¥680 for a full one grilled with sauce! But I got an allergic reaction because they were filling the water with antibiotics - very bad, so I stopped eating it. Haven’t had Chinese unagi since, always Japanese. Love it though!

    Kuromon Market was a place for tourists. Seafood and other stuff were fresh but too expensive. Just looking around only! In fact, not really worth the visit. Chinese and other Asia countries people packed the market. A bit disappointed though. :(

    John just how tall are you? I saw one of your videos of a capsule hotel and i saw the difference in height with your friends? Are you tall or are they short? This is so confusing, happy holidays from Rob, Italy

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They’re OLD. Most capsule hotels built before 1995 are going to be about 185cm to 195cm in length. People were shorter a generation ago. Newer ones are 200cm to 220cm. I’m 180cm tall. Personally, I ONLY stay in one if I need to crash for a night for work. For tourists, it’s curiosity but it should not replace a hotel for a visitor. The services and comfort aren’t there.
