Became a fan during my first Speyside holliday in 2018. In 2019 I won a visit to the launch of Mortlach 47 in London. Quite an exceptional evening I had. The 16 is my favorite considering price/quality.
This whisky is fantastic in my opinion. The negative is that it is extremely expensive in South Africa. In fact it is the most expensive 12yo here.
Una joya 😊lo interesante es que sus alambiques son una mezcla entre los cortos de Macallan y los gordos de glenmorangie.
Nice review. I've tried 2 indie bottles of Mortlach and they were really good. And after hearing this review, I'm going to order me a bottle today. Looking forward to crack it open when it arrives. The price here in Sweden is 651skr (around $57)
Not sure how (or if?) it is in the 12yo, but the16yo has a distinct - and magnificent - savoury character.
I had a bottle of this a few years back. I enjoyed it.
I finally watched this video and tasting Mortlach 12 at the same time. I'm also getting the licorice and the peppery long finish at the back end. Great Scotch and great video review like always Erik. Slaintѐ!
love this stuff...the 12
Thanks Erik for a solid review! Though I haven't tried the 12, I'm a fan of Mortlach 16 and have tried several of the Signatory Unchillfiltered versions at 46%, which are certainly full-bodied and flavorful.
Which Mortlach from the Signatory do you recommend?
I've always attributed the ability of Mortlach malts to punch above their weight class to worm tub condensers. That pleasantly heavy viscosity and long finish is something I also get from Craigellachie. I would say it's just all the ad-speak getting to me but even in blind tastings I always assume products from both producers are of a more substantial ABV than they actually are.
Nice one mate
Dont say anything about the price Erik, I reckon it's great value too compared with peers.
I would like to try it out. I think I only saw 16 one for sale in my area. Thanks for video 📸
The 16 is even better, particularly the older bottles.
It's reasonable here. $60 or so. is the 16 worth it. Has anyone tried it
would like to try but ridiculously priced in my market...
An indie 15 year old at 55% from a refill butt or a hogshead sounds like Nirvana.
My Signatory Vintage CS is young and hot. I think it's a 9 year old rechar @ 59%.
