I wouldn’t say “no reason”. Construction workers were cutting holes into the bridge as part of maintenance work, which presumably compromised its overall integrity. The gust of wind may have been enough to aggravate those weaknesses and overwhelm it. There’s a news report in a later scene discussing that actually.

Well, when you have a premonition, it really is like that. I was once on a bike, and everyone was driving REALLY weird. They were spaced, all going the same speed, like the Blues Brothers before the guy comes blasting through. Never saw that in 40+ years of driving. It's like we were waiting. I slowed down and got away from everyone else. I KNEW the Mustang was going to do something, even tho he wasn't doing anything, but I KNEW. He suddenly decided to get off from the left lane. They had too hard a suspension that made them want to spin. Which it did, on dry pavement, several times. Didn't hit anything and we all just slowed down and stopped at once. Signs/clues 1. The Bus Number: 1282. Adding it like this 1 + 2 + 8 + 2 = 13. 13 is a bad luck number. 2. At 0:04, the sign shows the bridge missing some of the road, indicating the collapses. 3. At 0:07, there’s a ad with 180 on it. In the FD universe, 180 is another bad luck number. 4. At 2:05, a bucket falls and hits the concrete which holds the bridge, it indicates how Peter was supposed to die. 5. The date that the bridge collapses is on April 26. 26 divided by 2 is 13. References 1. In almost any movie with a bridge, the wires or whatever they are called are the first things to make a bridge collapse. 2. The Northbay Bridge collapse was inspired by the Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse in 1940. Similarly to how Flight 180 was based on TWA Flight 800. No lives were lost, with the exception of a dog during the bridge collapse. 3. Theoretically, this is the 5th major disaster to occur, but chronologically, it is the 2nd disaster to occur. 4. At 1:05, a Tagert log truck passes. In FD2 on Route 23, a log truck causes a massive pileup which kills 18 people, and in TFD, the movie theater is called “Tagret Theatres”

When you realise this is actually a prequel to the original Final Destination, you can see the references to future films here. the Number 180 has figured in all the movies, as it was the Flight Number of the plane that exploded in FD1. So the number 180 obviously has some numerological significance The log truck that passes the bus, was the cause of the freeway pile up in the opening of FD2.
