Bill Maher and Fred Durst on: the truth behind the founding of Limp Bizkit, how Fred became an accidental rock star, the great irony of Fred’s bullies being his biggest fans, Fred’s theory on getting energy from a space vacuum, whether or not spirituality makes you live longer, the time Mick Jagger picked up a girl with just a look, and the very definition of hypocrisy.

Let's face it, he did it all for the nookie.
Took the exact words out of my mouth.
….Nookie, and self-nookie is the only reason i live for. Otherwise I would have been out of this boring world along time ago
Come on
I like tha5
So original 🥱
Fred literally looks like a garden gnome
like a quiet legendary garden gnome!
Limp Garden Gnome
Fred’s going to have one of those days and break stuff
I remember when them and Method Man collaborated.. musically united a whole middle school lol
😂 same. I was living in the hood in NJ. One day I get to school and all the ghetto dudes are like yo you seen that limp Bizkit sht? Nookie also spread through my school
He did it all for the movies
Come on..
I see what both y’all did there 😂🙌🏾👌🏾
Fred durst is low key a genius
That's so true
The fact that he likens Limp Bizkit to Spinal Tap and Andy Kaufman really confirms what I've felt for a while - that band and it's music has always been a joke. Not 'joke' in a derogatory tone, but an actual parody. Not only did the jocks become fans, the whole music industry and the culture of the time (especially MTV) became part of the parody because of how big they got. Yes, I would say their music is technically and aesthetically a little cheesy but I have to say that I love what they have done and hope they're laughing all the way to the bank off of those MTV hits. Genius!
Yes and then it morphed into something beautiful
I think you’re giving them way too much credit.
no, fred thinks it all seems like a joke to him now ,but reality was that was the era where music like that had a space, and young musicians like him had no idea why that was happening to him
Fred was great in The Life Aquatic
Holy shit, you're right!
Where'd you come from? You look pregnant.
"Now I know y'all be lovin this shit right here
L-I-M-P Bizkit is right here"
Pure poetry
Fred was a better rapper than Drake.
@@ict113090still is
"It's my way or the highway" -Fred Durst.
so interesting how life works out. i started a gym then after years of preaching organic, homegrown foods and self reliance, i closed the gym and moved to Costa Rica to become a farmer. if you asked me at age 25, 20, 15 if i thought id be a fruit farmer in the tropics one day i wouldn't have even had a response. my mind was in a 'build a billion dollar brand mode' and then i began listening to the universe and followed that path. now, like Fred, i have found success, honor and happiness in a career that i never thought would be, but had to become in order for me to become who i was meant to be. he stood up to his bullies by standing on stage and having them pay him to sing as they sung along to his lyrics, how ironic. powerfully magical as well
Dude! I love this story!!
He did it all for the nookie.
Durst reminds me of Bill Murray in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou 😂
Best LB track? Gotta be _'My Way.'_
Always reminds me of WrestleMania 17.
Ahhh, 2001 ❤
Really is a great song
Boiler and show me what you got
Wow Fred Durst! Never figured he would turn out to look to Dr Anrew Weil's younger brother! Awesome! Limp Bizkit truly felt like a cultural breakthrough when they appeared!
Curt Cobain said the something. When he was on stage he looked out into the audience and saw the same type of people who used to beat him up in school singing along to his music.
Fred Durst has a massive tattoo of Kurt's face on his chest.
Kurt
He looks like a
Garden Gnome. . 😂
Papa Smurf Durst
Been listening since 2 dollar bill in the 90s man LIMP BIZKIT RULES!!!!!!
How have you been listening since $3? Bill and yet call it $2 bill?
Fred Durst out here looking like Steve Zissou.
Fred’s a deep cat. Good to know. Respect. Never knew any of this.
Fred Durst looks like PAPA NOEL........
Love Fred.
I'll always love Fred.
Limp Bizkit fuckin rules and always will.
Some people ask why. Most don’t care.
about being bullied. that's why most of us love BREAK STUFF!
Should have asked Fred if he knows what a cheese curd is. Saw him at a rock festival in Wisconsin in 2010 and all I remember is him asking the crowd “what the fuck is a cheese curd?”
Ah, the old trope of getting even by getting rich and/or famous. I think every one of us who was bullied in school wished for the same thing at least a million times, and if Fred Durst did too, we know we weren't alone. But good on him for having done it. Wish i had- though I'm still not done trying, even at 57. Who knows? I might manage it yet, since I've got probably three more decades to accomplish that fete. Though it's safe to say I won't be doing it by becoming a rock star, as I once had also dreamed of, since I can't sing anymore, and never got beyond 4 years of piano lessons in grade school. But there's still plenty of ways to do it- they're just not as cool.
By the way- to Bill or his "people"- I've been playing catch-up on episodes, since I only recently started watching this podcast, and it's been mostly awesome- even with a few episodes with people I was never a fan of, and still am not- I at least can see a more "real" side of entertainers or other "famous" folk than they normally allow the masses to see. It would be interesting though if Bill could find just an unknown, average, but intelligent and arguably interesting person to interview that he knew almost nothing about, to see how he could play against the unknown instead of people whom we all know something about- at least their bodies of work, if not their histories, personal lives, and careers as we do with all of his guests. Now THAT would be a lovely monkey wrench to throw into the machine, wouldn't it? Too bad famous people only want to talk with other famous people.
Wtf are you saying
@@lntermilan Bless your heart! Clearly, you aren't a member of the target audience I had in mind when I composed this comment, so it should be easy for you to assume that if you don't understand it, you weren't meant to. If in the future you happen to run into something else I've written that you find confusing, feel free to just practice your scrolling technique instead of showing me that you have no manners as well as a potentially mild to moderate cognitive deficit. Happy New Year and have a good day.
Imagine if he had Wes Borland as his acting protege instead of lead guitarist. The Depp to his Burton.
Looking like Papa Smurf.
When I see guys my age start looking like Santa Claus - then I know the game of pretending I'm still somehow not old is officially over. 🤣
Should ask him about that scam in the early 2000s with the new guitarists search.
He did it because he was tired of his limp bizkit not getting the job done, Doh!
Their Woodstock '99 performance was craZy insane, leading to total destruction of the whole festival
Lol no 😂 riot start because bad organisation.
@@vedranvekson4341 poorly organized definitely contributed. Having a song called 'Break Stuff' surely doesn't help either haha
@@MamboKing215 yeah, but main thing is organisation. Bottle of watter price too high, toilets destroyed,no shade from sun etc etc, watch documentary about it,its great. But yeah, break stuff is deff a cherry on cake 🤣
Ur wrong they didn't start shit that festival was unorganized from the jump
@@adamrivera2499 it wasn't their fault nor intention, the riots just started after their performance & the night of the rave w/ Fatboy Slim
So Fred is Santa Claus I get it now
More like a garden gnome
@@Buzca if you told me in the early 2000s that the 2023 version of Fred Durst would look like David the Gnome I’d have started to Break Stuff.
So glad they got Papa Smurf on the podcast. Where's Fred Durst tho
Considering Limp Bizkit was a sort of spinal tap creation, ol Fred sure did sell it as a real thing.
I know people like to clown on Limp Bizkit, and admittedly, a lot of their music is really corny… but if you were in high school or whatever around the time the Significant Other album dropped, you cannot deny that impact it had on music. Even to this day, that album had a few bangers that I like, such as:
-Re-Arranged
-No Sex
-Don’t Go Off Wandering
Those 3 songs are still great, in my opinion. Their music wouldn’t be clowned on and would be taken more seriously if they stuck more with the singing/harmonizing, and the screaming and heavy stuff, and cut out the rapping thing. I think the rapping is what made them a target. If only they stuck to singing and screaming, and went for a more mature sound, and more mature lyrics, I think they’d be sick. But yeah, people can laugh all they want, but they made millions upon millions of dollars.
That era is over of bashing on them. GenZ just discovered limp Bizkit and are showing up in their latest tour in numbers. I was one of them lol the shows in their new tour literally looks like 1999 hysteria
@@Eyeyamgod good stuff… glad to hear that
Kurt Cobain, Fred Durst, Benji & Joel Madden, etc., talk about how they all got beat up by jocks and yet, to this day, not once have I ever seen a “jock” beat up or bully the musical/artistic student. Makes me wonder just how much of it is actually embellished just to have the image of the “bullied art student”.
Korn really helped limp bizkit out big time, started with family values, wes switching to 7 string guitars cause of head and monkey and Fred took it and ran with it!! Favorite time of music
Fred is a very interesting guy...
Interviewing Fred Durst … then at the end “ Are you into anything ??”
Or !! Just getting high all day ?!?!?
LMFAO 😂
Fred is the greatest of all time.
I love fred durst ♥️♥️♥️♥️
He made an embarrassing band and is trying to rewrite history to give himself cred when he's really Scott Stap
I had depth...really! ooof🙄
WTF why Fred looks like a damn garden gnome? LMAO 😂😂😂
shit lighting in the studio.... it's like looking through a hazy cloud....
Better question, why did Bill Maher interview Fred Durst?
And not saying Fred is bad, this is just completely random and unexpected
bill needs to interview Bob...both bands were huge in the same summer 😮
Durst seems like a thoughtful guy. Maher was annoying him but he let it slide.
drsssing like you?? i mean skate and hip hop was purely there before u guys come on
Fred made an awsome movie called the fanatic. With some awsome actors
Fred thanks for all your nice music man! limp bizkit will always be one of the best rock bands ever!
Sad to see him turn into a gnome.
Bill mahr never listened to limp bizkit a day in his life
Who would have thought that Fred Dursts Movies could be even worse than his music
Thought that was Bill Murray 😂 damn we are getting old. Leaving to go watch The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou.
Honestly, I enjoyed The Fanatic.
Maher it's in the group that sounded like Jackson Browne but I can't find it. It sounded like DAWs. Anybody know the real name of the group?
Fred durst look like Santa Claus but bad azz Santa Claus
Can’t see why Eminem would hate this guy
"'That level of bigness"' ???
He looks like Bill Murray’s brother, if he co-starred in the Perfect Storm.
Freds the man...Limp Bizkit has some dope shit..Counterfiet is a classic
Birkenstock rock y’all!
Garden Gnome
Steve Zissou
Holy crap he turned into papa smurf😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Who likes LB still no words to explain … Yet we got all signals!
“You worse than Fred Durst”

Boiler is a great movie actually
Steve Zissou?
This is why I like Fred Durst 🤘🏿
Get Fred on wildride stevo!
Great band. 🤘😎👍

NOOKIE 👍🏻🇺🇲
limp bizkit beatles 😂

The goat
Limp Bizkit = Legend
Limp Bizkit sucked then and it sucks now.
Their Woodstock '99 performance was dope ... There's throwing my bone out to any dummies attempting some sort of hipster revisionist history when it comes to these guys.
Yeah sure, kid.
@@Xeroforte Bruh.
If you consider Limp Bizkit good music then I really don't know what to tell you.
Also I was actually at Woodstock '99.
😂
Massive tool
Truly was one of the worst bands of the last 30 years
Is everyone in these comments suffering from a mass delusion?haha. Limp biscuits reign was one of the most embarrassing moments in pop culture history. He's trying to pull it off like his master plan was to become a director, bulshit. The amount of money and effort those guys put into it was not just some fluke he went along with. Fred Durst is trying to distance himself from an embarrassing past. Let's stop the revisionist bullshit about an amazing band. They were a novelty act like vanilla ice, like the Macarena, like Gangnam Style.
Sure, kid.
“Culturally phenomenal” … as the lowest point in music history
The lowest point is clearly now.
Have you heard any recent mainstream music? :D
You guys beat me to it 😂 the amount trash being put out nowadays is insane...
@@AscenderPrime
Royal Blood, Caroline Rose, wet leg, Queens of the Stone Age.... there's plenty of great music now. In fact there's more music available to the average person than ever before in human history. I know it's edgy to say modern music sucks but all it really indicates is that you haven't listened to to much.
@@jeffgojail So true. Plenty of great music out there but you have to search for it.

This is starting to become Club Has-been.
And what have done to be famous, Mr. Never-Was?
@@galacticmind9060
I mean, Fred Durst, Gene Simmons, Lars Ulrich, Dana Carvey, Rob Schneider, Kid Rock, Chevy Chase, Daryl Hall, Kevin Nealon... It's kind of hard to argue against my point.
@@galacticmind9060
The Rob Schneider one was art. Like anyone gave a crap what Rob Schneider had to say for the one year he was famous, much less now.
@@jeffgojailso what… you wanna hear from the intellectual minds of people like Cardi B or Arianna Grande? Bunch of air heads
Hey at least they've been. You haven't even been yet lol. Also limp Bizkit shows are huge again. They're on tour right now and most of the crowd are gen Z. No lie.
