James - Getting Away With It (Live at Pier 17, 7/12/19)

- James performing "Getting Away With It (All Messed Up)" at Pier 17 in NYC on 12 July 2019. About 2 minutes in, vocalist Tim Booth picks a woman out of the audience to join them on stage, because, as he later explained, she had been dancing so beautifully. (Tim is a dancer/dance teacher, in addition to a singer/songwriter.) I just shot some casual videos for myself that day and decided to share them later, hence the shaky camera. I was doing my best not to dance but wasn't entirely successful :)

This song is very much open to interpretation, and depending on they way you process the words, it could can be a warning against overindulgence, a look at surviving life on the edge, or a commentary on how you can always turn your life around. James vocalist Tim Booth, who wrote the lyrics, has explained that the character Daniel in the song saves a woman named Grace from drowning, and adds, "He doesn't realize that in saving her he's really saving himself."
Thanks for sharing that! I love hearing what song writers have to say about their lyrics, and of course we can have our own ideas, too :)

I certainly did! It was a short set because they shared the bill with the Psychedelic Furs, but it was a really good one.

Amazing! I just filmed a bit that night for myself and then thought, "What the heck, I'll share it." Glad I did and that people are (still) enjoying it. I hope James will come back to NYC soon!
i saw james back in the 90s and i just love coming back to these vids and seeing what they do now lol top 5 best bands for sure
You just have to look at the joy they bring the crowd to realise you’re seeing one of the most consistently great bands across the past 30 years. God has blessed James.

@@grayzone1993 ok uncivilized cause everyone was standing there XD i mean its rock can't expect people not to want to jump dance as close to the stage as possible, but nice they tried to bring rock concert experience to all that would normally would not be so close to the stage James for everyone!
