    Some of you might use an XL6009, and overload it as it's current spec isn't 100% accurate. If you do overload it, this is how to repair it and enhance it at the same time.

    The diode testing setting on multimeters shows the diode forward voltage drop in millivolts, not resistance. A normal silicon diode will show about 600-700mV and a Schottky diode around 250-350mV.
    Also you won't double the current capability of a diode by using two in parallel. Their forward voltage drop has a negative temperature coefficient, so whichever diode gets slightly warmer than the other will pass more current and that will heat it up more until it is passing almost all of the current while the other one passes very little.

    • @rcarioca
      @rcarioca ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfectly correct. It is somewhat like putting two relays in parallel. A sudden surge current could cause one contact to weld at any time.

    • @mahmoudsalah7628
      @mahmoudsalah7628 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you are right but they are pretty close so I think it might actually be a good idea since if one of them heats up it will most likely heat the other too so no problem
      not sure tho didn't try it just my thoughts

    • @RexxSchneider
      @RexxSchneider 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mahmoudsalah7628 It's a nice thought, but it just doesn't work. You might be able to increase the current capability of a single diode by a small amount by putting two in parallel, but you'll never get close to doubling it. The same effect makes it complicated to try to parallel two power BJTs (you usually have to add an emitter degeneration resistor to each one).

    The datasheet recommends and 1N5824 diode in its typical application circuit, also as it isn't a smd component it will allow more heat dissipation.

    i used a 12v dc fan and used xL6009 booster module. for input i used custom li-ion powerbank. on setting voltage to 12voltage, the fan speed is not par as it should be, it increases but not as it ahould be. and n while fan is running, voltage shows at 4 or 5 volts on display..
    what could be the reason, little help will b appreciable.

    In my xl6009 buck boost converter,I had increased output voltage above 45v and suddenly my display showed 0.0v and some 220mA. Xl6009 was getting very hot as well as the ss34 schottky diode at the output section. Checked and found the diode to be shorted. Removed it as per your method and soldered a SR360 schottky thru hole diode on to the pads. Working great now and i dare not increase output voltage above 30v because capacitor at the output is rated at 35v. Thank you for your video and hope this information will help someone. Thanks again !!!

      Donald Henke watch this video, it explains that the diode isolates the inductor coil when the transistor opens the switch:

      If your booster isn’t delivering power it could be a bad capacitor - just a guess, I really don’t know.

    Sir Excellent Tutorial, I was looking around lot of stuff to rectify or to find troublesome issue with Step Up Module XL6009E1. Fortunately got your demonstration. Could you please help on issue i am facing up.
    As i am connected to 5v battery (Its Power Bank rated at 2.1amp) and also 9v Battery with 1amp to step up module and boost to 12v, if i am connected to dc motor all off suddenly it falls to 4v else, shows 12v. Also i have worked with alternative Step up Module MT3608 and the result is end up same.
    I am not able to figure out. Why voltage is getting drop all off sudden.

    • @DeanTheDoctor
      @DeanTheDoctor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may need to increase the input current or increase the resistance of the output (by adding a diode/resistor or two in series with your output) to lower your input requirements.
      A motor usually will draw more than a 5v USB power supply is capable of creating when converting it to 5v > 12v after conversion and efficiency losses.

    Thanks bro I had the same problem, but it's not recommended to solder two diodes in parallel

  • @rcarioca
    @rcarioca 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Putting 2 diodes in parallel is probably unpredictable in current sharing.

    • @AntonyCartwright
      @AntonyCartwright  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, I'm not sure about that... Two diodes which are to the same spec, should have the same or similar resistance. Ofcourse, if they are both the same resistance, current will be halved between them. If one allows more current than the other, then it will still be better than just having one diode!

    • @rcarioca
      @rcarioca 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Practically there would be some current sharing which would probably be enough relieve the power dissipation issue. But since the diodes are not on the same die and tightly matched it is hard to predict how much current sharing occurs. Some is better than none. The ideal solution is to replace with a higher rated diode (if you can get it to fit).

    • @AntonyCartwright
      @AntonyCartwright  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      R HP I agree! Also, the way I stacked them is not good because the sandwiched one will get more current and also heat and won't dissipate it very well... Still though... Got to be better than one.

    • @DeanTheDoctor
      @DeanTheDoctor ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any improvement is better than none! 😋🌎✨

    • @RexxSchneider
      @RexxSchneider 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeanTheDoctor Yes, but two low current diodes won't increase the current capabilities by much because of the negative temperature coefficient of the pn-junction voltage. They are likely to be more expensive and more trouble to solder than one diode with twice the current rating.
