> 9:00 not taking into account think like that the Renown was a particularly crack gunnery ship, and the differences between the crews What do you mean? Ship's pitch, roll, smoke interference and weight offsets all affect its firing accuracy in UA:D. And crews can have different training levels, affecting everything from firing accuracy and speed to damage control.
Well for this I assume the going to set crews to same training level to take that out of equation. Reminds of trying to debate superior ships in age of sail vs Britain when having the same crew quality quite unlikely except Dutch or insignificant American vs British. The superior French 74 Ship of the Line the standard later size vs the British SOL yes the French had the superior ship and the British preferred them if captured. But French Gunnery and ship handling rarely equaled British and never on the fleet basis although one brilliant French Admiral won around India with superior tactics and strategy. So comparing other ships of each fleet much harder. The French victory allowing the US victory at Yorktown because the British had to try to beat an already anchored fleet in mouth of a river. Rigged for battle anchors which could be set to allow ship rotation and steadied the ships for fire were great advantages in the age of sail. Different from just caught at normal anchor which was a disaster for ships.
One thing about this game is figuring out the turret locations on the "dot" system it has is hard to replicate. Meaning, if one has a design one likes it's hard to do the same thing twice to repeat it. It would be nice if there were coordinates or dimensions on the screen as a "heads up" type display.
I'm a bit skeptical of gaming capital battleship (or battlecruiser) against each other to what happens in reality. I'm assuming that geophysical effects like curvature due to firing over a very long range due to the Coriolis force is taken into account (in the game). From memory, much ship on ship action was historically undertaken, during this era, by far less than ideal seeing conditions. Whether is was the time of the day (or night), the weather seeing conditions being obsured by rain, fog, sleet or snow. Can we add the highly variable wind into the equation in deviating shell fire? Let alone the state of the sea (plenty of waves there, varying with weather conditions or swell), on ships that mostly did not have stabilizers inbuilt into the hull. Funny enough, much gun ranging equipment was still being achived by sighting, even in WW2 (through prisms and lenses, but still requiring fire control personnel to see the target to acquire a firing solution), radar range finding only came late into WW2.
I'm the proponent of All Guns Forward configuration. But instead of quad 2x turret i used 3 triple turrets all facing forward. It is immune to "Cross the T" thingy since u only need to angle 30⁰ to fire all guns. The armor is significantly thicker front as the aft armor and deck r thin. Speed? 32 knots or at least fast enough to chase most of battleships. I used such config for capital ships to finish the german campaign till the end :) I wish if such competition exist someone followed same doctrine as me and prove my point. Its likely i can't join becoz me, as german main had committed Seeräuberai 🏴☠️..... -Follower of Koenig im luftrevier song
As someone who has run simulations and even dabbled in programming (albeit nothing to do with warships, it was American football games) I'd be really curious if you are running multiple simulations for each scenario and what the spectrum of the outcomes are. For example, ship A beats ship B 91% of the time, but in 8% of the remaining 9% ship B sunk ship A with only 3 rounds. That might be a big ask and I have no idea if the software does that sort of thing. Or is it given the gazinta's, the gazouttas are always the same?
Drach, have you played the campaign yet? Quite interested to see what you have to say about it as you are very learned on what it takes to run a navy. I have high hopes for this game!
When you delve deeper into the Strasburg class ships they were very well balanced and quite capable. Too bad they never had a chance to prove it out. I would stack them up against any comparable ships on paper.
A WWII scenario that's crossed my mind numerous times: what if more of the French Navy had ignored Germany's terms and/or escaped to the French Caribbean possessions/then-neutral US. I like to think Dunkerque, Strasbourg, or Richilieu could have contributed to the Home Fleet (alternate Bismarck chase, anyone?), but I also think a lacking American ineptitude could have meant SS Normandie (USS Lafayette) would have been a troopship alongside the Cunard Queens. The ability to move an additional 15,000 troops in just one vessel movement would have been CRITICAL in amassing forces for an eventual allied invasion of Europe (D-Day)!
@@mgjmiller1995 Maybe even help out US surface fleet in key battles in the Slot or the British vs Japan. Them vs Italy be fun but I think Italy might stay out of the war if French as well as British warships in the Med.
Two problems I've had so far is: 1) I found it impossible to build a ship with similar capacities as the Queen and R-classes as Britain. I was not trying to rebuild the classes exactly (I could not, I simply don't have the knowledge) but some general concepts. One thing missing was a hull template of appropriate tonnage that has casematte secondary batteries. Also I could not get the speed those classes had without seriously upping tonnage. But again, I'm no expert, but there were definitely no casemattes for the WWI British. 2) The ai builds horribly bad ships (but then it's an ai for a complex game), so far I often went up against 12in armed ships with my now super heavy 23ish knot ships, my reductions in armour to save tonnage did not even seem to matter. My last attempts at the game (so far) I always went 4 vs 4 ships, the lead ship and sometimes the second would often take significant damage, but the enemy would be destroyed utterly. But this game/simulator is definitely promising.

If you are running AI vs AI simulations, you may need to run 200 simulations for each match. That way, you can report the percentage of wins for each match up.
200?! With 5 ships in each division fighting each other, that's 2000 battles, and 4 divisions, that's 8000 battles! Good luck getting them results before the game is fully released lol
@@andygeary3531 Not familiar with the game, but if it is AI vs AI and you simply want to know who wins without actually show move by move, shot by shot, it should be fast.
@@ycplum7062 sadly you can't put the battle speed above x5 and so each battle would take approx 20 mins AI controlled. 8000 battles x 20mins = is 266 hours lol
To be honest, Strasbourg and Scharnhorst should dominate because they will have most modern hulls and superstructures and guns and other tech niceties. This means they should start hitting over longest distance. Between those two, it kind of depends at their rate of fire, even if Scharnhorst guns are weaker, because with more and more hits the accuracy of the target ships will decrease. And then it also depends on how the battle goes and if Scharnhorst gets into torpedo range.
Bismarck vs Hood!? or post Dreadnought´s are not allowed? If so i want a Ironclad Dreadnought with Dreadnought Combat Weapon, Siege Drills and dual flamers, nvm the HKM`s..
It's because Scharnhorst was the last surviving example of her class and if she hadn't gone down in '43, would almost certainly have finished the war with her 11" guns.
@@Drachinifel But then again, early on you state that it is 1945 configuration, and by then Gneisenau would have had the 15 inch guns if she existed. Which leads into my main comment/question: why 1945 assumed versions where all ships were in existence and operating in the 1940-1942 period.
In the 1930s UK campaign I made a Modernized Dreadnought I hull with an all-forwards triple superfiring quad 14-inch cannons, and 7 quad 22-inch torpedo tubes aft. This game is glorious.

Game has wonderful potential... but currently has an abominable AI and a very borked ship construction menu :/ And don't get me started on the way the game handles torpedos... I'm watching one of BrotherMunro's replays now and the AI will spin a ship around 180 degrees on the square area of a dime in less than 5 seconds to avoid your torps while they spam the entire ocean with theirs :(
This is not a torpedo dodging problem, it's a problem with how the game handles engine damage. The speed of the ship slows ridiculously fast when it's engines get taken out, but the turning speed is not affected, resulting in very silly psychics mechanics, but only in the occasion mentioned. I'm pretty sure that the devs will fix this before the game is fully released.
@@andygeary3531 More issues than that. Seen too many replays where the AI knows there are player torps in the water almost instantly 5k+ away and will do instant U-turns in the water (engines all undamaged)
@@lumpusmaximus8257 well the player and AI have the same detection radius, so if you reduce it for the AI then you will also be reducing it for the player. Obviously the AI has the benefit of being able to multitask, having eyes everywhere and being able to react immediately. But the AI is also terrible at choosing when to shoot their own torpedoes, launching at max range and so missing their own shots all of the time too (as long as the player is capable at torpedo dodging). So it evens itself out. Maybe you think that torpedo spotting range should be reduced by both player and AI to make it more historically accurate, which is a fair opinion, but this will only result in players complaining that they don't have enough time to react to torpedoes, and considering a lot of players already find it hard to dodge torpedoes, I can't see how this would be an improvement to the game. Also the current system of torpedo spotting has many variables which make balancing even harder- Tower torpedo spotting Acoustics Torpedo type Torpedo size So maybe there is a case to 'dumb it down' to make balancing easier, or possibly put a cap at the max spotting range, but whatever changes you make to nerf the AI will also nerf the player. You could add an artificial nerf just to the AI, but imo giving nerfs/boosts to the AI to manufacture an uneven playing field is bad practice in any game. Not to mention that most experienced players beat the campaigns either losing 1-2 ships or none at all, do you really think nerfing the AI is a good idea when the game is already too easy to win? Personally I think the devs have created a fantastic game, and no matter what balance changes they make, there will be those that think they were an improvement and those that don't.
The citadel system in the game isn't good enough yet to warrant this kind of tournament. In the future perhaps. It's gonna happen anyways though so I'd like to see this happen again in the future when the ship designer is better. If it gets better.
Why does everyone think the Bismarck is cool? And does smaller stature help ones head below deck? I think I really cussed my con on battleship New Jersey. Why would you name them after Iowa? It’s not the massive shoreline.
Sadly though the whole experiment has been rendered a complete waste of time, unless it is considered just for lolz. As drach says their are limitations of the game that are significant, and certain elements been vastly over powered. But after watching some of the videos, it's abundantly clear that whichever ship Monroe wants to win, Wins!
Most people who play this game I've noticed build WW2 'battleships' yet when I look at the screenshots of the games marketing i.e. Steam they are all actual 'dreadnoughts'. So no ones playing the game properly???
Old can we design the best ship. Three double turrets forward 18in guns. 3 5 inch guns on each side. 20 mm machine guns 50 all over the ship.. almost no armor steam turbines for power. I know it would be a bit redundant, but I'd love to see something like a 1930s-era USS West Virginia or USS Tennessee versus a year appropriate opponent, then that same opponent not being upgraded at all but fighting the end-war versions of West Virginia or Tennessee. To see exactly how much difference the upgrades would make if any.
Hey so I made the Thunderchild as described in a previous video in UA Dreadnought and it was very tricky but worked. You could try making it for a video also.
Did you use one of the French ironclad hulls?
@@danhaas9730 It probably was. I clicked unlock on all hulls and parts and looked for the hull that fit best. Then worked around that. It was tricky but not impossible. I can’t wait for future updates so that more can be done creatively.
@@danhaas9730 it was the 1900 French light cruiser 2 hull

watching Drach for past 2 years got me super into Steam era naval aspects (previously only knowledgeable about modern era) and when I found UA:Dreadnought, I got good at it quick all because of DRACH, when I watch his vids I want to play it lol
Drach in UAD??? Excellent!!
Yay to the 13" warp-speed canons!
My predictions on paper are.
1.Scharnhorst
2.Renown
3.Strasbourg
4.Andrea Doria
5.Kongō
What a pleasure!
So does this program let you build the G3 and J3 designs that were cancelled after the Washington Naval treaty? I would like to see that.
Yes it does :)
@@Drachinifel Please do that.
I've always wondered how the Nelson class would fair against the Yamato. Is there anyway you could please simulate that one of these days?
I'm excited to see the impending match ups. Any chance for the alternate battle of Denmark Strait ? Cheers Drac, - wright
> 9:00 not taking into account think like that the Renown was a particularly crack gunnery ship, and the differences between the crews
What do you mean?
Designs are saved & can be copied now
@@antonhengst8667 Yes. That's a helpful feature. It would still be good to have ship dimensions noted when placing things, similar to a CAD program.
By holding shift you can place things outside of the "dots"
@@loki244ti Yes. It would still be good to have the dimensions noted when placing items so that one can repeat a design.
I used such config for capital ships to finish the german campaign till the end :)
I wish if such competition exist someone followed same doctrine as me and prove my point. Its likely i can't join becoz me, as german main had committed Seeräuberai 🏴☠️.....

Silly question, but does it model national bursting charge differences?
Was wondering how long it would be before Drach said something about UAD.
I love the warp speed guns description oft he Strasbourg lmao
As someone who has run simulations and even dabbled in programming (albeit nothing to do with warships, it was American football games) I'd be really curious if you are running multiple simulations for each scenario and what the spectrum of the outcomes are. For example, ship A beats ship B 91% of the time, but in 8% of the remaining 9% ship B sunk ship A with only 3 rounds. That might be a big ask and I have no idea if the software does that sort of thing. Or is it given the gazinta's, the gazouttas are always the same?
Not a difficult call to make, renown should win. The game favors big guns, and british will get excellent fire control as well.
Them vs Italy be fun but I think Italy might stay out of the war if French as well as British warships in the Med.
heck yeah this game is great!
Gameing.
I was rather hoping you'd look at this game!
any plans to do recreations of the german h class battleships?
How many times will the engagements be run to average out "lucky" hits, etc.?

Renown vs Scharnhorst
Richilieu vs Bismarck

If you are running AI vs AI simulations, you may need to run 200 simulations for each match. That way, you can report the percentage of wins for each match up.
200?! With 5 ships in each division fighting each other, that's 2000 battles, and 4 divisions, that's 8000 battles! Good luck getting them results before the game is fully released lol
@@andygeary3531
Not familiar with the game, but if it is AI vs AI and you simply want to know who wins without actually show move by move, shot by shot, it should be fast.
@@ycplum7062 sadly you can't put the battle speed above x5 and so each battle would take approx 20 mins AI controlled. 8000 battles x 20mins = is 266 hours lol
@@andygeary3531
Maybe get volunteers to run battles? Technically, it is an AI vs AI battle so there really isn't a set up. Just report the results.
USS Splendid. I appreciate your nostalgia tho. Ok fun now…
To be honest, Strasbourg and Scharnhorst should dominate because they will have most modern hulls and superstructures and guns and other tech niceties.
Considering that this tier is mainly Battlecruisers, you could put Hood in here for a Laugh...
I haven't been this early since the kamchatka was potentially a good idea.
I really wanted Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts to have a multiplayer gameplay mode like World of Warships.
's interessting how it's strassbourg and not dunkirk on the one side but scharnhorst over gneisenau on the other (assuming 15" gun gneisenau ofcs...)

Ey Bro...Cheers now video ¡!!!
UA:D REALLY needs a PvP mode.
Game has wonderful potential... but currently has an abominable AI and a very borked ship construction menu :/
And don't get me started on the way the game handles torpedos...
Also the current system of torpedo spotting has many variables which make balancing even harder-
Tower torpedo spotting
Acoustics
Torpedo type
Torpedo size
So maybe there is a case to 'dumb it down' to make balancing easier, or possibly put a cap at the max spotting range, but whatever changes you make to nerf the AI will also nerf the player.
But can't you give Andrea Doria PLOT ARMOUR? Dun-Dun---DUUUN!
The citadel system in the game isn't good enough yet to warrant this kind of tournament. In the future perhaps. It's gonna happen anyways though so I'd like to see this happen again in the future when the ship designer is better. If it gets better.
I had this kind of matches done for MN Massena vs HMS Majestic. Spoiler alert - Massena lost. Three times of four.
Man were you wrong about the Andrea Doria.
Why does everyone think the Bismarck is cool? And does smaller stature help ones head below deck? I think I really cussed my con on battleship New Jersey. Why would you name them after Iowa? It’s not the massive shoreline.
reminds me of world of warships
Such a huge potential in the game, yet such a slow development and the way they are taking it... :(
Patience is a virtue
@@andygeary3531 Ignorance is a bliss. :)
Game mechanics of UA:A are so crappy that it will probably will be fun!
Old can we design the best ship. Three double turrets forward 18in guns. 3 5 inch guns on each side. 20 mm machine guns 50 all over the ship.. almost no armor steam turbines for power. On the stern 6 torpedo launchers with rapid reload capability. If somebody's going to chase me I'm going to sink their ass LOL
I don't think UAD is ready for these sort of things, the game is still super limited even with all that it has already.
Please don t run the battle only once in the game.It s a drag, but it will average out lucky shoots.
