I've always said, the quality of the recent projects aside, whether you like any of em or not, the major problem with the Star Wars fandom has always been entitlement. @@howellgame4850 Sure, but there's actual good arguments for the prequels not being bad as a trilogy due to its overarching narrative, among other things. The sequels defense mostly involves approving either it being pretentiously avante-garde (TLJ) or mindless nostalgia-bait (TFA & tRoS). Everyone will defend what they watched as kids, but that does not mean every defense has equal merit when examined. The same goes for hatred.
There’s some great Star Wars fans especially in the real world. The problem is that it’s incredibly easy to grift of the hatred so many creators just hate on the product for clicks. Like there’s plenty of star wars content I don’t like but I’m not going to shit on the creators and make it toxic. The problem is that the vocal minority gets pushed to the top because it makes social media companies so much money
why do you think it even gets them views. Because a lot of people hated how Disney handled the franchise. Look at the how abuzz with anticipation the franchise was after Force Awakens. Last Jedi ripped the fandom in half, thats obvious from the drop in box office. Last Jedi did well from the hype generated from Force Awakens, but then cut Rise of Skywalker down at the knees. Sure it made billion, but you can bet Disney would have happier if they made 2 billion from Rise of Skywalker, heck they could have made 3 billion. Then Solo lost money and scared Disney away from making Star Wars films. Also this whole fans don't say anything negative idea is crap. Fans have always been vocal if a story they loved took a turn they did not like. The phenomenon predates film. Sir Author Conan Doyle killed Sherlock in The Final Problem, and got a huge backlash from fans of his character, so much that he retconned Sherlock back to life. Some people watching current star wars seemingly with their eyes closed and so miss glaring creative issues that are strangling the franchise. Just from myself looking around TH-cam, the major emotion towards Star Wars is apathy.

Ay the prequels are good I’m with Cody on this one also I haven’t heard Cody talk about Star Wars in a interview since Carson’s interviewed him as the prince of dark matter
When you think about it, all fan bases are toxic asf. But nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compares to the toxicity of Wrestling fans (and Star Wars too ofc). Like a saying goes, "I love wrestling, but I absolutely hate the fanbase." Cody Rhodes just knows, and that's exceptional that he does.
There are sections of the wrestling fan base toxic sludge that they all clamor for the return of sex criminals, guys who hit women, bigots... just the worst sorts of people who, "were entertaining in the ring, bro!"
Cody is somewhat behind the cultural times. Thanks to the disney trilogy, fans have been going more easier on the prequels. Last I checked, the fandom isn't even toxic these days. It's just dead.
Lol no, before the prequels everybody in the fandom complained about ROTJ and Ewoks then everybody decided those were good because of the prequels. As far as the fandom being dead that happened after both ROTJ and ROTS too I especially remember hearing rumbling of sales for AOTC merch being bad as a kid.
Nail on the head, really. I think if you take out Jar Jar and the gungans, make Anakin a little older in the first film, and then, I dunno, had some actually romantic chemistry, dialogue and scenes that didn't make you puke between him and Padme, and the prequels aren't bad at all, they're mediocre.
This cannibalization happens in every fandom, its usually the only place where very passionate people can intensively discuss about the minutiae of what they like, and controversial topics just create bigger divides. The thing Cody's right about tho, is that both Wrestling and Star Wars cover such a LONG timespan that it has some very pronounced generational divide on TOP of other discussions.
I remember saying to my friend after my first WWE show (Raw in Calgary, 2005) that the worst thing about pro wrestling was the wrestling fans. Harassing wrestlers on their way out to their cars after the show, getting angry in their nerdy debates with each other, etc.
@@colonicusI don't think dialogue is the most pressing matter in an action scene. Nonetheless, Star Wars has always had a cheese factor to it, but that was part of the fun. Same with Star Trek and Flash Gordon and Transformers among others. The problem with the fans is taking everything too seriously. Which, I understand to an extent because cheese aside, there is still dramatic moments in Star Wars that captivate, Luke and Vader talking in Return of the Jedi comes to mind immediately, but the overzealous fans sometimes make it difficult to remember to have fun. It's like Mystery Science Theater said, "Repeat to yourself 'it's just a show, I should really just relax"."
@TheEman590 Totally agree dude. It's literally just a fun space opera. Getting angry about it is weird. Putting it on a pedestal is weird. I'm always going to love it because I grew up loving it. Doesn't mean I think it's perfect and doesn't mean I have to like everything about it or every film or series.
@@colonicus I can understand being on a pedestal to an extent since it did change cinema in a number of ways, especially with special effects. Movies like Alien wouldn't have been made without Star Wars being a huge success, a phenomenon even. But the standard has been set for so long, it can lead to disappointment if one is hyped with such high expectations. This happens with a lot of films, though.
@TheEman590 Yeah it's one of the most influential films ever, so it deserves its place to some extent, at least the first one anyway. I just think expecting anything Star Wars to be perfect and getting angry when it's only half decent, or by contrast defending the bad bits as perfect cinema and ignoring the flaws, is all very silly. The same as thinking anything Lucas did is perfect and anything Disney touch is bad, purely by definition. The next one might be the best film ever made, might be dreadful, but it'll look and sound cool, and kids will love it and I'll probably enjoy it even if it's rubbish, like I still enjoy ep 2 even though it's objectively terrible for 60% of the runtime.
I feel he same for the prequels. Yes I watched the OG trilogy as a young boy as well, but I never related to them as much as Anakin Skywalker. It's just sad seeing Star Wars in the hands of soulless storyboard groups and KK in terms of the movies. Some of the shows however, pretty decent.
I grew up in Star Wars and I remember older kids telling me what novels I should read or what comic to buy, I was new and a kid to the franchise so they helped a lot but now Star Wars isn't about the story or characters, it's the same for wrestling, the fans are more busy attacking each other than enjoying something, though there is nothing to enjoy about current star wars
One fanbase I consider the worst than both of them is the Dragon ball community. They will fight over anything. dub vs sub, og soundtrack vs ocean soundtrack, anime vs manga, db vs dbz vs dbs vs dbz kai, 16:9 vs 4:3 and many more. 😂
@@shinzonthetaThat's a shame because I do love me some Doctor Who. The companions, the set pieces, the enemies like the Daleks and the Cybermen. Of course, everyone has their favorite doctor. Mine are 2, 4, 7 and 9.
Cody is 100% on point here. I’m 43, OT is my favourite with Empire Strikes Back my favourite of the three. As a wrestling fan of 30+ years Bret Hart is my goat
I feel like the key difference (and why the Sequel trilogy won't get the same popularity bump as the Prequels) is that those films aren't designed to connect to kids. Every Star Wars film post Prequels has been PG-13, and if a kid is going to watch a PG-13 film, they're way more likely to be into Marvel than Star Wars.
I'm 6 months younger than Cody, I saw those prequel movies in the theatre and straight up, Episode III is the only one I ever said "yep, that was good". Any praise for Episodes I and II came 15 years later in retrospect. Every kid in my school hated those movies. I can't think of ANYONE who defended those 2 movies as good until the 2010's.
Nah I liked Episode 2 even when I was younger. There's a lot of people who were young and enjoyed watching them but either got shouted down by adults or by other kids following the cultural zeitgeist of hatred. That's why it's popping up 15 years later, they've grown up and get to voice their opinions online. Also, 2008 TCW made it "cool" to enjoy prequels content.
1. Empire Strikes Back 2. Revenge of the Sith 3. A New Hope 4. The Phantom Menace 5. The Last Jedi 6. The Return of the Jedi 7. The Force Awakens 8. Attack of the Clones 9. Rogue One 10. The Rise of Skywalker 1. William Regal 2. Eddie Guerrero 3. Owen Hart 4. Fit Finley 5. Chris Jericho 6. Kurt Angle 7. Lance Storm 8. Bradshaw 9. Dustin Rhodes 10. Mr. Perfect
The thing with Star Wars is, it’s a kids movie. I enjoy it because it’s simple. It’s a good guy with a blue or green sword… or a purple sword and a bad guy with a red sword. There’s no grey area. There’s no in between. It’s a series of 6 movies of a basic story of good guys vs bad guys.
hes not wrong about the prequels. The screenplay may suck and the delivery of lines may be a bit poor, but it still communicated what was intended. And did a fairly good job executing it visually
When I saw the title of this video, I thought I'd disagree with Cody, but nope, he's right. I always liked the Star Wars prequels. Watching Anakin Skywalker become Darth Vader was groundbreaking. A lot of people didn't appreciate the prequels though, until recent years when they finally realized they weren't that bad, especially when compared to the latest trilogy. Sometimes, fandoms just take a while to "get it," & that's ok.
Groundbreaking? Nah, lame, that's the word you were looking for. And it's still objectively true that the prequels are lame. Watch the OT again and you'll see why. Lol we're messing around here tbh. But I don't get how anyone can enjoy the CGI fest that has no substance. Although, I can guarantee that most AEW fans are also prequels fans
I wouldn't say 'get it', but they appreciate it more. To make a wrestling analogy it's when the in-ring work isn't amazing but you got so invested in the story they were trying to tell that you're willing to overlook the shortcomings. With the modern sequels the story isn't particularly great and the in-ring work isn't good enough to compensate, and bringing out old stars like Han, Luke and Leia in an attempt to put over the new guys didn't work because it felt more like a burial and ended up with no one getting over. I don't know what was more awkward: seeing Palpatine come out of retirement for one more match or Shawn.
The word Fan is short for Fanatic, which is defined as someone exhibiting a belief or behavior involving uncritical zeal or an obsessive enthusiasm. With that said, distance makes the heart grow fonder. I'll bet a lot of those who defend the prequels today weren't as charitable 20 years ago. I'm one of those people. Still, I'm way more likely to sit down and watch one of the original 3 than any of the others.
I was 10 when Episode 1 came out. I knew it was worse than the originals back then, but didn't have the vocabulary to express how. Despite being young when I saw them all, I can recognize today how bad all of them were. Anyone who loves the prequels unironically has bad taste.
The major flaw that I think with the prequel is having Anakin remain a kid in the whole Phantom Menace. Him being a kid and Qui Gonn being killed should have happened in the first 30 minutes. Then have Obi wan and Anakin battle out Darth Maul with Darth Maul almost killing Anakin which triggers Obi Wan and have Darth Maul be defeated the same way.
The prequels were cheesy and campy and giant marketing to kids. But they were something that wasn't terrible, and a lot of people grew up with them. With time I think they've aged into something that I view fondly. Obviously the original trilogy is fantastic. I cant say the same for the sequels.

I've always said, the quality of the recent projects aside, whether you like any of em or not, the major problem with the Star Wars fandom has always been entitlement. I don't think there's any other fandom that feels an ownership to an IP the way a SW fan does. Every Star Wars fan has their own criteria for what is "Star Wars" and you will never make the entire fanbase happy as a whole with any decision that is made
Anime fans are just as bad.
Oh, superhero fans feel the same sense of ownership. Fitting that Disney snapped up Marvel and Star Wars. Honestly surprised they didn't buy WWE to complete the set.
Gatekeeping is in every fandom, its not unique to star wars
@@CCtheRapperman Yeah, but this is about fandoms with the highest *density* of gatekeepers.
You guys say Gatekeeping as if it's a bad thing.
Most fandoms gatekeep because they don't want the thing they love to change in a way that doesn't make sense.
Star Wars we could argue should be Gatkept because the current content is just so insulting as Disney doesn't even Acknowledge how much the series has to offer yet makes the worst and stupidest changes possible.
There are Gatekeepers to even Wrestling since there is so many different styles look at Jim Cornette he is the very definition of a Gate Keeper. He hates nearly every other style of modern pro wrestling and only acknowledges the American style.

For real I’ve seen people who hate wwe and casual fans and sports entertainment still compliment them every now and again….star war fans nope, they literally stale their claim and there’s nothing anyone can do to change that and it’s worse since the community is filled with TH-camrs making the worse videos imaginable over and over again
Disney fans are the absolute worst💯
@@curtailedbike4123 Yeah, the amount of bad takes in star wars youtube is crazy. Half of them know nothing about star wars too! Like complaining about X new episode changing the lore, despite doing nothing of the sort and Lucas changing things himself all the time between ep 4, 5 and 6.
At least the insufferable wrestling fans are usually annoying because they know too much, or they like one style of wrestling so much they can't see that other stuff is good too.
"I say this as someone who is a mindless consoomer with my slop products!"
Thanks for outing yourself as a non-fan who likes the flashy substance of Star Wars, and not the actual quality. Then the executives berate the fans on how bad they are because they hate diverse characters even though they gloss out bad plots and that some characters are much better when KK and people associated with her are not involved make the characters somewhat to reasonably likeable.
Goof thing about 90% of the Star Wars made by Disney sucks
People said the same thing about both Attack of the Clones and Clone Wars back in the day.
Just reminder, Star Wars isn't made for adults, it's made for children. Adults complaining about Star Wars being to childish might as well complain about Paw Patrol for the same reason
We rallied around Andor, people tend to ignore that for their convenient narrative of "the Star Wars fandom is the worst".
I´m with you Cody; I grew up with the prequels, Phantom Menace is the first Star Wars film I´ve seen and it´s amazing
I love Star Wars I don't consider myself a part of the big fan base I just like to stay in my own lane. It's not a perfect franchise but it's still incredible.
I love that the comments of this video are proving cody right. there's a lot of disney Sequels bad and original and prequels Trilogies good in 10 plus years there are going to be sequel Trilogy good new films bad talk i Guarantee it.
Fr, these sequel haters completely missing the point that this is the same thing people said about the prequels 20 years ago
I’m also fan of The Prequels big up Cody 👊
There’s some great Star Wars fans especially in the real world. The problem is that it’s incredibly easy to grift of the hatred so many creators just hate on the product for clicks. Like there’s plenty of star wars content I don’t like but I’m not going to shit on the creators and make it toxic. The problem is that the vocal minority gets pushed to the top because it makes social media companies so much money
Yep. Like nerdrotic and his friends. All grifters who just hate everything for the sake of hating it because that gets them the views.
why do you think it even gets them views.
@@Jasonvoorhees57469 You mean the same Nerdrotic who did several livestreams with his friends going over how much he liked Reacher, One Piece, and House of the Dragon? That Nerdrotic? Shut the fuck up about stuff you clearly know shit about.

Also, why are they grifters, cause they're trying to get views? Guess what, thats 99% of TH-cam.

He really nailed it. It's all about whith what you grew up with. Still fans are agrueing like there is only one true answer to it!
Only reason I disagree with him about the growing up with your heroes part, is becuase I grew up with the prequels but I really loved the original trilogy also! Same with wrestling I grew up with the Attitude Era, but I loved what came before it too!
My point is, I genuinely feel both products just dont live up to what we had before. Those times were unfiltered and didnt have a bunch of liberals infecting all of the things we enjoy today with their activism.

lolol too true
When you think about it, all fan bases are toxic asf. But nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compares to the toxicity of Wrestling fans (and Star Wars too ofc).
Like a saying goes, "I love wrestling, but I absolutely hate the fanbase."
Cody Rhodes just knows, and that's exceptional that he does.
There are sections of the wrestling fan base toxic sludge that they all clamor for the return of sex criminals, guys who hit women, bigots... just the worst sorts of people who, "were entertaining in the ring, bro!"
The prequels are garbage. What you're experiencing is nostalgia.
Far better then Rey 😮
I hated 1,2, and 3 until I watched 7,8, and 9. 😂
Star Wars is just a fun franchise. Not a religion.

For good reason
This cannibalization happens in every fandom, its usually the only place where very passionate people can intensively discuss about the minutiae of what they like, and controversial topics just create bigger divides. The thing Cody's right about tho, is that both Wrestling and Star Wars cover such a LONG timespan that it has some very pronounced generational divide on TOP of other discussions.
I was 8 for SW, saw the prequels in my 20s. Wholly rejected to Sequel trilogy after the first one.
I remember saying to my friend after my first WWE show (Raw in Calgary, 2005) that the worst thing about pro wrestling was the wrestling fans. Harassing wrestlers on their way out to their cars after the show, getting angry in their nerdy debates with each other, etc.
Amazing. Every word of what Cody just said.. was RIGHT.

@Vergil-512 "YoU underEstImate my poouwa"
Come on dude. The fight is cool, but the dialogue is terrible.
Still love it though.
Cody has come such a long way from his early days in the ring. It's been awesome to see his evolution.
If i wasn't sold on cody i am now, i grew being told the prequels suck but i loved them
I feel he same for the prequels. Yes I watched the OG trilogy as a young boy as well, but I never related to them as much as Anakin Skywalker. It's just sad seeing Star Wars in the hands of soulless storyboard groups and KK in terms of the movies. Some of the shows however, pretty decent.
Humans as a society tear themselves apart... As a whole, at any given opportunity. The internet proves that.
Love you Cody. Prequels were ok. Just ok. To say they were really good.......is a stretch
No matter where you stand--original trilogy or prequels--at least we can all agree that the sequel trilogy SUUUCKS!

Prequels were great... the sequels will forever be trash.

He should see the DC vs Marvel Fandom conversations online. It's the only thing comparable to WWE vs. AEW discourse I've witnessed.
i loved the prequels .. especially the 2nd one ... hayden's performance with that dark side tease was on another level .
Anakin's actor was bullied out of Hollywood and Jar Jars' was nearly driven to end it. That's how "popular" episode 1 was.

I'm old enough to appreciate all 3 trilogies so far. I have my gripes but I'm not hardline on any of them. Star wars is fun.
Not a big fan of Star Wars but good movies!
hes not wrong about the prequels. The screenplay may suck and the delivery of lines may be a bit poor, but it still communicated what was intended. And did a fairly good job executing it visually
This is a great point that's why I'm not gonna be surprised when the sequels get switched up on they are already switching up on Finn
It’s the new fans!!!!! Don’t blame me!!!! George Lucas wouldn’t have let any of this happen!!!!!!!
the prequels were made because he got annoyed of fans pestering him to make new star wars content
Episode 1 is good, episode 3 is goated and episode 2 is the one everyone refers to when they say things like “the prequels are bad”
I agree I always liked the prequels. The newest ones are the one’s that suck just because they tried to be the originals just with a lil twist
Prequel love!! Yes!! I love both the prequels and the original trilogy.
2 fandoms I could do without. I grew up with the OG trilogy so the prequels and the sequels don't do it for me. Fav wrestler: The Undertaker .
I agree it’s crazy to see the hype around Roman and his gang
Speaking of fandoms that love to fight with each other, Cody is the Boruto of WWE
Just like that, Cody Rhodes became one of my favourite people :D And I'm not even a wrestling fan lol
Every star wars film trilogy has poor writing, directing and planning but damn it they are charming and have great world building.
The fandoms for Star Wars and DBZ are ridiculously toxic beyond belief.
Star Wars and Wrestling are the mains. Respect ❤
Cody couldn’t be more right. I just got back into watching wrestling and boy… those fans need to chill
The prequels were cheesy and campy and giant marketing to kids. But they were something that wasn't terrible, and a lot of people grew up with them. With time I think they've aged into something that I view fondly. Obviously the original trilogy is fantastic. I cant say the same for the sequels.
I am not surprised here since Stardust was clearly a Star Wars character and Goldust from 2014 definitely looked like a gold version of Darth Maul.
It's almost like neither group is a monolith
Not controversial and it all started when The Force Awakens broke box office records and became lazy.
