- Big Mama surprised us with her piglets today. We knew she was close but didn’t think it would be today. Come along as we share how it went and what all we had to do.

Congratulations, Stan! I'm sure you made a great birthing coach for Big Mamma. Glad you were able to be there and to experience the process. It went as well as I could have hoped. We’re very fortunate. I will definitely keep back 3/4 but I’m undecided of what I’ll do with the 4th. Thank you and we hope you have a great weekend as well.

Absolutely. This was certainly that. We even had some really great friends stop by who wanted to experience it and help if needed. We were very fortunate!
The placenta takes allot longer because it has to detach from the wall of the uterus completely before being passed. Just never pull it, uterine tears are a vet call. Wonderful birth story, I love your set up for farrowing.
Thanks for the info. The breeder told me there could be up to 4 pass. I never pulled one thankfully so that’s good to know for the future.
@@RockyCreekHomestead I have heard the same with goats! There can be one or one for each. I’ve only ever seen one even with multiples before.
Since this is her first litter, the nesting behavior may not have manifested. Her next litter may have more nesting behavior.
She’s done great, despite not having too much nesting behaviors she’s been fantastic in caring for the piglets. So glad we got her.

We do. The ones that will be raised for processing are given their first dose of vaccines as piglets and that’s all. The ones we keep as breeder or pet are vaccinated annually.
Can you tell me what is the vaccine and where do you get it.
There’s different types you can use, I use Rhini Shield and order from here www.circlecsupply.com/elanco-rhini-shield-tx4-swine-vaccine-100ml.html . This is what was recommended by the first breeder I purchased mine from.

Wait! I am new. What happened to Henry?
It was a crazy situation. We used to have our female pig (Olivia) and Henry together in a large pen under a bunch of oak trees thinking it would provide them shade in the summer. Well I came home from work one day to find him dying. I determined a large limb fell out a tree and landed in him breaking his back. He died within minutes of me coming home. He was my daughters favorite pig so it was a sad day for our household. These piglets have been a huge blessing.
