Titanic's Engines in images.

  • This is something I've wanted to do for a while - I've generated a lot of still images of the engines as this project has progressed, many if which I think really capture the majesty of these machines, while others capture the detail of the ingenuity that went into them. While they were certainly dated as pieces of tech even at the time that Titanic was being built - they were being superceded by the Turbine - they were still hugely impressive machines. I hope these images capture some of that and it's likely this won't be the only video of this type I'll be doing.

    Wonderful! Just one thing is missing ti make it perfect. On the reverse lever on the Browns engine cilinder where brass sings with orders stamped out. For example "PORT" on top of the port Lever, "AHEAD" "ASTERN" at the lower end of the lever where the handle will rest for the ordered maneuvers. They are still visible on the remains of the Browns engines at the wrecksite and documented via Video here on TH-cam! No one ever knew of the existence of these sings before

    What is the inclined valve/rod assembly in the middle of the view at 1:12?
    Thank you in advance...

    One of the Titanic engines was a turbine I believe.

    Amazing pictures! Can you guide me to your source for the thrust blocks? I want to model them for my 3D-printed Model of the Titanic engine (1:37) so I can attach the prop.

    Absolutely amazing work. Love all your videos.
    I assume the turbine isn't as interesting to look at as the engines, purely from a physical sense? As with the engines you see the huge pistons turning the crankshaft, whereas I'm assuming the turbine is fully enclosed so you'd just see a stationary block with the turning shaft coming out?
    Reciprocating engines were an absolute sight to behold. Especially these behemoths!

      I think the turbine could be a pretty cool looking project, but you're right...you wouldn't get the see a lot happening.

    Do you do any commissions? Looking for a specific shot/angle for a tracing I want to paint on the wall in my home office.

    Now this causes confusion . The various photos from the wreck site that I have seen show the engines at the point where the ship broke , always depicting them to be in the stern section ; yet the photos always show them with those two large pipes which bend downwards pointing out - towards the front of the ship , and of course the propellors are still there in the stern section , so presumably complete with the shaft support assembly behind them ( and the Parsons turbine ) within the stern section .
    So why do the underwater photos show these two big pipes pointing out forwards ?

    • @titaniccor6502
      @titaniccor6502  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Derek, I think the pipes you're talking about are in fact the Weigh-bars which link the Valve Gears to the Reversing Engines. If you look at the video from approximately 1min 21 seconds in, you can see - at the lower part of the image - the exact section of the Weigh-Bar that is now bent downwards on each engine. Dangling from the end of each of these bars - visible in the wreck images - is the last Link-Arm which normally would have attached to the Valve Gear via a connected set of slide-arms. The massive pipes visible above at the upper portion of the image - the exhaust flumes for the Low-Pressure Cylinders, which took the steam from the Reciprocating Engines aft through the Main Engine-Room bulkhead into the Parsons Low-Pressure Turbine in the next compartment - are gone, presumably when the forward Low Pressure Cylinders were broken off during the break-up of the hull.

      @@titaniccor6502 Wow, I always thought the engines looked odd, but until today I never noticed that the front LP cylinder was missing and that all the photos of the wreck engine actually show the high pressure cylinder! Thank you for your work.

      she did they were powered by smaller engines probably

    • @MVideos2010
      @MVideos2010 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i'm pretty sure what we see are the two piston engines that power the two side props. the large center prop, im pretty sure, was powered by a relatively low pressure turbine engine.

    You model all these parts which presumably took hundreds of hours yet you don't make any kind of video showing what each part does and how it works. Really your channel is a huge disappointment.

      He is a 3D-designer (and it has to be sad - an amazingly good one), not an engineer. If you want to know how it works, you can find other videos from other channels on it. I personally learned a lot from building a 3D-printed model and you can find that on TH-cam too.
