    *EDIT 6/28/21:* This video just broke 300k views and we cannot thank all of you enough! We never had any idea this video would gain so much traction and we appreciate all of you who have watched and commented immensely. I wanted to take a second and clear the air on a couple of things however, particularly the audio which looks (and sounds) like the elephant in the room:
    As happy as we are over the success this video has attained we are still kicking ourselves months later over the music volume, this is literally the only video on our channel with this issue. We quadruple check each video before we post it now to make sure this never happens again. We also made the decision to put the music at an even lower volume than we did in our earlier videos (despite it not being as distracting as it is in this one) because we felt it was better for the overall viewing experience. If you watch any of our older videos and compare them to our newer ones this is probably noticeable immediately, but again, we think it was a positive change and overall this experience definitely made us better content creators so we are thankful for that.
    I also feel it is important to address some of the accusations we have gotten and why we haven't reposted the video with corrected audio yet. For starters I have seen some people say that our mistake shows we didn't care about the video and only posted it for a quick cash grab or something, this is laughably far from reality. When we posted this video we had barely over 100 subscribers, so making money off of it wasn't even something in our minds at the time. We put a lot of work into our videos, and while this mistake was an embarrassing oversight, I emphatically push back on the notion that we didn't care. We cared a lot, we just screwed up.
    "Why don't you just fix the audio and repost it?" This is a great question and I hate to pull the common TH-camr excuse of blaming the platform but essentially it's because of how TH-cam works. The algorithm shined its light onto this video and as a result we have gained thousands of subscribers, views, and hours of watch time from it. To this day this video accounts for over 90% of the new subs, views, and watch time our channel gets. If I unlist the video and post a new version with corrected audio I'm rolling the dice that the algorithm shows the new video the same amount of love and odds are it wont. That would basically mean I'm destroying the video that is driving most of the traffic to our channel just for the sake of turning the music down, and frankly that's not a sacrifice I'm willing to make. I'm sorry if that sounds cowardly, but for a small channel trying to grow a video this successful is too valuable to lose. If the general consensus was the video is completely unwatchable and the reaction was overwhelmingly negative I would do this, but most viewers seem to think it is a flawed but good video. I know for some people the music makes it unwatchable and I am profoundly sorry for that, as much as we've gotten beat up in the comments over it I can assure you we have beaten ourselves up even more. I hope you will be willing to give some of our other work a chance despite any disdain you may have for this video, but I'm not naïve enough to not realize there are some of you who won't. So again, I am sorry.
    "Will you ever post a fixed version?" As I said above, AT THE MOMENT this video is too important to our channel to do that, but that doesn't mean we'd rule it out in the future. If/When a day comes that we aren't so reliant on this one video as a source of traffic we certainly wouldn't mind posting a corrected version of it. Again, I know some of you will view this as a cowardly excuse, but when you're trying to a grow a channel this is just the sort of things you have to think about. Hopefully there comes a day where this video isn't doing all the heavy lifting for our channel and we can do that. Overall this video has done amazingly well for us so I don't mean to sound whiney, ungrateful, or like I'm making excuses. We couldn't be more thrilled with the amount of traffic this has brought us, and aside from one glaring mistake we think it's a damn good video. We appreciate everyone who has watched it and taken the time to comment, you have made our channel better and we thank you for that =)
    *Corrections and Additional Info*
    1. I've added a list of sources for anyone who is curious, I will go back through our other videos one by one and add these as well.
    2. We are well aware some of you find the music too loud and we agree, it's not an issue in our other videos and we used the exact same settings when doing the audio as we always do so we had to look into why it happened but we think we figured it out. Of course this mistake would happen on our first video to actually get a good amount of views but that's life I suppose lol. As I'm sure you can understand with it now becoming the most successful video on our channel we're not going to take it down just to fix the audio, but your feedback HAS BEEN HEARD and we will make sure this never happens again. Thank you.
    3. It has been brought to my attention that Crane's character in Hogan's Heroes wasn't an Air Force colonel (the air force was not created until after WW2), but was a part of the US Army Air Forces which was technically a different entity. Sorry about that.

    It always amazes me that videos and books into Crane's murder fail to mention that Bob wasn't exactly a stickler about age when he had his sexual encounters. In today's age, Crane would've almost certainly been accused of statutory rape. And if you think of it that way, it's not hard to imagine that some angry father of a teenaged girl Crane seduced and took pictures of, ended up killing him over it.

      The "jealous" party could have been a female who was jilted that evening, or at least recently. She certainly would have had the opportunity if he was asleep. Or she could have tricked him into allowing her to tie him up with a promise something kinky would ensue, then bludgeon him with the tripod. Then again, circumstances do point to Carpenter.

    FYI: At 10:30, the narrator states that "By Saturday morning, Bob Crane had not shown for work..." June 29, 1978 was a Thursday--not a Saturday. Bob Crane was murdered in the pre-dawn hours of that Thursday. One of his "Beginner's Luck" co-stars--Victoria Berry--went to his apartment that afternoon of the same day after he failed to show up for a scheduled lunch meeting. She found his body.

    I’ve heard that Bob was in therapy for his sex addiction. He was trying to get control of it because Sigrid was not allowing their son who was a child at the time to spend time with his father because of the sex addiction. I believe it was causing friction with his older kids as well so he was seeking treatment. One of the things an addict who is in rehab has to do is to cut off contact with people who enabled the addiction or participated in it also. Also the addict has to stay away from places and situations that could cause a relapse. So Bob was breaking it off with John Carpenter and John wasn’t happy about it. John knew that without Bob’s good looks and celebrity he (John) would have a harder time attracting women. So I think John was the killer because he was angry about not being able to ride on Bob’s coattails anymore once Bob ended the friendship.

    • @frankfacts6207
      @frankfacts6207 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's not much motive - your friend tells you to stop expecting him to get you girls and you kill him? Really?

    • @cmm2145
      @cmm2145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@frankfacts6207 - It doesn’t sound like much of a motive to most people. For most people it wouldn’t be a motive. But there are some additional circumstances here in this particular case that could create a motive where normally there wouldn’t be one.
      1. John Carpenter worked selling video equipment. That’s how he and Bob Crane met. Bob was buying his video equipment, tapes, etc. from John. As often as Bob was recording he probably needed to buy way more tapes than the average person. Also video taping was a new technology back then. The equipment was expensive. Not like now. If John was getting any commission or brownie points of any kind in addition to his base pay from his employer as incentive or compensation for how much he sold, then Bob Crane getting his sex addiction under control would mean that he wouldn’t be buying as much video equipment and that could have negatively affected John’s income and/or his status with his employer.
      2. John Carpenter could’ve gone out catting around without Bob, but John was neither famous nor good looking. By himself he wouldn’t have been able to attract the type of woman that Bob could attract.
      3. Bob and John were not just buddies who picked up girls together, they were BFFs. Bob cutting it off with him could’ve upset John on that level
      4. Supposedly, John was bisexual. Maybe he was interested in being more than friends or friends with benefits with Bob and Bob said no. That could have instigated a crime of passion.
      5. Bob and John weren’t just ladies men. They were sex addicts. If you’re an addict and your buddy who helps provide you with your fix tells you he’s not going to continue doing that, you could get angry enough or desperate enough to kill him.
      To me # 5 is the biggest factor - Bob wasn’t going to be facilitating John’s addiction anymore. Addicts generally don’t take kindly to people who refuse to facilitate their addiction.
      Let’s say they’re meth addicts instead of sex addicts. One of them has access to a supply of high quality meth. The other doesn’t and the other doesn’t know anyone else who does have access to high quality meth. When the one who has access to the high quality meth goes to rehab, gets clean, and doesn’t have anything to do with meth anymore, that cuts off the other guy’s access to the high quality meth. The other guy, who doesn’t want to quit using meth can still get and use, but he will have to settle for lower quality. That very well could be a motive for murder.
      I don’t know for sure who killed Bob Crane. John Carpenter was brought to trial twice and was never convicted. I still suspect that he was the murderer, but I could be wrong.
      Whoever it was was angry. I’ve seen color photos of the crime scene. I wish I hadn’t. It was very bloody and gruesome.
      There are much easier ways to kill a sleeping man than standing over him on the bed and repeatedly swinging a camera tripod to beat him in the head until he dies. Because of the obvious passion involved, I guess it could’ve been the husband or boyfriend of one of the women Bob had sex with. But it still could’ve been John Carpenter. He could’ve been angry enough.
      The fact is that the Scottsdale Police did not do a good job with the investigation. It’s just going to go down as unsolved.

    • @cmm2145
      @cmm2145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@juststeve7665 - I know it was there. There could be more than 1 explanation. 1. Auto-erotic asphyxia. Instead of being asleep, he could’ve been unconscious. I think this theory is unlikely. 2. The killer could’ve strangled him with it long enough to make him unconscious so that he wouldn’t scream or try to fight off the attacker. 3. The killer could’ve intended to use the cord to kill by strangulation and found some kind of difficulty with that, so decided to bludgeon Bob over the head with a camera tripod.
      I’m pretty sure that the only one who knows why the electrical cord was wrapped around Bob’s neck is the killer.

The elevator doors opened, and out came a cameraman, walking backwards, followed by Bob Crane, flanked by two beautiful women. I believe that Crane had his arms around the womens' shoulders. The procession, the backwards- walking cameraman who was filming, Crane and the two women, proceeded from the elevator to the store lobby, and then out the front doors of the store. All of the store employees began to chatter and gossip.

      Just remember that “sex addiction“ is still a hotly contested issue. Psychologists do not recognize this has a real addiction or mental health issue. There is a real tendency to demonize people who have high sex drives by just automatically calling it an addiction. The secondary issue is that I a lot of this took place in the 60s and early 70s during the sexual revolution. This was the first time that people were beginning to experiment with sex and sexuality in a more open way and there were plenty of more conservative people who were not happy with that. I’m just saying that context is important to understanding the issue.

    The murder took place about 25 yards away from where I was sleeping that night in another building in the Winfield Apartment complex on Chaparral Road in Scottsdale, AZ. The next morning on my way to the pool, as the police were cordoning off the crime scene, they spotted me and wanted to know who I was and what I was doing there. That was pretty scary, as I had no idea what was going on. I did happen to notice Crane's scantily clad co-star milling around with the police.
    As I found out Crane's apartment was leased by the Windmill Comedy Club for use by their featured guest star. That made sense, because a couple of months before I found myself floating around in the complex' swimming pool with the Joker himself, Caesar Romero, who was the the featured guest star at the Windmill Comedy Club at that time.

      Mr.Crane had been doing "Beginner's Luck" at the Windmill theatre (I don't know how long it was running for)--curious if you had ever seen Mr. Crane while he was there--there was also a story that his soon to be ex-wife (Patty Olson) had visited just a few days before his death--and also curious where he took his meals--were there restaurants in the area where the cast ate while in Scotsdale?

    I'm addicted to watching Hogan's Heroes. When I was a kid back in the 1970s, I couldn't stop laughing at it on TV. But now I have the full DVD collection of it, and still can't stop laughing at it. Plus TV isn't as good as it used to be either, and I watch DVDs more than anything else. But it's a terrible shame that the mystery of Bob Crane's death will never be fully solved. He should have fully locked the door of the apartment he was staying in at the time while he was sleeping. It was a shame that a movie based on the Hogan's Heroes series never got to be produced too.

    I remember when all this went down. We were nonplussed and became cynical about celebrities' clean roles on TV and in movies.
    So many of the men were divorcing their wives of 22-25 years and the mother of their children, only to marry a young actress they recently co-starred with in some movie. Shameful!

    I met Bob Crane in Akron Ohio of all places at the now defunct Derby Downs. He was there for the all American soap box derby
    championship. I was in the boy scouts and was part of the flag raising ceremony. I saw him walking around curving things out and approached. I said hey you're Bob Crane right? He was wearing a long coat, jeans, sneakers and sun glasses. He says to you are the first to recognize me. We talked for about a half hour I told him what I was doing with the flag thing and we talked about Hogan's Heroes and what he was working on currently. Then he took off his sun glasses and gave me his autograph. I think it was a year later he was murdered. In was sad for him and his family.

    Here's a case that's best left to sleep. When a murdered person has so many enemies that the police hardly know where to start, when the person has ruined the lives of scores, when the activity that led to the murder can't be properly disclosed, this is an indication that anyone actually accused would be picked from a jelly bean jar and would likely be no more guilty than the next. I always like the question: can you think of anyone who would want Mr. Crane dead? If the answers are nearly countless, it's hopeless.

I've never listened to any of his old radio shows, but if he was as good at being off the cuff and unscripted as people say, he might have made a good talk show host as well. People can, however, become good actors. I re-watched Top Gun a few weeks ago for the first time in well over a decade. Tom Cruise's acting in that role was horrendous, but, over the years, he's become a pretty good actor (or is it all a plot by Xenu?).
