Im sorry you didn't enjoy the game Matt! While i find this game to be one of my favorites, all of your criticisms of the game are 100% valid. The transition from Hack and Slash games to RPGs are definitely jarring. I also feel like you have to be more committed to modern games more so than older games, where you can just hop on in play. Nevertheless, thank you for playing the game!
I liked the game fine but story wise, it was a bit stupid and convoluted. Red Dead Redemption 2 was the best game that year. Loved it. Hope you play that one day.

I think I heard that the game was designed this way because the gamers who played the originals are now old and have families, so having Kratos be a dad means he grew up alongside the gamers.

Ever since I watched the E3 trailer in 2016, ive not been impressed. Then the game dropped and I watched gameplay. Looks like a last of us clone trying desperately to be as cinematic as possible. It wants to be seen as a movie so badly while dropping the core of what made the originals fun. Which is, fun over the top bloody fantasy. Never played the 2018 game and never intend to. I dont care how many awards it won and how people suck its d!ck. Im not playing it. I could, I have a ps5, but have no intention to do so. Bring back the hack n slash elements.
Atreus having a 180 change of heart over like 20 minutes of game is a great story? A kid going so far that he shoots an arrow into his own Father's chest? Or saying "whatever" 1,000 times? The first 10 minutes of rowing and carrying a tree? Atreus being an annoying brat for most of the game? The camera being so wonky that you can't see what is behind you (unlike, in my opinion, the better God Of War games where you could see the whole area)?

This game definitely sounds like it's not for you (I haven't played it either since I'm more Xbox than PlayStation). Mostly because there is a lot of praise for the "boy" stuff. Even at The Video Game Awards and when the actor won the award for Best Actor, EVERYONE wanted him to badly say "boy" during his acceptance speech. Then when he did, everyone went crazy. Even the live chat I had in the stream I was watching was going crazy when he said it. Lots of "OMG, he said it!!! HE SAID IT!!! I can die happy now!!!" Lots of people do the "boy" thing too. Then when the next game was getting ready to release, everyone wanted more of the "boy" stuff. They said the game would be terrible if there was no "boy" stuff. Me, I don't get it. But I haven't played the game either, but everyone loves it. I also think there is tons of "boy" compilation videos out there and memes and other stuff. But yeah. From just the praise for the "boy" stuff alone, it's definitely not for you. Knowing me, I'd probably be neutral on it if I played the game.
Have you played the Dead Space games? Those are fun. Dead Space 2 for Xbox 360 is awesome and backwards compatible on Xbox One and my third favorite game of all time
I miss the old Kratos from the original trilogy when he was an enraged brutal anti hero. Kratos being a full on good guy in the 2018 game and Ragnarok doesn’t suit him! It’s completely out of character for him!
Both these god of wars are absolutely outstanding and I platinumed Ragnarok which was an absolute feat. I've been a die hard fan since the start. Way better than Spiderman. Sorry you didn't enjoy it

I never played these games but I’ve seen gameplays and cutscenes on YT.
They’re all fun to watch, God of War 3 is my favorite of them.

God of war 1 and 2 are the only games i ever played during my teens and loved them! Never played any of these newer ones and don't intend on doing.

played GoW 1-3 loved them, i find Greek mythology much more interesting than nordic, never played the new one's, i will probalably get to them someday

I recommend Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and the Dead Space Remake. Great PS5 games
God of war rag is much better. You no longer babysit and the weapons are much fun and story is much better.
