  • Mahi-Mahi is an all-inclusive Eco minded surf resort in front of Simeulue’s most consistent wave, The Peak. A rustic place like Bali must have been 30 years ago, Simeulue offers not only uncrowded wave perfection, but hiking, swimming, spear fishing, snorkeling, and other untouched natural gems for all kinds of enthusiasts.
With over 10 surf options nearby, consult our Western surf guide or licensed boat captain to decide where to surf. Journey on your own by motorbike, hopeful to find a new secret, hop in the car with the surf guide, book a boat trip with the captain, or simply surf out front - there is no wrong choice.
A distinguishing aspect of Mahi Mahi is our 42ft. live aboard boat, capable of reaching more world class waves in the Banyak islands in 3-5 hours. Focusing on small groups, and short time frames targeting the best swell windows, we can quickly get you from spot to spot, maximizing your surf time in uncrowded places, depending on favorable tides and wind.
Offering single and double occupancy bungalows constructed from up-cycled materials, re-incorporating traditional antique structures, guests can relax in comfort and style, knowing we have taken every precaution to minimize our ecological impact. Adjoined to a living space is a veranda to relax and check the surf at anytime.
A blend of local and western styled meals are enjoyed under a large traditional teakwood “Joglo.” Also serving as a communal area for guests, the “Joglo” offers comfortable sofas for relaxing, tables and bar-tops for eating, and books, boardgames, and a projector for guest’s enjoyment.
Lastlly, Mahi-Mahi is a for-profit enterprise that supports sustainable community and environment initiatives in the Simeulue and Banyak landscapes. Two sea turtle species that nest on Bangkaru Island are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species:
    - Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas ): endangered
    - Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea ): critically endangered
Although all sea turtle species are protected through legislation in Indonesia, poaching and trading of turtle eggs represents a major threat to sea turtle populations. Haka (www.haka.or.id) is an existing conservation program on Bangkaru Island that provides regular beach patrols to prevent poaching and illegal trading. However, Haka struggles to secure annual funding. Mahi-Mahi is helping to plug this gap. Through profit contributions from our resort, and green bonds, Mahi-Mahi is supporting the Aceh based organization with funding for its turtle conservation program, meant to cover the minimum to maintain the ranger patrols.
Guests help support our cause by staying with us, and are welcomed to participate further by visiting the Banyaks, or speaking with our staff conservationist. We are passionate about the environment and what we do, and hope to enrich, preserve, and share the treasure we have found in Northern Sumatra.
