Halo CE is also the only game in the series where a second, third, or fourth player can ride on the sides of the Scorpion in the same way as the marines.
I like how later games opened up more options in vehicles eg: giving marines the ability to drive, making the Wrath drivable, boarding vehicles, being able to give passengers other weapons to make stuff like Rocket Hog adding more vehicles etc
i admire how much effort you put into these video and the pure passion you have for the game series. I think it is amazing that as gamers we have these videos from youtuber users such as yourself to aid us in completing the games we love. Thank you for all you've done.
Well, I definitely didn't expect to walk away from this series with so much new information! I've beaten Combat Evolved on Legendary a handful of times, but generally I've just compensated for what I lacked in tactics with vigorous grinding :D Same went for most of the games until I was a bit older and forbearing though. Really well done, well explained and for me most importantly, well demonstrated :)
@Bungie's blue flames: & I'M guessing you forgot that moment in season 1 when Sarge was telling them why the warthog was called a warthog then, say, a puma.
I needed this guide to play this game on normal. If that doesn’t show how horrible the tutuorial is in this game, i don’t know what does. Thank you, Hokiebird, for helping me get into this series.
"Marines cannot drive vehicles in Halo CE, so you have to drive and let the Marines man the turret." I remember one time I got off my Warthog to activate a terminal in Halo Reach, and as I was walking across the field, KAT RAN ME OVER WITH THE WARTHOG!!! From that point on I've driven every warthog. Never trust the AI.
McCarney 420 true, I was doing a heroic run on halo 2 and I was stuck at the part at the first wraith in metropolis. I finally got past the ghosts and the wraith and I got ran over by a warthog being driven by a marine
I dont trust AI either. Especially since that time in Halo 3 when marine driver tried to evade enemy wraith and he rode warthog off the cliff killing me ( I was gunner ). I still remember this to this day. Never trust AI!!! :)
Perhaps you should do a follow up video or series that expands on Halo tactics, vehicles, and weaponry as this guide only covers Halo: CE. Energy Swords and Gravity Hammers weren't in Halo: CE and I bet you have some valuable insight into their usage. Great series. You are the best youtuber in terms of legendary guides.
Keep up the good work Hokiebird. You're one of the best. TH-camrs like you who actually provide professional and helpful commentary are few and far between.
Halo 2 was my fave game. Yes, it was broken on Legendary but every other difficulty was heaps of fun and I still enjoyed Legendary on it. I can still see why you hate it easily.
Halo 2 is theonly halo that i havent played but i heard from a lot of people that legendary is very difficult in that game. They described it as cheap and broken but what exactly is the case?
+MAST3R DRON3 Sorry I'm late, it is cheap, but not anymore so than CE imo. Snipers are one shot and have insane reflexes. Everything kills you in about 4 hits and checkpoints sometimes don't show up and have annoying placements. There's also a few points with badly place infinitely respawning enemies, Metropolis (third mission) takes the cake for the worst case of infinite respawning enemies in which there's a big open area with snipers that spawn as soon as the other one dies. Very frustrating. You can get the hang of it though and learn the games tricks. There's also a lot of tricks for skipping bits but let's not talk about it here or Hokiebird/Halo God will strike us with his godly lightning. Halo 2's my fave because of its gameplay, story and missions. Definitely play it.
These are my favorite videos!! I'm looking forward to your Hokie's School of Halo for the other titles. I really appreciate how much time and effort you put into these videos even though they don't make you much money if any at all.
Much sooner. Like I've said before, I have every playthrough of each mission that I want to use already recorded in the theater. All I have to do is edit out deaths (which I'm finding out is VERY easy to do for Halo 3), and add the commentary. I made a 43 page written walkthrough of the game a while back, so adding in the commentary is also very easy since I know EXACTLY what I'm doing at all times. I just have bone to pick with a certain partnership offer that I'm thinking of accepting. :D
Thanks for your tip about watching this series since I'm new to Halo. Wow, so much helpful information. It will certainly help me when I start playing Halo 3.
You can actually splatter hunters with the ghost on ce, but not other enemies from what I've noticed that's what I do to kill the hunter on two betrayals near the 2 banshee's.
I'd love to do a series just like this one for Halo 2,3, and Reach, but as you can see from most of these comments, the Halo 3 Legendary Walkthrough is in very high demand, so that's next. I may still do HSoH Series for those games, but only after the Halo 3 walkthrough is finished.
Real shame these videos don't exist for the other games in the series. These are really helpful and don't require a massive time investment like with a full walk through.
hoping your banshee vs banshee tactics are in your Legendary guide. enjoyed this collection of tips. even though i've finished the game a few times (on normal) i learned a few things. thanks :-)
Glad to hear it! For the most part, Banshee vs Banshee combat is so simple I didn't think it was worth mentioning. I've never been killed in a dogfight. At least, not by the other Banshee. The Grunts with Fuel Rod Guns on the ground however...
We're never getting one for Halo 5. As for Halo 4, if it's happening, it's not happening in the foreseeable future, since we're only halfway into Halo 2 presently.
Not sure if it was a glitch, but it was something that was a very common when attempting to do a SLASO run in Halo 3. You'd make "pet" Jackals, and they were an easy way to get your shield back after you clear the rest of the area since they couldn't attack you at all
This only helps so much as to what you mentioned. You forgot to mention Sentinels and Sentinel Beams as I've died on The Maw by getting overwhelmed even if I took cover. But this has helped me gather strategic advantages on the fly so I can wing it.
I know, I suck at Halo. Can't even get through Legendary without Bandana. But, sometimes they can be an issue, like in The Maw, when there's flood surrounding you if you get overwhelmed and the sentinels target you as your being attacked. Very shitty and cheap if you ask me.
Wanna add that shotguns are good against Banshees if they do get close. 2-3 shots on Normal, and I destroyed most Banshees with them, at least in Two Betrayals. Not sure how it is in Legendary though. Gonna use your guides to beat the Halo series in Legendary someday.
Even though I knew all this it was still entertaining. The only criticism I have is that you should have went over the Shade Turret and Covenant Dropship (Spirit), such as talking about how the dropship does not fire unless you fire first. The turret and dropship do not have much strategy to talk about though, so great job!
I think there is a glitch in the ark in one the fields where if a Jackal charges his plasma pistol, and holds that carge he'll completely burn through the battery's energy. No longer any ammo for his plasma pistol,he'll just sit there, not attacking you.
just a side note that the area where the ghost can do a wheelie up the little ridge to the final battle in the mission two betrayals, i actually didn't know about the ghosts ability to do that, and i still got the ghost up there no problem, though the wheelie method is significantly more convenient
awesome! it'd be very interesting if you would make more of these for the other games, however, with all of the new additions in the later games it might be a bit too time consuming and repetitive.
Hokie, you did not talk about one of the most key aspects of the vehiclular mechanics in halo combat evolved which is "Vehicle Bumping" is when you press the action button, i.e. the button to get on your vehicle you are temporarily invincible to all vehicle physics in the game because otherwise you would have instantly died as you pressed the action button. This mechanics is only implemented by bungie in halo ce but they completely changed it since halo 2 cam out. This is highly useful for taking advantages when vehicles are invincible to all explosives. You can throw a couple plasmas and a frag and jump over the vehicle and press the action button at a very precise time this will send you flying of the map and is very useful in the mission T&R, AOTCR, TB, SC, Halo and the Maw.
This series (and all of my videos) are intended for beginners looking to start playing the game on Legendary difficulty. It does not cover, and is not meant to cover, advanced/difficult maneuvers that require precise timing or quick aim, glitches, skips, or exploits. It's one thing to point out an advanced tactic to those who might be interested, but don't tell me I "forgot" to include the information.
@@Hokiebird428 I get it these are just mean't for people that are just starting to play the game on legendary and btw, I was just pointing out not complaining about the video. I loved your guides too and they helped me get through halo CE, 2 and Reach on legendary and guides of also RC master and nak3d eli helped me beat reach on LASO.
i hated vehicles in ce. if you drive a warthog for instance, the vehicle becomes the hitbox for master chief. anything hitting, say the wheel, hurts the chief. in the second level where you need to turn on the hardlight bridge, i like to sit in the turret to kill the enemies. when full charged plasma comes flying, if youre in the turret, youll take the full brunt unless you get out before it reaches the front of the thing.
Im not trying to be a smart ass when I say this but you can actually splatter hunters with the ghost by hitting them with back end of the ghost. However their are only 2 times you can do this so it really is not worth mentioning.
Although not really worth attempting, I think the Ghost can splatter enemies; I may be wrong, since I mostly play on Heroic or Legendary, and it's too dangerous to keep trying to splatter them. (Edit: I believe it may only be possible with Hunters)
You can snipe an elite with a sniper rifle getting on wraiths although you can mainly do it when getting out of the control tower on Mission 8 although it's totally unnecessary, but it all really depends if you can hit the elite or not. It's way easier not to deal with a wraith.
Much more. Halo 4 may not be fun, but it's not the insta-death slaughterfest that Halo 2 was. Sure, there is a lot of cheap bullshit, but it's not nearly as bad as Halo 2.
I think that the Grunts and Jackals all (or at least most of them) charge up the Plasma Pistol as soon as they see you, and then can hold it infinitely. I also can't tell one color of Elite from another. They all look the same except for the Gold ones. Not to mention the Hunters and the fact that their melee attack is as spastic and undodgeable as ever. And don't even get me started with Banshees. Mother. Fucking. Banshees. Poor character design, and poor enemy A.I. all around.
You're wrong about wraiths being immune to small arms fire. I killed a wraith last week using small arms after I ran out of grenades, and it died via assault rifle
Crawlers are not that bad but they come in large swarm similar to the grunts or drones but they're still easy to kill as long as you have those headshot weapons like pistol, BR, DMR, carbine, or light rifle, but the knights are the main problem in halo 4 and even 5 cause they're killing machines and highly resilient and annoying than the covenant.

6 plasma grenade sticks to kill a wraith on legendary. Fun thing to do while in Assault on the Control Room, the last part in the pyramid.

The Maw
Wanted to ask you this actually. Does your methods on this one also apply to the AI in Master Chief Collection in CE? The AI seem smarter in that one.
AI are identical. All tactics discussed here will apply to the MCC except in a few select cases (and this isn’t one of them.)
The plasma pistol consumes 1% of battery for every 5 shots not 2.
God damn it, I can't even finish the video or make it HD, the damn speed options get in the way.
Hokie may have answered that already.
Didn't you say that a shotgun can 2 hit banshees?
The shade wasn't even a vehicle. It was a weapon that you have to enter. I wouldn't classify it as a vehicle since it doesn't move or have an engine.
and for some reason in every game it is listed as a vehicle in forge.
+MAST3R DRON3 Yeah, interestingly
