    For a people that are said to dress plain, this dress seems pretty complex... I would have actually have thought something simpler would have been better suited to the simple life style?
    I also wonder how hard it is to work in this outfit? And what about nursing mothers? There’s no way a mother could nurse a baby in this could they?

    • @mejustme479
      @mejustme479 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yes, I agree. I thought the dress simply was sewn, as a slip on, no zippers or elastic, I knew it all tied.. but tge safety pins ??? WOW, I need to buy stock! Lol I do admit I admire her. Quite a lot, now especially. 👍💟

      I don’t mean to be disrespectful but if you can’t use/wear elastic, what holds your underpants up? And what is reason for the cuffs etc not being wider than 5/8th’s of an inch?

    • @madmudslinger
      @madmudslinger 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Vicki1930 I think she said they're not allowed to wear underpants. As for the precise measurements etc, it sounds very fundamentalist, culty, controlling - much like sharia law.

That is a lot of Safety Pins, it takes me ages to close one of those and you do it so quickly and without looking, but I suppose you have used them for so long... I would do myself an injury if I had a straight pin that close to my neck, I can't even use them to turn up a hem, without stabbing myself...

      The legend is that once there was a young maiden named Tilly, she was a bakers daughter and the fairest of all the women in her village. After her 15th year an middle aged man named John Peter came to the tiny village in search of a new life. John was weary and hungry from his travels, so he stopped in at the local bakery to purchase some bread. When John entered the bakery he noticed the fair Tilly churning butter, and decided then that she must be his. John offered Tillys father Three gold coins, a flock of sheep and a pig for Tillys hand in marriage. Tillys father agreed, and They were married in a fortnite. John was a kind and honest husband, he worked hard and he generously gave his patience and knowledge of life to Young Tilly. The summer Tilly turned 17 was the same summer that a fleet of soldiers came to the small village to colonize the near by natives. The young Tilly was a sight for
      The love starved and home sick men. John grew impatient and jealous over all the attention that Tilly received from the soldiers, and decided to punish Tilly for flaunting her beauty. That night John snuck into Tillys wardrobe and replaces all her clothes with plain material, removed her hair brush and put her Sunday shoes into the trash. John demanded that Tilly keep her long flowing crimson hair up in a tight bun, and covered so no man should ever cast their lustful eyes on her again.
      Tilly spent the rest of her days covered, hungry for attention and love.

    In the time it takes you to dress, I could shower, dress, cook breakfast, wash the dishes and walk the dog. Oh, and bake a cake.

    I believe in dressing appropriately and modestly but I don't understand how that translates into the strict rules about how thick a ribbon or hem can be. I like the idea of simple living but some of the rules about modern conveniences seem to be nitpicky like they can't have a phone in the house but it is ok on a pole outside the house. It also bothers me that they will turn their back on family and friends over the smallest transgression just because the church elders say to. I think that they have taken a lot of good principals to the extreme and made their religion just about rules and not about the core message of the Bible.

      The rules are laid out in the Amish Ordnung that they follow. The measurements are found there.

    Why are you allowed to use hairpins & safety pins when those are modern inventions/conveniences? Are seeing machines and ready made thread allowed?

    What's wrong with elastic and bobby pins? Why does all the measurements on your clothing have to be so precise? I would feel like I was strangling with that shoe string around my neck.

    This whole dressing with pins does not seem to agree with the bobby pins issue.....I cannot
    understand the reasoning behind the complicated dress...........
