Thank you for posting this video and your hair video. I am fascinated by Amish culture. Despite what some of the other comments say here, you are a beautiful culture and a lovely lady yourself. What is the difference from Swartzentruber or other Amish?

All because the Bible says you have to dress exactly like this or you are a sinner and will go to hell. All legalism. What did the women ever do before safety pins. Thanks for the video bring the truth out.

For women when they hit menopause age all that clothing must be a nightmare to wear with the hot flushes & sweats.. Could not imagine wearing those clothes 😱
What on earth would they have against buttons? If not buttons, then why not simple ties? Both have been around for thousands of years and would not be considered modern. Safety pins are relatively modern by comparison as they've been around less than 200 years.
I believe modesty is important for Christian women, but the rules that strict Amish make up are just ridiculous! Buttons don't make clothes immodest. (:
Buttons were originally associated with the military, which is why they don't use them. Military men also had mustaches, and altho Amish and Mennonite men have beards, they shave around their noses and lips.
Why not buttons instead of all those safety pins? This must be to teach you patience, because if you rush you’re bound to turn yourself into a pin cushion! God bless women! Thanks for sharing...

She looks so uncomfortable. Hope she doesn't pass a magnet....all those pins. BTW... where did that dress code idea come from? It's not biblical, so who dreamed it up?
The legend is that once there was a young maiden named Tilly, she was a bakers daughter and the fairest of all the women in her village. After her 15th year an middle aged man named John Peter came to the tiny village in search of a new life. John was weary and hungry from his travels, so he stopped in at the local bakery to purchase some bread. When John entered the bakery he noticed the fair Tilly churning butter, and decided then that she must be his. John offered Tillys father Three gold coins, a flock of sheep and a pig for Tillys hand in marriage. Tillys father agreed, and They were married in a fortnite. John was a kind and honest husband, he worked hard and he generously gave his patience and knowledge of life to Young Tilly. The summer Tilly turned 17 was the same summer that a fleet of soldiers came to the small village to colonize the near by natives. The young Tilly was a sight for The love starved and home sick men. John grew impatient and jealous over all the attention that Tilly received from the soldiers, and decided to punish Tilly for flaunting her beauty. That night John snuck into Tillys wardrobe and replaces all her clothes with plain material, removed her hair brush and put her Sunday shoes into the trash. John demanded that Tilly keep her long flowing crimson hair up in a tight bun, and covered so no man should ever cast their lustful eyes on her again. Tilly spent the rest of her days covered, hungry for attention and love.
Oh my, it is amazing that something so unordamental (is that a word?) can be such hard work. I get up most mornings and put on a tshirt or sweatshirt. Then, my sweatpants or jeans. .The only time I dress up, is to go out to the doctors, medical tests and such. Oh yeah, I dress up for church and that. I have not wore a true dress since forever. I understand rules and all. Everyone has a code they live by. Mine is living by the Lord's word. That is the best rule book ever. May God bless you all.
@Cheri Ann if you read Gods Word the bible, it actually states woman are to dress in womans clothing and not to adorn themselves in mans clothing. Humans have changed the meaning of the bible not God. Remember He is always the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Jewish woman wore and still wear skirts and dresses and covered their heads and men only wore the pants. To dress wearing pants of any form ( what men wore) is going against Gods word not following it. The entire bible is relevant not just the parts we feel comfortable following. Jesus is coming soon. We need to ensure were following the ENTIRETY of Gods Word.
@@KEldridge hummm, back in the "old" times, men wore tunics, robes and shawls. The peplos (heavier fabric with a built in sort of apron)was worn by women, but the chiton was worn by both genders and all ages.
@@mimiescape2023 woman never wore pants unless prostitutes. tunics is still a shirt. just look into typical Jewish dress. Following todays example is being of the world. God calls us to be Holy and so therefore all aspects of our lives matter, even the clothes we wear. Modest clothing not to outline our figures or show our bodies- that stems from the heart of wanting attention and stems from pride.
@@KEldridge Doesn't change the fact that both women and men were wearing skirts when that was written! The Bible even talks about a man's skirts. And btw, I do wear a dress.
Very interesting, thank you. Why are safety pink OK but no elastic, buttons or hook and eyes? Also, are the same layers and thickness of material worn in the summer? Germany's summers were not as stifling as continental North America's. It looks very nice when on, but a heck of a lot of work.
I believe in dressing appropriately and modestly but I don't understand how that translates into the strict rules about how thick a ribbon or hem can be. I like the idea of simple living but some of the rules about modern conveniences seem to be nitpicky like they can't have a phone in the house but it is ok on a pole outside the house. It also bothers me that they will turn their back on family and friends over the smallest transgression just because the church elders say to. I think that they have taken a lot of good principals to the extreme and made their religion just about rules and not about the core message of the Bible.
They make fabulous quilts and are good at sewing, why the use of so many safety pins. Surely a slip style dress, plain of course would be of much more usable than loads of safety pins
I believe in dressing modestly, and I even gave up make up for awhile, BUT what I dont understand is why they have to wear so many clothes. it would be great for winter and very cold weather, but heat and humidity, would be a bit much. But again I'm not understanding of why.
this is dumb and I feel sorry for them...God does want us to be modest but get real..this is so extreme and ugly looking ..she needs a hair cut to boot...
Janet Wayne I wear a burka or abaya in Arabic which means over cover oh by the way I also wear headscarf and niqab and gloves that takes me less time and yeah I also have a baby girl who wears abaya and hijab so yeah 40 minutes it takes to get out the door but yeah easy peasy reason for that is I am seriously not organized.
Wow, who came up with the design of your dresses, and all the different ways that certain parts are to be placed or worn, also the measurements of the sleeves, cuffs etc. It’s certainly not a simple garment to wear, also the way you have to put your hair up, it’s beautiful & neat but again not straight forward, it must take quite a while to get the hang of doing all the correct way.
How very useful these videos to document this lifestyle visually! Perhaps your husband could show his outfit, such as the drop-front trousers, or the lack of an undershirt + vest, as well as his Sunday hat. Are there ways or restrictions as to how to carry a bible? Who carries/reads a bible on Sunday...is it all the congregation, or only the preacher?

Modest clothing not to outline our figures or show our bodies- that stems from the heart of wanting attention and stems from pride.

Doesn't change the fact that both women and men were wearing skirts when that was written!
The Bible even talks about a man's skirts.
And btw, I do wear a dress.
They must stink of sweat in the summer, with so much on
o my, woman, just pull over a sack-like thing over and end,.
and Amish are not Grose and we are pretty because we are natural
Breanna I agree. just be plain and natural just be yourself.
I thought you don't use internet or technology honestly?
@Angie J women can be attractive with or without makeup honestly!
Very interesting, thank you. Why are safety pink OK but no elastic, buttons or hook and eyes? Also, are the same layers and thickness of material worn in the summer? Germany's summers were not as stifling as continental North America's. It looks very nice when on, but a heck of a lot of work.
jeans and a hoodie :) modest enough
Idiot
I believe in dressing appropriately and modestly but I don't understand how that translates into the strict rules about how thick a ribbon or hem can be. I like the idea of simple living but some of the rules about modern conveniences seem to be nitpicky like they can't have a phone in the house but it is ok on a pole outside the house. It also bothers me that they will turn their back on family and friends over the smallest transgression just because the church elders say to. I think that they have taken a lot of good principals to the extreme and made their religion just about rules and not about the core message of the Bible.
The rules are laid out in the Amish Ordnung that they follow. The measurements are found there.
They make fabulous quilts and are good at sewing, why the use of so many safety pins. Surely a slip style dress, plain of course would be of much more usable than loads of safety pins
I would feel itchy with all that metal on me yeuch...
God bless her, amazingly complex. Black buttons are plain.
I believe in dressing modestly, and I even gave up make up for awhile, BUT what I dont understand is why they have to wear so many clothes. it would be great for winter and very cold weather, but heat and humidity, would be a bit much. But again I'm not understanding of why.
It's worse than a burka without out the face covering!!!! Lol❣🇨🇦
this is dumb and I feel sorry for them...God does want us to be modest but get real..this is so extreme and ugly looking ..she needs a hair cut to boot...
You are adorable!!
