One of the best bands that ever did it. Their talent was INSANE! They were called SWITCH because they constantly switched up the instruments that they played for almost every song that they recorded. Bobby and Tommy DeBarge from the talented DeBarge family started their family's musical legacy right here in this group.

Switch was so smooth & that falsetto.😍 I can definitely see & hear them in their younger brother's music.. may they continue to be held in God's embrace. Their music is so soulful. Maaaan! If only we could go back! These were ARTISTS! We’re not having to look at pants hanging off their asses, tattoos all over their faces, not listening to auto tunes (music nor voices)… just raw and pure talent! And like you said @ToiToi…they actually WORKED for it back then. These folk we’re calling artists and musicians today wouldn’t last if they had to actually perform like they did back in tha day! When a group came onto a stage back then to do a live performance, everything about that was live…the voices, the instruments, E’ERYTHANG was live!!! Those were the good ole days.

I met Tommy some years ago on a flight from LA. Didn't know who he was, but listened to his story about his struggle with addiction. Wasn't til later I found out he was the bassist for Switch and one of the elder brothers of the musically famous Debarges. Nice guy and like most of us came from a good family with some imperfections that led him and his Brothers down certain paths in life that weren't all good. Nonetheless, i enjoyed our conversation. @@mariahg4561 It's torture, I can't watch it without going somewhere dark. What they went through. The Father is burning in hell. Bobby wouldn't let go until he came in the room to see him, he made it, Bunni said he repented and forgive his Dad. When it was his turn, he told all his kids don't come to his room. He hated Bobby the most for some reason, he beat, raped him everyday. How can a Parent be that evil. Still Bobby died wanting his love. It was one of the saddest stories I had ever watched. Now beloved Tommy is gone. I pray for this family, the greater the gift, the greater the demons, but if they hold to Jesus they will be alright.

I just saw Switch in concert this past weekend at Yoshi's (legendary Bay Area jazz club) and the show was amazing, and I do mean off the hook amazing....3 original members, and a few new guys, and even one of them has 20 years in.....some groups are just iconic, and this is one of them....arguably one of the best R&B acts ever, and I think it's because of the unique combo of each member being highly skilled with multiple instruments, and also having strong vocals, whether it's lead or background...Philip (Ingram) was the youngest of 4 male siblings, and he is the only one living....James, arguably the most famous Ingram, passed in 2019, and the other 2 were in 2018 & 2021, respectively.....Philip added a tribute to James, and sang a wonderful rendition of "Just Once" and tore the house down...it would have been nearly impossible to not feel the love from one brother to another.....I'm 60, and remember being in high school when they hit the scene...if any of you know the history of the Debarge family, you already know of Bobby's greatness....clearly the most talented Debarge of all, and this not debatable....El is the second most talented, and I'll stop there.....oh wait...I won't...lol Tommy (Debarge) was also part of Switch, and unfortunately, he passed also, quite a while ago, and Bobby didn't make it to his 40th birthday...well...there you are.. I know it's a lot, but I try my best to support live music, and this concert will go down in history as one of the very best I've ever seen at Yoshi's, and I've seen pretty much everybody (hardcore jazz usually, but will always support the old school R&B....current R&B is boo boo

They didn't do auto-tune as much back then
but they did a lotta doubling, it makes your voice sound richer and fuller. I learned about it in my 1st studio 🎙️ session. Dat's why they sound so good. If your voice is weak like mine they will use it. Doubling is when U sing in sync with what U already sang. They'll have U sing a verse & play ▶️ it back & then have you sing on top of that & layer it. The weaker your voice the more they'll do it. Makes your voice sound so much Betta. Most people don't notice it but if U in the business or got an 👂 you'll hear it. All of dim do it Maurice White from EWF, Marvin Gaye & especially Chaka Khan. When they did it for me made me sound 10 times Betta. Doubling takes your voice to another level. I love 💞 😌 it!
