      With McCarthy, he actually ran the most difficult and pro-style offense out of the top QBs, with many tight sets and very few free yards (think Bo Nix.) His level of experience can certainly be viewed as a red flag, but I don’t think the style of offense he ran is a negative, and on the contrary, it raises his stock compared to the other QBs who ran college offenses that aren’t very similar to what they will be asked to do when they go pro.

    I don't know why people think being a game manager is a bad thing. That's literally the position of QB.
    In the end you can have the most talented QB but if you don't have a team around them letting them ball out will only get you Dan Marino's career. A proper game manager can win super bowls with the right team around them.

      A great QB is a game manager AND a playmaker. You can win a lot of games with a game manager who can make some good throws. But you'll struggle in the postseason, because you will face top opponents and your QB will have to make some great plays to win the game.

    • @harrymills2770
      @harrymills2770 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Marino was just unfortunate in the era he played in. There were too many teams with dominant defensive front 4's and front 7's, and that's where his teams always fell short. They had very good team builds, but teams like Dallas, Washington and San Francisco were fielding teams with absolute mutants in the trenches, and there was nothing the AFC seemed able to do about it.
      I think KC had the trenches figured out on the defensive side, so they could go toe-to-toe with, for instance, the O-Line that Dallas had in the early '90s, but KC just never had a QB or decent offensive tackles during the '90s. The best of that bunch was Joe Montana, while John Alt could still play decent.
      Year after year, KC would be the team that could probably stand up to those NFC teams, but it was always defeated by teams with better quarterbacks, once Joe Cool had taken enough beatings (too many) behind that built-for-running offensive line.

    • @sequoahhicksjr
      @sequoahhicksjr หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Different scenarios though Bo Nix has heaps of experience at the collegiate level but it’s the age that’s looks like a concern due to him being 24 at the start of the season which gives less time for him develop give 2-3 years of development he’ll already be 26-27
      Maye on the other hand is 21 and has time to develop but he will penalty be going to a pretty bad team but he was only a starter for two years and that sweet spot is 3 years as a starter which is good because it gives you enough to work with and learn from but also allows for the draftee to be relatively young at 21-22 come time of the draft
      Hope that helps

    Can somebody explain to me why being 24 years old as a rookie is considered a downside? Scott mentioned that Bo Nix would be 28 or 29 when his rookie contract expires, isn't 24 -29 basically primer qb years? Why would the drafting team care about that? Is the idea that the team that drafts the player expects they can resign them after their rookie contract?

    • @johndavis9321
      @johndavis9321 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well in sports today their is this imo nonsensical premium put on youth basically the younger you can get a dude the better because the thinkin is he will have more potential and hopefully more playing years I think this mentality is dumb and ignores the experience and extra reps you get from playing longer in college

    • @ferretsmiles
      @ferretsmiles หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because that is 3 less years that he can potentially play for you. That is 3 extra years of picking up bad habits in college. When picking a qb early the hope is that they remain on your team for the better part of two decades. If two qbs carry the same grade teams will take the younger player.

    Frank Gore was seen as a injury Prone player coming out of Miami…. Look what happened there. Sometimes it’s just bad luck that creates the narrative. Maybe Penix is actually injury prone though.

    • @MarkMay-cr6bv
      @MarkMay-cr6bv หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a difference between "injury prone" and a guy who had a couple of bad injuries. Injury prone usually refers to guys who aren't solidly built, or have other issues, and are constantly suffering various injuries to different parts of the body. They just don't hold up under the pounding.
      Michael Penix had two serious knee injuries at Indiana when he was running the football a lot. At Washington he was still mobile when he had to be, but became a pocket passer first and foremost was not injured enough to miss even a game during his time there. Those were serious knee injuries to be sure, so there is a legitimate red flag with regard to them holding up over an NFL career. But Penix is definitely not "injury prone."

    I kinda feel bad for Drake Maye. He really could've benefitted by staying at least one more year to hone his incredibly high potential and jump into what'll surely be a less QB heavy draft. He's still gonna be drafted high but in the future he's definitely gonna be compared to the rest of the QB's this year and when that includes a draft packed with 5th year seniors, 5 of whom were Heisman finalists and two of whom won it, who are also all incredibly skilled in their own right then he'd better be the next Mahomes or he'll fall off the map real quick. Oh well, his choice.

Its their job to MANAGE THE GAME. They have to protect the football, run the offense, control the huddle, can’t turn it over, move the ball down field. The QB position is an extension of the head coach while he’s on the field… So YES that is EXACTLY what ANY QUARTERBACK’S job is, to mange everything and everyone on the field. What we have seen over the years is that y’all do not know what you’re talking about and you get all of these picks wrong! 3. Too loose with the ball, media wants the next Mahomes but Mahomes wasn't Mahomes until he sat behind Alex Smith and learned from one of the greatest head coaches ever for 2 years. Play style is more like Brett Favre
      4. Already paid...takes a special person to be wealthy and still remain hungry, this is the benefit of having a young player, they have something to prove. He's already a millionaire, didn't play hungry this year. See reason #2
      5. Bears are a terrible organization...He's going to a place that is notoriously hard on qb's, they just had a guy that was getting better each year, barely gave him a supporting cast and then got rid of him for the "next hot thing". Second of all, he has had games with 500 combined yards. Third and most importantly, how many games has Williams been benched before the end of the 3rd quarter because it was a blowout? I'd say a good portion. Also, there's more than just pure passing numbers. There's decision-making, accuracy, arm talent, agility, health. All of which Williams has over Penix.
