Simply put, prime Bird isn’t surpassed by anyone. Arguably, a few players have a claim to equaling his peak. The only reason he’s not the undisputed GOAT is because of longevity
2:08 - His passing was extraordinary. When the Celtics drafted Len Bias I heard their plan was to have Bias start at forward and move Bird to guard. If Bird had played guard I really believe he could have lead the league in assists.
Any team with Len Bias, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish would have been a simply unfair team... The rest could have been in crutches and they'd still be taking it home
Greatest Small Forward to EVER lace em up. This ain’t for debate. “The one thing that always bothered me when I played in the NBA was I really got irritated when they put a white guy on me," Bird said. "I still don't understand why. A white guy would come out (and) I would always ask him: 'What, do you have a problem with your coach? Did your coach do this to you?' And he'd go, 'No,' and I'd say, 'Come on, you got a white guy coming out here to guard me; you got no chance.' ... For some reason, that always bothered me when I was playing against a white guy. "As far as playing, I didn't care who guarded me -- red, yellow, black," Bird added. "I just didn't want a white guy guarding me. Because it's disrespect to my game." LARRY LEGEND!!!💯💯💯😂

It's funny how Bird was doing Step Backs and Floaters (in addition to pump fakes and catch and shoot, etc) and that really didn't get used that much in the 90s - from my memory anyway. I actually thought Ginobili was who made it popular for Shooting Guards to use those moves. PGs used Floaters sometimes. But Bird was using them in the 80s 😅 👍

What make Bird so great was that he made a lot of his passes/assists to guys playing off the ball? Bird mostly got the ball in the post or coming off a ball screen & that’s where he generated most of his assists, also how he scored too. The only time he dribbled was in transition. Never brought the ball up like a PG, no ISO dribbling behind the back under the leg crossover dribbling, basic 1 dribble drive to the back met or back down his guy in the post.
This is the greatest season of any basketball player in history. Not as many accolades as Jordan''s '87, but the eye test doesn't lie. Larry could do anything.

The tormentor of Michael Jordan. Bird gave Jordan the highest complements while at the same time whooped his ass non-stop. Pretty badass! Jordan never had a winning playoff game against Bird--not a single one. Jordan has not learned from Wilt Chamberlain that scoring 100 points every game is not better than empowering your team mates----He lacks play making ability that's why when Jordan doesn't have a super team he can't move his team past below .500. It's only when Jordan finally assembled the strongest team in his era that he started winning---They were the Golden State Warriors with Durant back in the day.
No Jordan learned how to play with a team and started to understand higher aspects of team play once the team got revamped and Phill Jackson came in. Jordan always knew how to play with a team but he sacrificed his stats to win and play in the triangle offense which as you can see gave him 6 rings.

For those who say Bird can't do against "Athletic guys", he did it against some of the most athletic players the NBA has had (Dominique, Dr. J, Pippen, Jordan, Drexler, Jerome Kersey, Worthy, Hakeem, and the list goes on)
Basketball IQ, skill and fundamentals beat Athleticism any day of the week
Larry made the game look so easy, for what he lacked in athleticism his IQ and instincts were incredible.
Magician. Controlled the flow of every game he played for years.
Been looking forward to this, thank you for your hard work man
Finally. Puts some respect on Birds name
Simply put, prime Bird isn’t surpassed by anyone. Arguably, a few players have a claim to equaling his peak. The only reason he’s not the undisputed GOAT is because of longevity
True GOAT
When I tell you I've been waiting for one particular video.... THIS IS IT MAN!
2:08 - His passing was extraordinary. When the Celtics drafted Len Bias I heard their plan was to have Bias start at forward and move Bird to guard. If Bird had played guard I really believe he could have lead the league in assists.
3:35
Any team with Len Bias, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Robert Parish would have been a simply unfair team... The rest could have been in crutches and they'd still be taking it home
Bro keep doing these, the intros to the videos, they way you pick out great seasons from great players, love GOAT SZN!!!
Amazing Larry Bird never missed a single shot from 1985-1986 🏀💰
Greatest Small Forward to EVER lace em up.
Because it's disrespect to my game."
LARRY LEGEND!!!💯💯💯😂
Never heard that quote. Gotta love his hubris lol. Thanks for sharing
@@jakeschultz1951 💯😂Welcome
Everybody do notice he was saying black ppl are superior right? RIGHT?
He seen black ppl as more of a competition because he compared both white and black basketball players and realize black players gave him more trouble. Black ppl changed mostly all sports by dominating. ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
@@chrisswag12 Hes saying black ppl are better at basketball. Larry Bird is not a black supremacist.
@@jakeschultz1951 if he’s saying black are better at basketball then that means black ppl are superior duhhh!!!
But Bird was using them in the 80s 😅
👍
In my mind Larry Bird is really the greatest basketball player.
Top 3, easy
Larry just has that it factor. If im an opposing team larry bird is one of the last guys i want to have the ball.
I am in love with this channel. YOU ARE AWESOME
The only real Goat Szn we ever needed!!!
Appreciate your work dude. On behalf of all your fans from around the world, thanks for this content.
Larry is the MAN. I love this guy. He's my hero. His playing is on another level. This bird had wings!!! Never ever be another ball player like him. They only come along once in a life time. I'm 75 today, believe me I know.
Bird played like he was everyones big brother. Didn't look like he was really even trying and he still dominated.
I love Larry birds game he keeps it simple and to the point!
Bird was crazy! no wonder every team that time were paying attention to him.
I could see this guy play all day, loved the way he played the game
Major props to you GOAT SZN series! maybe some suggestions for future editions: C-Webb 2000/2001, Gary Payton 95/96 or 99-00, Glen Rice 1996/97, Barkley 92/93, Mitch Richmond 96/97...
Barkley’s would be pretty cool
88/89 por 92/93 for barkley
Greatest all around player of all-time, & it’s really not even close
LARRY BIRD WAS THE BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER IN NBA HISTORY.
Larry was the hardest working player on the floor. That is why he is the GOAT.
This is the greatest season of any basketball player in history. Not as many accolades as Jordan''s '87, but the eye test doesn't lie. Larry could do anything.
Dude was incredible!!
Mr Basketball. What a player. Attitude, Heart, Technique, Shooting, passing, offensive and defensive skills. Pure basketball.
Bird is underrated by some, he just as skilled and versatile as Jordan, Magic or Lebron and he so much better than KD
LMAOOOOO learn the fucking game please nigga said he better than KD 😭😭😭💀💀
@@czy3622 bro all you see is shooting with KD. He's not a better defender, rebounder or passer than Magic or Bird. He got a silky smooth shot and he wastes his size. Thats why OKC failed and he had to join the most stacked team of all time to win against a Cavs team that wouldn't make the playoffs without Lebron. KD one of the most overrated players he not top 10 or top 20.
@@kingdarkonda1460 well sakd

KD is garbage. Bird is a better passer, rebounder, defender, shooter, as good of a scorer in his prime. Better leadership and impact on his team. KD really joined the team with the best record in history for a championship. He will never get respected by the real legends.

No other player played with more heart than Larry Bird, to me I think Bird and magic where the greatest of all time.
They were up there I think, no matter how you look at it. Definitely top 5 or top 10, depending on who you are.
You're a Goat, man!!!
Hugs from Brazil!!!!
Magic Johnson next
A guilty pleasure of mine is reading comments from black folks who can't comprehend that Bird is a top 5 player all-time. I love it.
Larry Bird is simply the BEST ALL-AROUND PLAYER EVER!!! He did more to make his teammates better than anyone. I will take Larry Bird in his prime(83,84,85,86,87) over anyone even Michael. Larry Bird would easily average 35 ppg in today's NBA with no defense, you touch a guy it's a foul, and all the threes. By the way, the 80's NBA was/is the BEST era of basketball ever. There will never be another Larry Bird!!!
1.Lebron is the best all around player
2. I can easily name like 5 guys who had a better prime than Bird
3. The defense in the 80s did not look good at all. It definitely wasn’t any better than todays defense.
@@notaa6992 u r delusional
@@notaa6992LeBron is not the best all around player. LeBron is just a gigantic athletic freak. Bird was a better shooter, passer, rebounder, and did it all with about 1/10th of the athletic ability that LeBron had. Bird was smarter. LeBron’s intelligence only shines in his ability to know the right time to flop so the refs go for it.
What’s crazy to me is this Celtics announcer is still here to this day
Larry Legend = Pure Skills🏀🏆
"Magic is a great, great basketball player," Bird stated flatly. "The best I've ever seen."
His left hand might be GOAT
The *actual* “most balanced player” ever!
Dominique was fast, strong, a great leaper and defender and Larry lit him up.
One of my favorite things is watching Larry get Three defenders to elevate. Only to hit an easy shot as they all fall off the basket
Larry bird really was way ahead of his time during that period, shooting teams out with the three, coming off curles and can attack the rim while hitting contested shots like it's nothing, can pass and make plays, his competitive attitude, he would have made a jauger naught in today's nba, he just would've had to adjust to the pace of the game today which with the better conditioning skills and training that we have now he would've adjusted fine.
Imagine Nikola Jokic with superior skills
And a sweet Mullet 😂
Bird won 3 consecutive MVP awards
Jordan had just joined the league
Kareem and Johnson were in LA
Fun times!!!
Larry makes the game so fun to watch.
Imagine Jokic with Doncic's range and way better defense than both of them. That was Larry Bird. He would terrorize the league today.
Bird is the GOAT of all team sports, I say that as a former soccer pro.
Nba 2k really wasnt lying to you when the 1986 Larry Bird just starts draining shots.
That’s why he’s Larry Legend
Larry bird > Magic Johnson

Both for me in the top 5 but bird on 4
Bird is the best all around player I ever saw.

LARRY LEGEND ☘️
This is an offensive clinic. Teams and players today could lean a lot by watching these highlights.
Along with Bird being the great player that he was, what struck me about him is that he never was that fast, couldn't jump all that well, he seemed like he had fair but not great athletic skills but he still managed to have a lot of flash to his game. There will never be another player quite like him again.
