    Huge huge huge diff between a 53 to a 58. 58 is one of the most desirable grades as not only is it essentially an MS63 with a trace of hi point rub, they almost never have bad eye appeal… not to mention the Everyman registry appeal
    AU58 is almost impossible ro differentiate from MS to the casual and intermediate collector
    From a guy who spent 7 years assembling AU58 barber halves and quarters I can tell you my love of that grade is not isolated to me
    In the case of this Morgan the availability of the rare dates like the 89-CC there’s way more available in the XF40-AU 50/53 range
    Finding a nice 58 is exponentially scarcer
    Great video and great coins Ben !

      Yep, put a 58 and a 62 on a table and the 58 will look nicer. I've seen 58s that look like a 64 or 65 even except for......

    Greetings Ben, I am not a true Morgan collector but this is a nice trio of rare dates. I can see the Morgan collectors coming after these three. These are money in the bank! Best Wishes.

    Cracking a coin runs the risk of damaging the coin, so I would leave the 1889-CC in its holder. The AU53 grade looks appropriate. Look at the scratches on Liberty's cheek, nose and in the field in front of her face. Then look at the scratch in front of the Eagle's wing plus other scratches on the reverse. Granted, it's an attractive coin with mint luster, but you have to be realistic with rare coins like the 1889-CC not to overgrade them with wide price points between grades.

  • @alwaysseekingsilver
    @alwaysseekingsilver ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Some real rarities, Ben. That 89-CC is definitely a good candidate for CAC.

    ben, its the big field hairline patch behind the cap that limited the 92cc.. a common date wouldve detailed. and that rev V clash is from the back of the cap on the obv right next to the big hairline patch

    It would have been a good experiment to then send in the 1893-S in the NGC holder and see if it now crosses with PCGS.

    On the 1892 CC given a 61 from NGC...do you think that there was/is a reasonable chance (if similar or same coin) is resubmitted, that they would DETAILS the coin, saying "cleaned"? Thank you. Thumbs up!

    • @TheCoinGeek
      @TheCoinGeek  ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @charlesroof7121

    The more I see Morgan's below MS60, the more capricious seems the grading. It is almost as if the date and mint skew the final grade of the coin. Is it true that XF50 means more if the next increment is measured in thousands rather than twenty or fifty, and is therefore less likely to be graded higher by another service. Or are we not supposed to notice that?

    When I see a PCI Holder, my default is to give a shout out to Jeff at Heritage Auctions, and think about maybe slabbing Missile Command from my Atari 2600..
    Does Heritage auction PCI holders or is that taboo?

      There was a lot of old new stock that came out when some stores went under. These are specific titles that are FAR more common shrinked than they are even in the wild used.

  • @Drodgey212

    If you look at PCGS site, they show an 1889 CC Morgan graded MS-68. But that has to be a mistake, correct? The coin looks worse than rough!

  • @ericdawson845
    @ericdawson845 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, I would have gone AU cleaned on the '89CC.The '92CC as you say comes from a year with a lot of PLs. The reverse looks the original grade, the obv. not so much with some possibly suspect central areas on bust (for rub)...That's why the 61PL. The 93S looked VF35ish so 40 was a go.

    The issue with grading is too many variables and human error. Resubmit the same coin 3 times and I bet you will get there different grades pending on the graders mood that day. I do understand the "grade" mentality but at the same time despise it. It's far from consistent imo.

  • @BullionBeast
    @BullionBeast ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't care what anyone says, that 92 is minimum 62, should be 63 even 63 plus. In my opinion they grade the more rare dates much much harsher. Maybe to preserve the already graded ones, or who knows. That coin is not a 61 PL. That is higher. Lousy lousy coin graders.

  • @indivisibleman8596
    @indivisibleman8596 ปีที่แล้ว

    So, ANACs and NGC grade coins the same and the opinions that somehow NGC and PCGS are better are nonsense.

    • @thesilveraura2177
      @thesilveraura2177 ปีที่แล้ว

      ANACS has different graders and standards from their "soapbox" era slabs like the one shown here compared to present day. Most of their soapbox holders crossover for the same grade or higher. Right now those soapbox holders are becoming more collectible.
