The Sicily slip dress is a cowl neck, thing of beauty! It is well fitted to the body and sewing it was a challenge and a half but so, so worth it!
The satin slip dress was very difficult to sew, because the fabric was very slippery, but with lots of patience and slow sewing, I was able to sew the most incredible slip dress - cowl neck style!
I was inspired to sew this dress by With Wendy - Sewing a Cowl Neck dress, and also by Tint of Mint - Cowl Neck Slip Dress. Both their cowl neck dresses are incredibly beautiful.

I made this dress last year in fall and my god THAT was a project! Took 5 weekends of life to complete and I am sure I picked and resewed every single seam. I wish I had this video back then. Would have definitely made my life easier instead of having to take the ‚learn from my mistakes approach’. Discovered your channel today and love it already. Subscribed!!!

It really is a project haha!!! I found the slippery satin so intimidating to work with! If it helps, it took me some weekends and I remember putting it off for so long before finally plucking the courage to do it!
Thank you for subscribing! Hope you find my channel full of positive vibes! 🙈🙈🙌🏻

Thanks so much! Honestly I put this off for so long because I was intimidated by this project but when I started I was like ok - stay stitch, finish off the raw edges of the facings, make straps, attach straps to front, attach it to the back, and do a french seam on both sides and then a hem! That’s literally it (with a few more little mini steps like pressing and under stitching) ! You should go for it! And if and when you make it tag me on Insta I would love to see it!!!!

Hello Alexandra!🌸 I happened to be browsing through TH-cam today looking for an instruction video on how to set up and use a wifi/Bluetooth speaker! While I was searching, I came across one of your videos! What a delightful experience being totally amazed how easily your wonderful, positive and fun loving personality just pulled me in as I ended up spending the next 3 hours watching several of your videos!👏😃 Completely forgot all about the instruction video I was looking for earlier!😀💕 I was born and raised in the states, California, & currently live in the South San Francisco Bay Area! In one of your videos I watched, you mentioned the season was Fall where you lived in the UK & how early it would get dark, as well as the weather was cold/rainy! How I would LOVE to experience that here! We get SUN all the time! 😕 We get beautiful weather all the time! 😕 🙈 I'm so sick of sunshine🌞 and beautiful weather ALL THE TIME!😟 LOL🌞

I absolutely love this comment. Haha! thank you for spending three of your very precious hours on my content! I am so grateful! And hopefully
you managed to set up your wifi/bluetooth speaker. Honestly seasons have so much beauty, so I do appreciate that about living in the UK where I can experience all 4! But mostly it's one big season of rain and cold weather with a few spells of sunshine and maybe some snow here and there!

Hey lovely! First of all I wish you all the best with this project! You got this!
I did add 10 cm as I didn’t like the length I am much more a fan of the midi length than the stop at the knee length!
I am 163cm so pretty short in comparison to you, so defo add more length if you want it midi! Just make sure you’re fabric is wider than 150cm if possible! Xxx

You killed this girl!!🥰 I’m in the same situation as you at the moment (I bought the same pattern) and I’m so scared to ruin my first sewing project😭 But anyway, I have a couple of questions:
    1. did you leave the stay-stitching in the dress? (I saw a video saying stay-stitching gets removed but that didn’t sound right..)
    2. in your opinion, was this project beginner friendly? (I’ve never fully sewn anything.. though I am familiar with the sewing terms for this pattern... I think😅)
    3. did you back-stitch at the beginning and end of every seam? (forgive my ignorance but I’ve seen many videos that didn’t mention any back stitching going on in their sewing, or maybe it’s obvious that you’re supposed to do it so they don’t bother mentioning it 😆)
Thanks in advance! This video gave me confidence to make this dress and I hope to keep you updated during my process😊

    • @AlexandraBurnett
      @AlexandraBurnett  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much girl!
I think it’s so important to start with a pattern you like! This will keep you going through some depressing sewing moments! Haha!
      Here are my answers:
      1. Yes I did! I didn’t remove it as those will get swallowed up in the french seams. So don’t worry about those but definitely do the stay-stitching so your fabric doesn’t stretch!
      2. My first sewing pattern was a coat! A trench coat! So I didn’t stick to the rules of you have to start with something basic! I think you have to start with something that excises you!
Saying that, satin for me was a very slippery fabric to work with, so take it slow and don’t rush.
And if you haven’t bought your fabric yet maybe make this dress with an affordable fabric to start with and then do it with something fancy!
      3. Yes, backstitched for everything. Just make sure you don’t pull the fabric as it will stretch. Yeah it’s always something you’re supposed to do when doing a regular stitch so your stitch doesn’t come undone! But it’s ok, at the beginning I was also very very confused!
I would love to see your dress! For real! Tag me on Instagram! And all the best with your dress! Xxx
