Stunning poems and, especially The Shout, a devastating ending. You can feel the void of 20 years filling faster than the sound of that gun, and the sound of that shout echoing long after in the mind. So moving it is heart breaking.
very powerful reading. From the moment he says the title (The Shout) you know how grave this is going to be... and overwhelming both poems are. (perhaps devasting and heartbreaking are more suitable words, andrew and hopkin, I agree). I would love to see this man acting.
I love the way he pronounces 'poem' because I've got a mate from Wakefield, so not too far from Huddersfield, who says it in the same way as he does - "Poym"
Not the best poet. He's just not in the league of say, John Cooper Clarke. A lot of his poetry style relies on subtleties that are really only communicated on the stage, and even then it's a little stale. His words are locked within his own staggered verse, and his fluency is delayed as a train on rusty tracks. I do respect the loss of his friend.

I absolutely adore this man, he has such a gorgeous style and is a brilliant poet.
I love both these Poems. especially the last one.

I have pitched the quavering canvas tent of my thoughts on the rim of the dark crater

Sad and gripping. My students should learn it
Glad you like it.
jayjaypen2, I like the way his words are "locked into his staggered verse"as well as the way 'his fluency is delayed". Apologies!
🌷
saw him today at live poetry :)
Thoroughly enjoyable! I'll never think about a sperm whale the same again! 😁

no-one would be saying that if they were studying him in school... SO MANY ESSAYS.....
He fell into one of the four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire.
@jayjaypen2 John Cooper Clarke?? Everything else you say is negated following this ...
@JoeeSux Same !!

This is an impressive waste of words.
