- This video explains the meaning of the North and South Nodes in astrology which represent our life path in the birth chart. Where the North Node is the path ahead of us, the South Node is the path behind us. Also known as Rahu and Ketu in Vedic astrology, these two points have to do with the building and releasing of Karma, as well as where we can find balance in our spiritual and physical experiences.

Essentially the North node is a creative force related to extroverted manifestations, often centred on materialism while the South node is a perceptive force related to insight, heightened intuitive abilities etc. which like what the speaker said, is primarily related to spiritual enlightenment.
Does an eclipse during a harvest quarter moon in spring, 6° past south node signify enlightenment also?

Just a quick question about the distinctions and nuances between North Node and South Node and Prenatal Lunar and Solar Eclipses. For instance, in my chart the North Node is in Pisces (12th) and South Node in Virgo (6th). But my Prenatal Solar Eclipse is in Pisces and the Lunar Eclipse is in Virgo. Is this a contradiction, or do they operate in different spheres of influence? In the end, is the message to find a balance between both of them?

I've seen a few charts which have the Nodes in signs that are not opposite, I found that really interesting, because in Tropical charts that is not possible due to the number of degrees. The last one I saw was North Node in Taurus and South Node in Libra!

Hi Nadine, yes I agree. It's all about balance, in this case about the different signs that still share an opposition energy. For example Taurus is very much about self.. self-reliance, self-worth, personal security, etc. Whereas Libra other, relationship, cooperation, etc. Very important to balance and certainly unique in that expression.

Thank you Sher. In regards to the nodes.. yes it's all about balance with the nodes since they are always opposite each other. We don't want to go to any extremes with either of them. What you'll find is as you liberate yourself from the south node unhealthy yearnings it will free you up to pursue your north node (and south node for that matter) in a balanced and healthy way.
Regarding the IC.. it's short for Imum Coeli which is True North if you are in the Northern Hemisphere and True South if you are in the Southern Hemisphere. In some charts the IC is the 4th house cusp (beginning of the 4th house) and it symbolizes much of the same energy as the fourth.. more specifically the past and foundations in your life such as home, family, and health. It's what foundations you are coming from. Opposite the IC is the MC which is your legacy.. the future of what you creating and leaving behind in this life and thus us often associated with career.

Hi there, yes aspects especially conjunctions are important for reading the life path energy. Keep in mind that unless they are conjunctions with the South Node the aspects won't come through our personality as strongly as they would with a planet to planet aspect. The planets are personality indicators and the nodes themselves are more about the karmic life path for the person. But when reading the life path.. yes aspects to the nodes can reveal a lot of useful information.

Great info if you look at it like the sun north node is in opposition to moon south node. A continuous full moon aspect for the year and one half length of time before it changes again.So this is the constant raw energy between the conscious and subconscious mind. Normally one thinks up an idea and with intent passes it on to the subconscious to obtain what you want or invision. This is backwards from that point of view. You think your identity as you, the "I" you think of as you the sun. The moon the subconscious mind is the storehouse of all the things you have previously seen and done, all learning, you already unknowing have. And at this present time it boils to the surface to be precieved by the sun or conscious mind , so you can focus on it and make it part of yourself. Its all about perspective. I am an NLP master practioner and this is very similar to the NLP concept that the subconscious mind gives you the answer a split second before your conscious mind thinks it thought it up. So the NN is what is going to materialize in your life consciously and materialy.

How do you know what nodes are in the houses north or south. Is the 2nd house always the south node n 8house always the north node?
If you look at your chart you should see two horseshoe looking symbols. Both opposite each other. The n shaped horseshoe is the north node and the u shaped horseshoe is the south node. Check to see which house and sign they are in.. masteringthezodiac.com/sidereal-birth-chart-calculator/
What if your north node and south node aren’t in the “common” alignment? Ex nn aries with a sn Virgo?
look up your true north node and see if it changes!
you might also have an interception, so just stick to whole sign charts to see if it changes in that way too

+Rachel Ferdo Well the south node is always going to be a part of your life and you really have to look at the whole chart to see what's going on. If your SN is in your 12th though then there are at least some elements of it (usually unhealthy ones) that are being releasing. You'll probably notice events in your life always pushing you towards your 6th house of self-improvement, daily work, etc. This is a good place to focus imo. Of course always listen to your inner guidance first.

No not disregard.. make changes that you need to make with your south node and your Sun to bring balance and health back to those areas. There are some unhealthy perspectives you might have regarding the south node that need to be adjusted so you can have healthy aqua, sun, rising qualities. Then focusing your conscious attention on implementing some new north node qualities.

it's a little confusing since my south node falls in the same house and sign as my sun. How do you go about letting go of the very thing that defines you...? I'm assuming since the charts you provide are western based (?) and this video is a vedic interpretation that I shouldn't be applying it to my chart.. but if so then i really cant make heads or tails of it....welp, gotta spend more time learning about astrology than 12 hours!
*Edit:* Answered in the 1st house video! (these are all in 1st house) so I guess, bringing in qualities from the 7th house would help balance my inflated af Leo Ego in the 1st house, so it's not so much letting go of Leo as a whole so much as the out-of-balance leo qualities relative to the self, through cultivating healthy relationships, mutual respect, reciprocity, etc....damn these videos are so insightful, thank you so much
Im confused because my sun sign and north nodes are the same!
Ive checked 3-4 different websites and nothing lists a South Node for me....is this a thing? There is nothing on my chart that has the south node symbol.

I think my sun sign may be debilitated or something, bc of all placements that seems to have the weakest potency on my characteristics. My sun sign is scorpio..other than the sex drive cliche, I don't seem to carry too many of the other signature scorpio traits. My sun is also in 7th house so maybe that may play a part. However, I can definitely note my South Node tendencies easily: SN in Virgo

SCORPIO it's the only zodiac sign that actually has three traits or three different signs but they don't teach that in Western astrology honestly I think they got rid of that a long time ago because before the Scorpio was called the Scorpio it was actually the eagle but that was a long time ago. also Scorpio is the only zodiac that is represented/ influence by two planets . - sorry for the long message but I just had to mention this to you because my ascendant is a Scorpio and I have known plenty of scorpios to see this information is quite accurate or noticeable I should say

Richie P your South Node is always opposite your North Node , for example if your North Node is in “ Leo” your South Node will be in “Aquarius”... or if your North Node is in “Pisces” your South Node will be in “Virgo” :)

Holy crap! Retrograde isn't real, its nased on human perception. Well, for instance, if mercury is by earth in its eliptical orbit ring than it doesnt appear in retrograde, but it it is on the other side of the sun than it does. Its jist rings.

I think we may apply like/not exact methodologies - I use Vedic for meanings, Western for location +/-

The chart calculator you are using may not plot the South Node, but it's directly opposite your North Node.

No, this is a superficial view. Astrology is not as easy to understand as dry material rules down here.
