Congratulations on officially making it through winter! :D The game differentiates between fertilized eggs (which have a little heart symbol on them and will hatch if incubated) and unfertilized eggs (plain white, can't be hatched). Your people will collect unfertilized eggs for food, but will leave fertilized eggs alone, so it's fine to set an auto-supply for cooked eggs. However, if you don't want more chicks, or really need some food, you can select a fertilized egg and click the bomb button to convert it into an unfertilized egg. The straw roof is absolutely fine as long as you meticulously fireproof anything that throws sparks. Sparks cannot set the roof on fire directly, only if something on the floor or walls catch fire. The plank roof looks very nice but is breathtakingly expensive in nails.
