What is Extra Thin Cement made of? Is there an Alternative?

This Tutorial will go through what can be used instead of Extra Thin Cement and where to get it, seeing as it's hard to get a reasonably priced jar of it.

According to the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) Tamiya Extra Thin Cement is 50% Butyl Acetate & 50% Acetone.

In Indonesia, a wood glue solvent can be subtitute for modeling cement. Not sure about the substances. But it melt styrene just like tamiya cement.

I wouldnt use pure acetone, it dries out the plastic, makes it brittle and your model would slowly disintegrate.
MEK is a solid performer that won't dry out styrene.

I used my home brew quick drying glue, which worked a treat. Ohhhh MEK!!! Methyl Ethyl Ketone!!! Horrid stuff!!!

I melt sprues in 100% acetone to make liquid green stuff 😁
