    I hated Bird when I was a kid! I rooted for the 76'ers when they played the Celtics and the Lakers when they played the Celtics...then MJ when he came into the league. Looking back at the 80's now...I have so much respect for Bird and what he was able to accomplish and his attitude. He was a killer. Too bad today's players can't understand and take on that persona. The last person like that was Kobe. Bird is in my Top 5 all time and if I was going to build a team...he'd be on it.

  • @keithgupton9349

    Larry Bird doesn't get the respect that he deserves. I've always been of the opinion that, Larry Bird is just as good or better than LeBron James in every aspect of basketball with the exception of athleticism.

    • @keefriff99

    • @keithgupton9349
      @keithgupton9349 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@keefriff99 what more things is LeBron James better at than Larry Bird? Please be specific. I'll start. LeBron James isn't in any way a better shooter, free throw shooter than Larry Bird. Passer rebounder and basketball IQ, they are equal. The one thing LeBron clearly is head and shoulders better than Larry Bird is overall athleticism and defender. Fact is, if I need a clutch basket especially from 3, I'm choosing Larry Bird over LeBron James.

      @@keithgupton9349 Understandably, younger people, who never saw Bird play tend to put Lebron over Bird. Having seen both play in person it’s not even close! Clearly Lebron is the far superior athlete, that’s not even debatable, but when it comes to everything else pertaining to basketball, especially leadership, desire and clutch play, Bird wins hands down going away!

    Larry's my favorite athlete all-time I think he's a top-five playerl time of but he never maximize his potential because of hanging out with people like Ruby Roby should have been traded off that team within one year and birds should to Troy's emotions when he's in bars cuz that hurt them badly in the 85 finals the bar fight he got in you going to be measured by championships and individual complement not about bar fights and hanging out with people that are not going to give you the chance to maximize your potential

  • @jcjcviews
    @jcjcviews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    When I think of Larry Bird, I think of Stephen Curry. Neither of these guys can be confused with someone like Russell Westbrook, but they make up for the lack of speed and force with their skills and a quiet will to win. As for comparisons, take Lonzo and Jason Kidd; their respective mindsets, together with their reflexes and speed, define them as players. Lonzo's approach to the game is, therefore, much like that of Jason Kidd's. These two compare in the way of temperament, quickness, and their thought process about playing team ball, which is seamless.

      I respect your opinion, but I cannot see a comparison with Bird and Curry in anything other than they may have been the greatest deep shooters of all time. Your take on a comparison is legit in the abstract, only. In every other non-metaphysical sense they had little in common. (Yes, I did actually use “abstract” and “metaphysical” in the same sports-related post!)

    I read the book, Shaugnessy wasn't well liked by the team, especially Bird and Parish. Enough to this overblown "Covid" nonsensical talk. Was the best team in history, but he had to leave and cover the Red Sox because he was so disliked.

      I thought it was significant that though Bird "trash talked" him when he announced he was leaving, Bird was the one who did "see him off" so to speak.
      I, personally, thought it was Bird, though he didn't always like what Scoop wrote, giving him some respect for doing the job the way he believed it should be "played."
