The recent Bengal violence after elections has left many people recalling the direct action day 1946, also known as the great Calcutta killings 1946. So what was direct action day? And how did it lead to the great Calcutta killings 1946.
In 1946, British prime minister Clement Attlee sent a team of cabinet mission plan 1946 for the transfer of power to the Indian government. However, it could not lead to any conclusion as the 2 major political parties - Congress and Muslim League - could not come to any concrete result.
And an evil plan by exasperated Mohammad Ali Jinnah resulted in the bloodbath of Calcutta which is known as the great Calcutta killings 1946. Thousands of innocents were killed on the direct action day(16 August 1946).
Later on the the direct action day riots reduced, but the casualties were horrifying. To this day, it is hard to forget the horrifying incidents of the great Calcutta killings 1946(the pictures tell the story).

साल 1946 में ब्रिटिश प्राइम मिनिस्टर Clement Attlee ने कैबिनेट मिशन योजना की टीम को भारत में सत्ता सौंपने के कार्य के लिए भेजा। पर ये कैबिनेट मिशन असफल रही क्यूँकि उस समय की भारत की 2 सबसे बड़ी पार्टियाँ, कांग्रिस और मुस्लिम लीग किसी नतीजे पे नहीं पहुँची।
