I'm an old student of UNSW. I have also studied at University of Western Sydney. My main area was liberal arts and psychology. All the universities here are all pretty good and similar. Don't worry too much if you don't or can't get into these 10 universities because it's more of prestige than actual quality. In some countries having a degree from a particular university can have an effect on career prospects, but here, they're all respectable and will be good for future prospects. There's also a lot of support from counselling units, student welfare bodies, etc. Crime is relatively low compared to other countries. Pleople are relatively friendly and helpful. There is some racism but mostly, it's ok. Books are expensive so be prepared to use the library a lot. There's a lot of eateries, cafes, restaurants and almost all universities are within a half hour of beaches. I can recommend studying in Australia very much. Good luck yo everyone.
Nothwithstanding this list, UNSW used to be one of top 3 best universities in Australia and one of top 50 universities on the world, im my days, 40 years ago
Well, this will be irrelevant under the new rules unless you’re super good and get in early. Now, these top universities will have a cap, so that when they reach 80% international student enrolment of that cap, then international students will be asked to enrol at other universities, and so on until the national cap is full. This is a good move (coming from someone who is an academic and teaches at an Australian university ). Many of those so-called top universities are only top because they bank roll their campuses and research on the exorbitant fees they charge international students, and they move their numbers up at often over 50% international so they can get even more money. The new rules stop this blatant unethical behaviour and allow all universities to have an equal share of the funds that come from international students and therefore an equal chance at quality research output. This will make the comparison between universities much fairer and more balanced.
I heard that many Chinese students in UNSW only speak mandarin in classes. They said there is no need to speak English as there are full of mainland Chinese students everywhere, including their very profitable UNSW foundation program.
As a Sydney resident I cannot commend the education in schools and I have severe reservations as to the what is being taught in various faculties in Universities. Like wise the rise of the students protest movement for fashionable but extreme values, should worry any parent. Their views seem to point to students being brainwashed rather that educated to think for themselves.
You appear to have little or no understanding of a university education then. Contrary to how education is taught in schools, the whole point of universities, and getting to the point of research output, is in fact for students to think for themselves. I teach at a university and the students who score highest in the assessments I set are those who engage their brains and think critically (that is they think for themselves and ask questions of what they’re learning). Just because some students end up thinking things you disagree with doesn’t mean they’re brainwashed. They have come to a different conclusion than you exactly because they’ve chosen to think differently than you and ask different questions. I encourage you, if you haven’t done so, to ask critical questions of your own values and beliefs. Ask yourself how you know something is true and seek a wide variety of evidence for it, as well as evidence to the contrary. Put it to the test over and over and over again and subject your beliefs and values to the tests of others. That’s precisely what we teach students at university and the outcome is called thinking for themselves. Evidence that young people have questioned what they were taught as children is often in the moment they disagree with what they were taught, or at least question what they were taught. That’s what you want isn’t it, rather than the brainwashing that often happens when they’re younger?
Monash univ parkville campus which teaches only Clinical Pharmacy n Pharmacuetical sciences is the best in the 2 courses in Entire Australia n second only to Oxford university worldwide.
Australia used to be a good place to study. But not anymore. It’s becoming increasingly expensive and stressful. So we are going to India. It’s very much affordable in many ways 👍
ANU is supposedly Australia's best university but according to latest QS ranking monash and melbourne have overtaken it..and monash is only a second tier univ. Can we trust those rankings?!
Monash is the first tier university. Most of the parents prefer Monash’s 5 year undergraduate medicine program to the 7 years (undergraduate + MD) program of the Melbourne University.
One of my son get into medical school of Melbourne university. My other son get into software engineering of Macquarie University. We live in Sydney. UTS got the ugliest building in Australia. The UTS campus is the worst among top 10.
It looks like they have beautiful campuses with interesting buildings. How do they admit students? Do they have a "Holistic Approach" admissions policy like the US?
Hi, they have a UK based admissions policy. i.e. they have certain minimum entry requirements. If you qualify, you're pretty much guaranteed an offer unless you apply relatively late.
Yeah with some of these universities even if you can’t meet the ATAR requirements for direct offers you can still try doing undergraduate studies through either a bachelors degree (second year) in which your ATAR will correspond to entry. In case your ATAR is too low for even a bachelors, some universities can grant open entry for a diploma admission like Western Sydney for example but you’ll have to just study for an extra year to get to second year, so on and so fourth.

There are only a handful of universities in Australia. Only top 5 probably are meaningful. I graduated from Melbourne uni, which is good but not great.
Absolutely spot on. The top 10 are good universities but not great. The universities in Australia are facing some serious problems, notably shortage of funds, overly relying on international enrollments, and casualization of teaching staff
hello sir good morning ,,I am from Nepal ,,so I have no idea ,,,which is the best study MSW university in australia ,,,so can you help me which is the best university .....
Merci d’avance ! :)
Rankings mean nothing. They are based on variable indicies that bear no relationship to the quality of teaching or the student experience. They’re simply an artificial marketing tool.
Queensland University of Technology has just officially adopted a policy of intentional bias in student selection and deleted the word “merit” from documents. Not kidding!
I do believe the universities in top 10 are good in particular big 8. Melbourne university had the top academic score but got the worst student score in Australia. Most of the students found the teaching is the worst. But there are differences if you assess universities outside top 10 like flinders or Griffith university. Public University is all about government policy support and investments. Apparently universities like UTS and Macquarie got the momentum.

Its more popular in Indonesia compare to ANU
Monash is a top-tier Australian university. It comes under the GO8 (group of eight) universities, which are the Ivy-league of Australia
Monash is the first tier university. Most of the parents prefer Monash’s 5 year undergraduate medicine program to the 7 years (undergraduate + MD) program of the Melbourne University.
No. Most rankings are subjective. And consequently a wank.
I thought both USyd and UNSW should be ahead of Monash...
Most top university in terms of maybe on popularity or numbers of students getting in not in terms of ranking😊
