I wish i could communicate with you. Does the blackened wall and ceiling mean there was a wood burning apparatus in use? Is that mold? Is this part finished with this wall, or is it going to be made bigger? How much rock you got left to carve out? Its a great little project, lots of questions, a long ways away from Saint Louis.
I was wondering the same thing on the black. If that is Mold its best to bleach and get under control before expanding. I doubt that is from smoke, or he wouldn't have woken up. THEN again, maybe he ran a fire ALL night to keep warm for the next day. But from his other building, I trust he knows what he is doing!

Someone did light a fire in it during the time the government place a stop order on the project
I saw a episode a while back where I believe he said someone broke in and started a fire if I remember correctly

I suggest you make some anchor in the ceiling and winch these blocks of stone out
That would be a good idea, but I think he would spend more time rigging up blocks than just moving them around. He trims then to movable sizes.
