  • Join me on an unforgettable adventure as I embark on a spontaneous hike and solo camping trip in the Peak District. After a long week of work, I seized the opportunity to escape into nature and enjoy the beautiful weather. Little did I know, I was in for a magical surprise!
As I made my way up Grindsbrook Clough, the anticipation grew with the news of a possible Aurora borealis sighting. With clear skies in the forecast, I couldn't contain my excitement to witness this natural phenomenon for the first time. And nature did not disappoint!
From my perfect vantage point atop Grindslow Knoll, one of my best wild camping spots, I was treated to a mesmerizing display of the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky. The sight was truly awe-inspiring, and I felt incredibly lucky to experience such a rare spectacle. And as if that wasn't enough, the morning sunrise that followed was equally breathtaking.
Although it was a short hike, the memories and views will stay with me forever. In addition, I provide an update on why my camping adventures will be on hold for a while and share the exciting news that I'll be participating in the Highlander Hercules event in the Lake District this July. Get ready for 100km of adventure over 5 epic days!
Don't miss out on this extraordinary journey filled with stunning landscapes, unforgettable experiences, and a glimpse of the incredible Aurora borealis. Ha I was tempted to come across when the smell started wafting, smelt amazing! I don't do fancy cooking, just dehydrated stuff - mostly huel! Made the decision to just get a meal deal and some nice snacks! It was good to meet you guys too. Now get yourselves out on a 3 day trip in the lakes!

Great video. Superb view from that pitch up there. You’re right, you can be in the worst mood but you wake up with that view and it forces you to smile. What a night to be there too. The night of the Aurora. I missed it. Was fast asleep. Doh.

Thanks 😊 it was a wonderful pitch, and everything about the trip was amazing. Really a recharge for the soul. Ha sounds like many people ended up sleeping through it! Hopefully you'll get the luck to have one when you're out one day too.

Really good video, looked like a great camp. Really good that you also got to see the Northern lights, sadly I missed them!

Thanks 😊 it was great and a little bit less planned than many of my outings, and rushed getting up, which probably didn't help my sweat! Fingers crossed you'll get to see them sometime! Was just lucky it happened and was such a clear night

Well done for getting out to see the Lights. You got some great footage. I missed them- didn't even know about it until afterwards. I did a walk last weekend at the same spot but walked down Grindsbrook Clough, it was a bit of a scramble. 😄

Thank you 😊 it was pretty lucky I just had planned earlier in the week to get out, so the lights were a bonus!
It's a good little scramble patch, did enjoy the route. But fancied the easier route down!

Thanks mate, no need to apologise for not sharing! My cherry bakewells and skittles were good enough for me!
It was nice having a chat with you both and always interesting to see other peoples set up. Definitely need to be getting a chair back in the bag!

Fantastic route up Chris - I'd settle for the weight loss to be able to get up there mate. Re-the water - most upland water in pools is OK I find - filtered good for sure. Gotta say that's a far out tent - super colors. I hope your dog gets better and sounds as alive as them Curlew at 14.24. Wow what a sound as you spoke of them lads. Yeah, perfect camp with the night time visuals too. Good going - Mark

Thanks Mark. The weight loss is obviously something I am happy about, but did take me a long time to readjust my sleeping position! As for the water, I would rather go for running water but I have drunk from worse sources. The tent is a bit bright, but I do love it, roll back the two side doors and get a full 180 views, and so many storage parts including a gear loft above the feet end. Everything about this one was perfect - I think I said that many times!

@@ramblebob1 A pleasure Chris. Yeah, hats off - no wonder you're happy with the weight loss. Me too with running water but many pools I've come across are nice and clear. Hey, good to hear of the tent. A shelter we're comfortable with is important. Have a great weekend.
