Vijay is super skilful at humanising his talks, whether that’s with humour or with personal empathy. I don’t know him in real life but I hope he’s deeply empathetic and compassionate as I imagine- I’ve met too many altruistic narcissists and emotionless intellectuals who build academic careers without living their humanity.

You people are great. Writing from Australia and nearing 68 it is so refreshing to see this and learn. May you all have thousands of students to enlighten the world. May Spinoza's god keep you all safe.

Nearing 69 I heartily endorse your sentiments. Especially as a life-long student of Spinoza. Thank you. Miss Jenny (music theory teacher, Manhattan).

I agree with most people commenting here, this was amazingly refreshing we need more of this, too bad it has been seen by so few, regardless I love his attitude, message and inspiring way of inviting people to get involve and be open and respectful. I love his view on compassion.

I know Vijay is anti religion and maybe even spirituality (not sure about the latter) but his explanation of gramsci’s new intellectual is exactly how high spiritual training works...the kabbalists call life ‘the laboratory of a soul’ and in the eastern traditions like Santana dharma and Buddha dharma the theories have to be tested in the field. Having the consciousness or the ideas of an illumined life or consciousness is not enough, one has to go into the world, test these notions, and get feedback from interaction with the tribulations of the world...learn how to heal and solve them. This is essential to true mastery. The methodology of the new intellectual is the same as embodied spiritual mastery and the goal of alleviation of suffering is also the same.

You actually have to live in the world of the people who are changing it. Not in your gated community, cut off in fear of the people who want change.

Interesting point about how globalization weakened political efforts by progressive regimes in the Global South to nationalize their economies. Really makes one appreciate Trotsky's prescient arguments for worldwide revolution, and against the Stalinist thesis of "socialism in one country".

Quit either party,, join the third party or a new party or go independent of all parties. That's where you have to start.

It does make a difference to Palestinians whether the harsher Trump or the less harsh Biden is in power in the US. It may be the difference between life and death for Palestinians.
