With all the horsepower today we still don’t see games as atmospheric and oppressing as this series earlier games! Love how there’s no arrows highlighting everything to pick up u actually have to look yourself and check things, today we get our screens cluttered with information were told where, how far, what can be interacted with etc it’s all immersion breaking stuff especially in horror games, Dead Space was good for its minimalist HUD design it was mint :) looking forward to the remake I wish we were getting a new Silent Hill though!
That's what makes old games unique because just like real life there's nothing popping up to told you what to do its either you go there and try it or die.
Probably one of the best horror games of all time SH1-4 they don't make games like these anymore and it's always been the atmosphere that's creepy it makes you really feel claustrophobic in such a big open space and I feel like these games hold up really well.
I recently introduced my 11-year-old to this game, and he said to me “How does such an old game with old graphics STILL happen to be so scary??” The genius of Konami, son. THAT’S how. 😉
Something about these low poly graphics does it to me. I think it's because the graphics don't really spell things out to you, because it's just not detailed enough, therefore tapping into the fear of the unknown.
Well, in this case bad graphics can make a game more unsettling by taking away the clarity. The game revolves around the physical manifestation of a nightmare. The more bizzare it is the better.
Genius of "Team Silent", you mean. Konami actually wanted this to be a very different game to contend with the success of Resident Evil at the time. Team Silent fought for their own vision until, ultimately, they succeeded. Konami itself is no genius, just that they've been insidious since way back when.
The audio. Graphics look more outdated with each new console gen but good audio is eternal. SH1 industrial OST is like something made by John Carpenter.
this game terrified me when I was young. me,my bestfriend ,my sister and her bestfriend would get together at night and play this game. the girls took notes and me and my buddy took turns. we would switch when the stress became to much lol

Eee these young gamers, using technology back in my day we used pen and paper and was grateful for it (joke).. i am that old actually. and now i do take screen shots of certain puzzles
The booklets/instruction manuals that came with the games always had a few blank pages in the back for notes. Pure nostalgia seeing what your 10yo self wrote and drew on those pages.
I still have my original 1999 Black Label PS1 copy of this game, and still play it occasionally. Your reactions are nearly identical to how mine were the first time I played this in 1999. Many lols.
Envious of anyone experiencing this series for the first time, it's so damn cool. SH 1,2 & 4 are my personal favourites, 3 isn't bad by any stretch. This initial SH entries and Resi 1-3 represent the Golden Era of Survival Horror IMO. I love tank controls/fixed camera angles, it allows the devs to paint a beautifully macabre picture, removing control enhances the player's discomfort plus it allows for some awesome angles.
They're called a Larval Stalker. I've watched a bunch of playthroughs of this game and every single person is completely confused by them, as I was when I first played it. I was like, what are you even?! They're meant to confused the player. Deliberately hard to spot. They're harmless and will disappeare when you hit them with your flashlight beam for a few seconds. Personally I'm fascinated by them and think they are adorable 😍
The dev team were a bunch of Konami employees who were almost fired. They called themselves Team Silent and made games 1 through 4. This is such a treat to see again through younger eyes. This was one of the first games that actually gave me nightmares. Now I just speedrun it every few years or so.
yup it's dangerous to go alone take this, the timeline is 1983 so guns back then we're not an issue and most people are sane enough to use one, small towns cops can deputize any person if there is a reasonable situation.
It is such a good game that more than 20 years after playing it for the first time, I have never remembered its graphic quality; what made an impression on me was the quality of its argument, its compelling story, the fear it produced. I got to sleep with the light on because of the trauma, to feel panic to cross a dark corridor to get to my bedroom. I never felt that again with a game, maybe a little with Fatal Frame.
This Silent Hill is my favorite game ever! I'm so glad there are still people trying it out for the first time. I wish I still had my old copy on ps1, because I don't know how safe emulators are and I'm not very good at figuring how that stuff works anyway. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed watching.
If you ever play this again, the trick with the flashlight is to have it off when you enter a new room, and if you hear the radio you keep it off and walk, not run; through the room and out the other end. The monsters wont become alerted until then unless you bump into one. The little dolls with knives make a distinct sound when they see you. the little "ooohhuhhhhAHHH" noise. The clock puzzle is alluded to in the reception area, first you have to do the fist puzzle and put the sun into the tower. That advances the time to the hour the reception area says is for the music room. Thats why the piano was locked when you first entered. After you put both sun and moon into the clock you are then told to turn on the boiler in so many words.

Wow, I am A LITERAL DEMON and I still think this is hell.
Silen Hill is the clasic Psicologic Terror 👌
I like your comment, "SHE TRUSTS ME WITH THIS THING!"👍💖
The first time I played this I turned it off within 5 minutes after the first encounter. I was maybe 11 and it freaked me the fuck out.
I got all the endings of this game also the UFO ending long time ago, great 📹 by the way 👍👍
The voice actor for James sounds like Patrick Bateman lolol
Such quiet mountains
For play this game you got a new suscríber... I love silent Hill, the story, the músic, all..
Nice vídeo.
You, trying to solve the piano puzzle was funny but clever from you. I'm 24 now, I remember trying to solve this when I was 15 I literally gave up after 3 hours of trying til I had to look for a guide online 🤣
This is such a classic.
