  • Great aerial tour of New Orleans in a "Piper Archer". An unforgettable experience. Many thanks to our pilot, Troy, and the wonderful staff at "New Orleans Aerial Tours".

thanks for sharing! it is really nice to see my city from above, something so rare for me. It was so cool seeing how curvy the mississippi river really is from those shots by downtown, its amazing!

Glad you enjoyed it. If you ever get the chance, take that flight. It isn't anywhere as expensive as you might think! And it will be a "once in a lifetime" experience for you. I cannot say enough good words about "New Orleans Aerial Tours" and our pilot, Troy. They were all fantastic. When you see it from the air, it is surprising how SMALL the "Greater New Orleans" area really is! By air, you can see it ALL: the river, the French Quarter, the lake, the swamps, City Park, etc. all in half an hour! I purchased the trip as a gift for my husband and picked the one hour tour. During that hour, we were actually able to go back over certain places like the Dome and French Quarter. It's a whole new perspective when you see the rooftops, streets, etc. As you stated, you were surprised how twisty and curvy the Mississippi River is. We both love the French Quarter and the Mississippi. (He even watches the river on the live web cams.) When you see it from the air, it truly is amazing. You will remember it for the rest of your life. (If you ever decide to do it, let us know. We'd love to hear about your experience.)

I really enjoyed this video! 1:47 and 2:00 really show the CBD well!
I love areal views of NOLA! Seeing the population density from above is just incredible!

So glad you enjoyed it. The reason that it is part video and part still photos is because it was very hot and we went up the day after it rained. The pilot explained that the ground holds heat which causes warm/cold air pockets that result in turbulence. It was so bad that it was like we were on a trampoline, while still trying to hold the cameras steady! (It was pretty wild.) So, we had to make the best of whatever footage we could salvage from the whole outing. He also explained that the same heat is not held in the swamp area because of the water. Unfortunately, we ended up with no real usable footage there, either. (I think it might be because we were continually "banking" in curves and I was having near heart failure the entire time! We had forgotten the fact that the swamp wasn't included until we just re-watched the video ourselves.) Anyhow, very happy you enjoyed it.
