One thing Oversimplified leaves out and its kind of a big deal is that the U.S. had nuclear missile bases in Turkey aimed directly at Moscow which was what prompted Khrushchev to put missile installations in Cuba.
I recognize that they mention it briefly but they treat it like it was a last minute compromise instead of the intended outcome of the crisis from the Soviet perspective going in.

It's amazing how deeply people in the US believe they always "fight" for freedom and noble reasons while ignoring their support to: Saudi Arabia, Branco, Ríos Montt, stroessner, Pinochet, Franco, Videla, the dictatorship of Uruguay, all the shitty things in Middle East (just whatever or whoever allows them to get cheap petrol)... But then act surprise when it backfires (like the great results they got in Afghanistan)
I am surprised the war in Afghanistan was hardly mentioned even though more than a million people died and the effects of arming Religious extremists is still felt to this day.
one thing I would like to point out is, that in the UDSSR people (comon folks) were in fact not suffering as america portraits it. education was free and schools had a lot of club activities and nice meals. Everyone had a job. But of course people who didn'T want to do anything complained. And yeah, the import was bad, stuff was banned much. And the prices for goods was a constant. What else was cool was that even a child could go to the market, make a stand and sell things the legit way. Try that in a capitalistic country nowerdays :/ it wasn't all sunshines and rainbows, but I feel people make it out to be a LOT more terrible than it actually was. After UDSSR fell things went from supposed 'bad' to worse.
