Not surprisingly, the set designers for the 2016 film "The Founder," starring Michael Keaton, visited the Downey location prior to building the old-timey McDonald's sets for the movie. They wanted the sets to have the original look and feel. I only live about 20 minutes from this historic Downey location, so I stop by whenever I'm in the area. I could probably open my own museum with the memorabilia I collected while working at McDonald's as a teenager, including a brightly colored ceramic "Good Morning" coffee mug in which dine-in customers were served coffee during breakfast hours back in the 1970s when McDonald's advertising slogan was "You deserve a break today."
my first job at 16 in 1969...same looking store in sayerville nj...we had white shirts and black ties ,I ate that garbage everyday for 2 years..so good for a teen
That McDonald’s is so awesome, I’d love to go visit that place one day. Here in Australia, they still deep fry the apple pies 🥰 I love that they have a museum ☺️
i used to live block away from a McDs that had pizza in 1991. it was really not bad, but an employee told me pizza orders really slowed their service down and it was doomed to extinction. was a shame it was so convenient for me.
Whoa!!! they have the OG Apple pie??!😭😍 I dream of that pie! I hated when they changed it to "baked". that Crispy bubbled shell and hot Apple filling!! bring it back it all the McD!! 💖👍
Time travel back to the 70s and 80s. This oldest operating MCD keeps this setting during that time. Others undergo renovations to the current contemporary MCD setting.
I ate there back in the late 1980s. I knew it was the oldest operating McD but didn't appreciate the significance. I mean, we're talking pre TH-cam, pre Instagram, and possibly pre Internet. I don't even remember a museum being there. But I do remember that sign
Great video. It's crazy. I just went there yesterday. I just had the apple pie. I went across the street to senior Birra and made a video over there but added McDonald's into the video.
Hey, Steve! Only you could make McDonald’s (or as we call it, Mickey D.’S) so fun and interesting. I always get the Filet O’ Fish with fries and a Dr. Pepper. Maybe I’ll get the pie too next time! I only go once in a blue moon, but you’ve made me hungry for it! Thanks- good job!
Great video! By the way there is a article in there saying "Downey Men Open New Drive-In Friday" Herald American 6/10/53 Drive-Through's weren't added til 1975.
It looks more authentic to my point of view.I trust your judgment in the food arena , so I knows that it taste is satisfying 🤷🏻♂️ I will be honest “ I am a Wendy’s baby 🙌😄 but a side of MCD fries is the BOMB 👍…I will certainly visit the US sooner than later. I will like to visit Alabama and New Orleans 😄to eat some soul food aka Gumbo and other stuff 😋I also would like to eat some “Asian love food 💯 Top off my vacation! Eat some food with the one and only “ Rockstar Eater👍😀
I have to agree with you on the McDonald's fries, Steve. For me they are the best fries around. And the same goes for their Apple pies. Great when they're hot. As for their burgers I always preferred the Big Mac.
I get about the same result out of the oven @ home with the Ore-Ida Fastfood type frozen fry from the grocery. Give it them a try because a large fry @ mcdonalds is about the same cost as a whole bag of frozen!
I remember the first time I tried Macca's as a kid and I hated it, it was so different to anything normal in Australia, back in the mid to late 80s. It took me awhile to get used to it before I like it, now I like it. I'd love to go to this place and try it again, if they used the old recipe. The chip's at Macca's are the best lol. Love em. Fries, chips haha
Hi Steve from Rockstar eater. I get the quarter ponder with ketchup and cheese only with hot & fresh fries and a Coca cola. Then I usually get a ice cream cone and some more fries if the fries were hot and fresh. ❤🤘👊
Having grown up in Lakewood down the road in the 1950s I was there many times. Yup, the fries now are really good as long as they're hot. Back in the bad-ol'-days McD's fries were notoriously awful . . . greasy and limp with potato peels and bruises intact. ☹
Not the original McDonald's but the oldest operating McDonald's; I also believe that's the only location that still offers the FRIED apple pies whereas all other locations are baked (boo!).; not sure how/why they got grandfathered in but the apple pies were always amazing when it was fried and is no where near as good when they changed it. I used to work near there and would sometimes just go there to grab a couple of the fried apple pies for dessert.
@@RockstarEater - you do a good job of repeating and stating that this is not the original but I was skipping thru to see what you thought of the original fried apple pie and at 7:24 - 7:26, you state "I'm just so happy to be here at the original mcdonald's at this landmark spot". I happened to just land here while trying to ffwd to get your opinion on whether you prefer the fried vs the current baked McDonald's apple pies.

I have been there. They used to have a menu that included
Nearly everything ever sold at MCD. Mcdoggie, pizza, etc.
Good to know

Hola
I remember in the early 90s seeing one in Mississippi had the big sign on top. Long gone now
Oh wow
This is so cool! I love how it has a museum also.
One of a kind

Thats what it says on the title and even in the episode. Didnt say it was the first established.

Did they have the big and tasty?
I subscribe ♡❤️ Do you like korean food?
Why are a lot of franchise owners named Sean?
Why don’t you get cheese on your burgers? Just wondering?Omg I’d pay anything for a real deep fried apple pie!
Dont like the cheese. Sorry :(
@@RockstarEater Aww! It’s ok, don’t apologize, to each their own taste! I support that! ☺️

But is their ice cream machine working?
😂😂😂 Good one!
