Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahib Raga Bhairavi baat chalat nai chunari rang daari

Khan Sahib Aftab e Sitar once told me that Bahiravi is not a raga to end the concert with as most commonly done. He also said Bhairavi has at least 100 colors "sadah rang" he called it. He said every time I play bhairavi it would be different and I find it to be true, He played bhairavi so brilliantly with different feelings that I think that is why no other artists have attempted to do that and kind of left for Khan Sahib. this is just my opinion don't mean to offend anyone. I'm fortunate to have heard dozens of recordings of Ustad Vilayat Khansahab. Yet I find new moods in this. It's really great that his genius is recorded and available for those who were born late!

Splendid !! In my very limited hearing of Khansahib's recordings, it seems that when he played Bhairavi, it usually was the last raag that he played after long and exhausting renditions of other raags. Consequently, a lot of his Bhairavi's were played in a lighter mood, often interspersed with significant phrases of vocal illustration and also sometimes played in the context of a ragamala. This one stands apart together with a few others, where he was focused and steadily built up the music without straying at all. Makes for magnificent listening. Thanks very much for sharing.
