American Idol Genesis Edition - David Hale receives Golden Buzzer!!🎉😂❤🎉 Absolutely ❤ it! Thank you for sharing your phenomenal talent and love of my favorite band!🤩😍👏👏👍
Brilliant. A lot of people probably don't realise the work that goes into the sound design, let alone the musicianship. Absolutely nailed it- If only we could get four of you on stage 🤣
@@jerryseinfeld9815 I have close mics on everything (kick, snare top and bottom, hi hat, and 6 toms), a pair of overheads, and then I also placed a couple of room mics further out. All the close mics are relatively minimally produced just with some eq and compression. I put a transient shaper on the kick to give it a bit more mid pop just as the original recording had. The overheads are slightly scooped in the high mids to avoid those weird painful frequencies and I have those running through a UA LA-2A emulator. The big sound changer is the room mics. I have those compressed with a very quick attack so that it doesn’t have a “mushy” or explosive sound (more like what Phil’s drums sounded like on In The Air or Lonely Man) but more ambient (like how they sound on the original Duke mixes). I think I also threw just a room reverb emulator on the whole thing to give it some slight ambience and dispersion that Polar studios would’ve actually had at the time. Other than that, just minor eq on the whole drum bus and minimal compression. The whole drum sound isn’t very compressed in general, just on the ambient mics. Not exactly sure how they did it back in 1980 but this is my close estimation!
This is the best version of this song on TH-cam that I’ve ever seen, your attention to detail is off the charts on this one man. These sounds are exacting and my jaw is on the floor.
Yeah it's damn good - love this Genesis song (instrumental masterpiece) can't stop listening to this I feel *HOPE* when I hear this - talent my friend🎉
Fantastic! I love that you are keeping Genesis' music alive. My dream at your age was to actually play drums with Genesis, but this is the next best thing.
I was a Genesis Fan and High School Senior when Duke came out. Waited for almost 3 days in line to get front row tickets to San Diego Show. David…Thank You!! This takes me back, WITH PERFECTION. I’ve said this to you before, it warms my heart to know a Young Person with such talent is such a Genesis Fan/Musician. There is hope for the future of music!!
Been a Genesis fan for a long time, I thought this was as close as you could get. I'm also a drummer, Phil Collins is one of my idols, so seeing someone who can replicate his style helps a ton! I'll have show this to my father, fantastic! Subscription earned!
There is this great song ‘turn it on again’ on this album that I would like to see you do. That said you really bring the Genesis vibe along in your videos and that isn’t easy to do at all.
Isn't being incredible on one instrument enough? I've always known you were an awesome drummer but seeing this and now knowing you can do the whole thing has blown my mind😮
Hello David, I was born in 1959 and have known and loved the band Genesis since 1973. I have seen many of their concerts here in Germany. Unfortunately never together with Peter Gabriel. For me, your version here is the absolute masterpiece! It's so much fun to listen to you and to see you on the drums. I don't have enough words to describe how much I love what you do. Thank you so, so much! 😍
A tribute to Mike! In fact, I'm doubly delighted with this cover. Firstly, for David, whose abilities are demonstrated here, as he manages to recreate all the tension of the song's final chorus. I don't find it at this stage in other covers. Secondly, for Mike Rutherford. Not as a guitarist, his level remains what it is, and taking over from Steve Hackett's maestria makes his shortcomings even more glaring, even in his original creations. No, I'm talking about the bassist. He's underestimated, no doubt partly because he's a discreet man with little media coverage, but also because the fact of being a bassist in a band where only reference musicians cohabit relegates the bassist's contribution to the background even more. I'm delighted to see that David hasn't transcribed the complexity of Michael's bass lines, either by design or by skill. On this instrumental, they are literally colossal, allowing Tony to lay down his final "wall of sound" keyboard parts that would later disappear from Genesis music, and Phil to provide such a taut, dense rhythmic impulse. So thanks to David for unwittingly revealing Mike Rutherford's major contribution to Genesis music, which wouldn't have been the same - the music we love - if he hadn't been the band's iconic bassist.
That was akin to watching Edgar Winter Frankenstein or pretty much anything by Jacob Collier! You have a lot of talent, and obviously a very good ear and lots of patience. Truly amazing cover, and one of my favorite 3-member Genesis songs. Very well done! Thanks for sharing. Peace from SF
Yes, finally someone who plays the keyboard part the correct way on TH-cam ! For whatever reason, very few people have it. By listening closely the the live versions, it is possible to determine what chord each hand is actually playing. Each element of the song is spot on. Well done David !
Haha I'm glad somebody notices that too. I couldn't find another cover (aside from Matt Thomas Overdrive, who's incredible) that got all the chords correct. Thanks for watching!
David apologies - when I first heard this I thought you were a band not ''thee band'' Best Wishes on a great musical future. Classic prog rock era 1970-80's best ever!
I believe it was just open E major tuning E B E G# B E. I almost have no idea how to play guitar correctly so I’ve got weird tunings so I can use my thumb/ lots of overdubs haha
The sound of those toms… SPOT ON!
insanely talented
....and that is how you do that! I can't imagine there's anyone else on youtube capable of this. Brilliant effort.
A new Mike Oldfield is Born...❤..amazing❤

Thank you 🫡
This is excellent! Long time Genesis fan since the mid 70’s, and this just makes my day. Ty!
This is insanely accurate i cant wrap my head around it
Close your eyes and you wouldn't know. Amazing.
And still my number one favorite Genesis album.
DITTO!
Brilliant. A lot of people probably don't realise the work that goes into the sound design, let alone the musicianship. Absolutely nailed it- If only we could get four of you on stage 🤣
Haha, many of hours of mixing went into this one. Thanks for watching!
Can you run down the effects chain for your drums. Those tones sound incredible.

One man show! Great, just like the original. Absolutely remarkable!

I make it a point to shame people for lack luster covers of Genesis, but you deserve nothing but high praise!

Thanks a lot! Mike is definitely one of rocks most criminally underrated bassists
What a great way to start a day... or end it!
Very well done! A top rendition of a superb track.🎉
I know that song very very well, and I caught myself feeling as if I was listening to it from genesis 'album, really ! You Rock dude 💌❤
Wow. Your artistry and talent is appreciated. Even more so given your younger generational age. This needs to go viral.
Thank you!
Fantastic! Says this 62 year old musician who has seen Genesis more than most !

This is incredible. Speechless.

Great! Sounds like the original!
How's your next album going? By the way we're also young Genesis fans doing our own music. You might like our first released song "Motion".
Excelente!
🔥
😮😮
Keyboards were spot on too! Would you be able to do a video of them in isolation? How did you get the brass sound?
Thanks! I could do that at some point potentially - I made the patch myself on the behringer OBXA
Awesome work! What tuning did you use on the guitar?
I believe it was just open E major tuning E B E G# B E. I almost have no idea how to play guitar correctly so I’ve got weird tunings so I can use my thumb/ lots of overdubs haha
I AM #500 VIEW! NOW let's have 500 more today!!
That bass looks a bit like my Lakland SK-460???
what snare do you use? thanks!
in this video I’m using the kit snare that came with my Stage Custom, which is a birch snare
