This was my first ascent of this peak, the highest mountain in the amazing Elk Range, but not my first attempt at it, so I was glad to finally get to the top. For my climb of neighboring Elk 14er Capitol Peak: th-cam.com/video/IqZR0zNrgn8/w-d-xo.html. For Elk 14er Maroon Peak: th-cam.com/video/63NPDOZi3jw/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for watching! -CT
@OutdoorExistential thanks for checking out another one of these. And yes: that sublime healthy balance between the precarious and the beautiful - that's when you've arrived!
Great video and detail as always. Good job also on taking personal “inventory” and turning back after summiting Castle. So hard to do, but wise. This was, and still is, my only climb in the Elks. The loose rock is no joke. Thanks for another good video.
As I said, I think the literature understates the challenge of this mountain, at least a bit. Nevertheless, the reason I didn't go on to Conundrum was that I felt mentally spent. I'm pretty sure I could have physically, but I wasn't psychologically up for the additional physical challenge at that point, if that makes any sense. Long story short: I sort of wimped out! Thanks for watching again!
Great hike with some very nice views at the top. Those talus fields are no joke. Got to go slow and sure or you’ll be on your butt quick. And it never gets any easier when you get off track. Looks like you sorted it out, though, kudos… 😊
I have to admit, I think part of why I got off track a couple times was my lack of a thorough enough study of the route the evening before, like I usually do. This was due to the fact that that night a friend and I were hanging out, imbibing liberally of the spirits, leading me to not study sufficiently and get only like 3 hours of rest. Anyway, things went alright, considering. Thanks for catching another one!
@@CentennialTreks Sounds like you may have been a little hungover!! Definitely beast-mode ability and the advantage of youth! Still, you worked it out safely and now have a good story to share (and some great video footage to boot 🥾)

Beauty, serenity, and a healthy dose of precarious exposure. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon watch. Thank for the efforts on this great video dude! :)
