    I appreciate Dan Orlovsky being open-minded, listening to the Falcons' reasoning and applying critical thinking to their decision. I get what Rich Eisen is saying as well. This is the kind of discussion I appreciate instead of what Asshat Michael Lombardi has brought to the table. I think part of the answer to what the Falcons are thinking lays in how they structured Kirk Cousins' contract. While ostensibly it is a 4-year contract, the provisions suggest that the Falcons are effectively viewing it as a 2-year contract as they will have met their guarantee of $100 million by then, and Cousins will be age 38 beginning his 3rd year with an increasing cap hit. So the Falcons will be in a position to cut Cousins by then or restructure his contract. Meanwhile, they have Michael Penix ready to fill in early in case of a Cousins injury or take over if Cousins falters or is no longer worth it. The Falcons' grade on Penix was high, and who is to say they are wrong. Only time will tell, and I am hoping they got it right if only to shut down the likes of arrogant Michael Lombardi.

      You are clearly a Falcons fan trying to justify the pick. We've all been there. You think in their free agent pitch to Cousins they said hey we are going to draft your replacement so we can cut you in two years. If they liked Penix that much why not just draft him 8 and save yourself all that $ you paid Cousins.

      Nah, Kirk will get hurt and will have better weapons in Atl than LV or NO... Seattle would have been nice as well though. More than sitting, him going into such dysfunction should be more worrying. What will they do to him year 4 or 5 if he's elite and they don't want to pay him? Will they give up chances at building a squad just to have his replacement too?

    The Favre to Rodgers comparison to this situation is comparing apples to oranges. Brett Favre had played with Green Bay for over a decade. He knew the offense, the organization, the locker room, everything. Kirk hasn't played a snap for Atlanta so how is he expected to show Penix the ropes on an offense he hasn't even played in yet? If they liked Penix, then draft Penix and save the money by not signing Kirk.

    Before the Draft everybody including Rich is saying that no one gives these rookie QBs time to develop and now when a team is doing exactly that they say they‘re stupid.
    It‘s the same with the Packers. They took Jordan Love, everybody hated it and now they love it.
    I understand that the media needs something to talk about but let‘s wait and see how it‘ll play out.

    • @leonh.kalayjian6556
      @leonh.kalayjian6556 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Penix is an older player and more pro ready than most QBs. If the falcons signed a pass rusher and a safety instead of payng a 36 year old qb 180 million dollars, they would be in a better place

    • @avantesmith6442
      @avantesmith6442 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah they actually have made it about the…you know…100 million dollar contract to a 35 year old QB, claiming to be in win now. The Packers basically pulled the reverse uno card on Rodgers by doing to him, what they did to Brett: preparing for the next guy. Those situations are not the same. Why not use the pick to actually make the team better? Give Kirk more weapons? Help the defense? No?

    • @lexkoenigweddings
      @lexkoenigweddings 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@leonh.kalayjian6556 Don‘t get me wrong, I also would liked it if they signed a pass rusher in FA but we also needed an experienced QB. I‘m not sold on Kirk, but I think he makes us better now and with the cap getting higher every year I think it‘s not gonna be a problem.
      I actually don‘t understand the age arguement. When he starts in two years he will have the potential to at least play 10 years. You never know what can happen in this league. There are QBs playing in their 40s now and there are some who get worse when they are 35. You just cannot know.
      Lastly I think that Penix will benefit from sitting 2 years even if he is the most pro ready QB in this Draft class. The NFL is still different from college and most QBs need time to adjust.
      The thing is, it will take at least 2 years until we know, haha

    • @lexkoenigweddings
      @lexkoenigweddings 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@avantesmith6442 I know what you mean and I would have loved if they signed a pass rusher in FA. As for the ones in the draft you don’t know if they are really that good. Dallas Turner fell and it shows that teams didn‘t think that he is that difference maker the media was trying to make him. He‘s probably not a Micah Parsons.
      And if they took Rome Odunze fans would also have been upset. They can‘t make everybody happy. We have to trust what they are doing. It‘s their job. They do it full time and spend way more time evaluating these prospects than anyone of us. And it‘s still a lottery.
      I‘m still excited for the new season and can‘t wait for it to begin!

Tape on penix was available. Imagine if instead of choosing, they traded for Brian burns and paid him? And paid for a safety like Xavier McKinney? And played penix day one?

Cousins is seasoned and KNOWS how to read defense and process the field. Blank says to Morris - get me a damn QB that can win this damn division NOW. Its HIS damn money Rich and he is tired of losing year after year. He cant take it anymore and that translates in telling Morris go get Cousins and dont care what it cost. Then figure out how to get this lousy franchise on longer term footing. Its a Goddamn business. Got it!!!. Morris & Fontenau are thinking a few years down the road.
