We had a great weekend camping. I bought I new 2 person tent to go with my 6 person family tent. This new tent uses air in the poles and its light. I like your hot tent and I want to start winter camping. Hot tent please. Take care
Just got myself a lavvu, gorgeous bit of kit, I think it's well worth the little extra weight to my bag. Thanks for the video on its uses and some mods, I'm going to use one of mine in its poncho form, too, but definitely going to add the zip to them both and chimney to one side! Great video, well presented, and very well made. You've got yourself a new subscriber!
Thanks for the sub Lestat! I'm just waiting for the weather to cool off so I can start using the Lavvu. I did try it as a poncho and its not great - The hood is the thing that lets it down 😕 but overall the Polish Lavvu is great value and very versatile!
Some good ideas and sound reasoning, many thanks again for running an enjoyable and informative channel, take care out there and good to see the three of you out enjoying yourselves.
Nicely done Michael !! A thought to add to the notion of building a smaller stove (which I could not agree more), and that would be to have it as a gravity/trickle feed pellet stove. Sure would be nice (in winter) to have heat all night long. A floor of reflectix, going high enough to block drafts as you sleep could also enhance the efficiency of a tiny stove. Nice work. Good to see both dogs out and about this time too.
Hi RardogDRB - I've heard bout the pellet idea before but I'm not sure I want to lug the fuel with me 🤔 but it would be nice to have!! Once the shortfalls are in the tent will have lots more room and the snow skirt will seal it up well. I like the idea of the reflectix - Maybe in a custom waxed cotton cover 🤔 More great idea - thanks buddy!

The Lavvu looks great! Packaflame makes some nice ammo can stove kits by the looks of it, I built my own out of a $20 ammo can from princess auto and a couple pieces of 3” galvanized ducting... I’m sure I’m under $50 for it... the trade off with a small stove is I only get about 1 hour of heat (but it’ll cook you out of a Lavvu)... Dave’s bullets and bushcraft on YT has some nice video on DIY stoves he’s built from duct end caps he bought from Home Depot.. I’ll likely build one like he did and try it in my Lavvu against the ammo can stove.
Very cool ideas - Ill check out "Dave's" channel. I know what you mean - It has to be small but have a reasonable slow burn time - I'm aiming for the impossible! LOL 😃

how tall is the center poll in the lavvu? I'm thinking of just using a walking stick, and how many stakes does it require? probably will cut some short stakes from some dead tree. thanks for your help.
I think a walking pole would be too short - But the kit comes with a 3 x pole sections and 4 stakes (total 6 pole sections and 8 stakes for the tent). You can also just cut a pole and stakes as you say 👍
Wow I am the first like and first comment I am really on the ball tonight lol. I really love all the configurations you can do with this tent. Hi Michael, love seeing you Simon and Esme out and having fun. Not sure if I mentioned it to you but I also have a Lavvu and mine is black. I have to say that mine has not been treated and does not let any water in. I put it up and left it in the rain for about 3 days. The outside just seemed to shed the water into droplets and then just ran off. Like you I am also in the process of doing the mods although at a lot slower pace (lol). My only real problem at the moment is getting the zips. I am not in Canada or the US and they don't seem to want to sell them to me. I need 2 @150cm's in black and wondered if you can find a way that I can get them please? Your friend Rach
Hi Rach - I've never seen a black Lavvu - that's cool! In the description I linked to the zippers I used (www.aliexpress.com/item/32952185552.html) they should ship anywhere and they are reasonably priced. I'd love to see a picture of the black Lavvu when its all completed!
Next question, what material would you recommend? I was looking for orange plastic type so it stands out if I need it to. I have also replaced the tie outs with orange webbing and for the side wall skirt i use orange para-cord. Easier to see in the dark and also from the air as of course you would know being in a country where they hunt.
Thank you Michael. I have uploaded 1 of the Black Lavvus and one of the green one that I am modding. Once I find out what I am doing I have many things that I can share with you. I just hope that none of them make you home sick :)
Yup - The Snowtrekker is an awesome tent and this is not a replacement for my Snowtrekker but I'm always looking for ideas to save a person a buck or two and get them started with camping! My early winter camps were in my Go-Lite Hex 3, very similar to this tent but silnylon and non-heated. This is an upgrade from that 😉
Have you ever thought of doing camping for foreigner/tourist package holidays? It will be cool. I believe people from countries that don't have winters would love to experience it. I'm from Singapore.

WOW! you can just push the stakes in by hand. The ground in Az is so hard, you have to use a hammer, and then your stakes are ruined. I enjoy your camping trips.
Thanks Charles - Wow that's some hard ground. In the Boreal forest the ground is very soft - thousands of years of tree needles slowly composting to dirt 😀

I'm not familiar with that tent - but I would buy a British Army Arctic Tent. They are pretty awesome but rare! I do some research on the French version!
That white dog seems like a pleasant little canine. I would love to take it out sometime, buy it a chicken sandwich, and you know... see where things go from there.
nice set up.......i was looking for that black watch that you were wearing on your left wrist in your amazon store, but didn't see it, did it come from elsewhere? or is it just not shown yet?
Hi Mr Waynes - The watch is the Momentum Smoke Jumper - I've added it now! 👍 Amazon didn't carry it for a long time as it was a special edition. Its been a great watch and it never leaves my wrist or misses a tick!
I'm curious where did you find the poll that you used as a center support I've been looking for something like that and so far I haven't found anything thank you
If you heart is set on one - then I would wait. They come in and out of stock all the time. There is also the German half shelters, that also seem out of stock 😣
I’ve always liked these “tents” ... but I do have a question. After all the modifications as it can no longer be used as a poncho and is purely a tent, are they still worth it? Seems the drawbacks of them as a tent are still there, but none of the poncho benefits. BTW What size did you buy? Re: Stove, I’ve seen a great mini stove build using two ikea stainless pans (top and bottom) ... perfect for a small one man winter tent setup. I’ll dig up the link if you like.
I know what you mean about them not being used as ponchos again afterwards. It reality they are not great ponchos - but I did make all the modifications to only one - So the other one is intact and can be used as a normal half shelter if needed. I'd like to see the Ikea pan stove - that sounds cool! I bought the medium size Lavvus.
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors He has one that has no welding. It works really well. I too, am doing the Polish Lavvu Pancho tent. The skirt, i am not sewing. I sewed flaps with buttons on them two inches, or so from the ends of the tent and will sew button holes on the skirts so that they will be modular. Am still waiting on the remaining used pancho to come in so that i can do the skirts. I will do a video to test it when i am done. Good mods on your tent. I will do the same for the door loops.
That tent looks great. Where did you purchase the Polish Lavvu for $21.00 USD. I can't seem to find anything in that price range, were the ponchos new or used . What did it cost you for shipping. Great mods.
Great solution! Thanks for the video! As always yous have fantastic ideas to improve! There is also a nother tent that almost identical, it's the Hungarian Laavu it's some time's cheaper.

Hi Lynda - You need a stove pipe to vent the burnt gases and fumes out of the tent or you will die pretty quick. But rocket stoves outside work great though!
Thanks Maryann - I see lots of bear sign - but they are only black bears and they stay away from humans. I think bears become a problem when they mingle too much with people and lose the fear.

I'm not familiar with that tent - but I would buy a British Army Arctic Tent. They are pretty awesome but rare! I do some research on the French version!
I'm 6'3 I would need a large size one. Thanks
They come in 3 sizes - Make sure you get the big one!
Serious question
Can you put three of these ponchos together for more room or does it only work with two
I'd love to know thanks
I think you can only use 2! The angles would all be wrong with 3 I wold think!
Pro seal will sort it out for wet weather. Water just rolls of it.
Thanks for the tip Kenneth! 👍
Im using the Gstove in my Lavvu.
I like the little G-Stove - Little bit out of my price range for a stove but they look great!
That white dog seems like a pleasant little canine. I would love to take it out sometime, buy it a chicken sandwich, and you know... see where things go from there.
LOL - He's like the sandwich that's for sure!
where can I find that chest pack?
Its called the Ribs chest pack and I have some older videos on it. I'm not sure if they are still made.
It was my dog Odins first camping trip.
Thanks great!
nice set up.......i was looking for that black watch that you were wearing on your left wrist in your amazon store, but didn't see it, did it come from elsewhere? or is it just not shown yet?
Hi Mr Waynes - The watch is the Momentum Smoke Jumper - I've added it now! 👍 Amazon didn't carry it for a long time as it was a special edition. Its been a great watch and it never leaves my wrist or misses a tick!
I'm curious where did you find the poll that you used as a center support I've been looking for something like that and so far I haven't found anything thank you
It came with the Lavvu - 4 pegs and 2 pole pieces in each Lavvu kit. Check out www.varusteleka.com
Hi Michael, varusteleka is currently out of stock of the Lavvu. Do you have any other recommendations?
If you heart is set on one - then I would wait. They come in and out of stock all the time. There is also the German half shelters, that also seem out of stock 😣
what kind of backpack is that
Thats the Savotta Jaakari www.varusteleka.com/en/product/savotta-jaakari-backpack/33028 - Great pack!
how do you find the stove jack? any issues? would you use it again? do you find one with a silicone ring would be better?
I bought this one from amazon but they are easy to make from a fire blanket and some high heat silicone sealant!
Esme looked a little confused at the end of the video when you started packing up. No good long snooze in a nice warm sleeping bag! 😀
I know! We are so used to camping out and rarely do a day thing - Poor girl 🐶
The Emporium Outdoors Here is the link my friend!

Richard.
Thanks Richard - Ill check it out!
Try finding swedwoods on TH-cam. He has a nice DIY amo can stove.
HI thanks - I've seen a few ammo can made and watch Shedwoods from time to time 👍

He has one that has no welding.
Great mods.
I bought them from www.varusteleka.com but I don't see them for sale at the moment. Just keep an eye on the site and I'm sure they will pop-up again!
Great solution! Thanks for the video! As always yous have fantastic ideas to improve! There is also a nother tent that almost identical, it's the Hungarian Laavu it's some time's cheaper.
Thanks Balazs - Ill take a look for the Hungarian Lavvu!
I don’t get it could we get an equipment list?
Nevermind I’m a big dummy
No problem 👍
I'm getting the Luxe Mini Pyramid XL hot tent with stove Jack for $209.00 USD. Your always a week late Michael, I'm gonna have to have a long talk with Esme on your punctuality!
Hi Stephen - I'm sure the Luxe Mini Pyramid XL will work out great! I took a quick look and it looks very cool! Let me know what you think when it arrives! 👍
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I will, it's 8.85×8.25.... now that I'm 6'4" on my right side and 5'4" on my left with Hope who's the same size as Esme who only sleeps on the right side with longer legs than Esme. I'm just not finding tents my size! ⛺ Or Hope's size I should just say.
Yup - You are a tall person and I bet it causes some issues with tents! 😁 The Luxe does look like it has a bunch of room!
@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Yes sounds good to me but I'll have to check it out myself 1st.
Wonder if a rocket stove would work
Hi Lynda - You need a stove pipe to vent the burnt gases and fumes out of the tent or you will die pretty quick. But rocket stoves outside work great though!
Two wonderful doggies and a lavvu, we'll this chanel is awsome
Thanks Blanket man! 👍
Now that you put up your dogs tent 😂
Hahahaha 😄
I enjoy your videos. Do you ever cross path with bear. What do you have to defend yourself.
Thanks Maryann - I see lots of bear sign - but they are only black bears and they stay away from humans. I think bears become a problem when they mingle too much with people and lose the fear.
Hey when you make your stove checkout Dave’s bullets and real survival on TH-cam. He’s a fellow albertan and makes all sorts of stoves and neat outdoor videos. Perhaps you already know his channel.
Either way thanks for yet another great video Michael.
Cheers
Thanks buddy - Ill check it out! 👍
I seen the smallest stove ever on a video. It's a small cube. Take care and thanks
Thanks, you too!
Silver side up I thought....
There are two schools of thought. Survival Russia has a good video on the topic. I'm more of a shiny side down when used as a ground sheet.
The name of the video is called, " $100 Hot Tent with micro stove. Bad weather solo camping"
Ill check it out!
😂😂😂
👍😄
Where's the fekin stove!
Actually - I bought an ammo can to make the stove and have not shown that project yet 👍
Too small
I think it is also. maybe the Polish are small people?! 🤔😄
