The reason these demo kicks exist is the same reason the military throws and twirls rifles. Not to show off, but if you can't drop your gun, or in this case fall, while doing multiple spins in the air then you will never fall when do simpler and more practical kicks

Performing requires athleticism and high concentrations in other to avoid mistakes that could lead to fatal injuries. So in a way, by practicing and rehearsing these performances, they're also hardening their reflexes, skilled, and maintaining a healthy body system for good athleticism. So martial arts are more than just fighting, there's a beauty in martial arts that a lot of us are missing.

It’s kind of crazy seeing the contrast from American TKD and Korean TKD. American TKD surprisingly focuses more on the arts side with musical forms and Koreans tend to focus more on the martial side coming up with more and more difficult kicks. Even though they do practice a little of both in each country this is kind of the trend I’ve seen.

@@mpmd6.9, well not all tkd is practical. It’s not al there for you to defend yourself. Grand Master Jhoon Rhee, the guy who brought TKD to America made several musical forms, those weren’t there for defense, those were there to show how impressive and beautiful martial arts could be.
