    MelyD: I love I your videos, yet finally 'listened' to this one ☺ I followed what you did, especially with the white, just water in the rest and paid attention to consistency-plus fought the feeling to add silicone...and LOVE my end result!! Thank you and keep bringing the videos!!

    Beautiful pour on a large canvas! Wow, now I know what's been frustrating me for the last two days and with much gnashing of teeth, and hair pulling. I had vowed to go back to my watercolours and put what's left of my acrylics in a deep dark cupboard again... When here, tucked up in my bed, going through emails and this vid just popped into my inbox with the answer.... NOW I realise why I am not getting the effect I want...... not enough white!YOU are my artistic life saver! Thank you soooooo much 😘

    Thanks for sharing your process! Have you considered using left over smoothie (naked juice) bottles for mixing? I do a different kind of painting, but I like to dilute my paints. The wide mouth makes them easy to fill, I can shake it well and keep the leftovers. Just a thought to save time and paint😊

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kimberlee Rocca thanks for the idea but shaking is not a good way to prepare the paint for this. It must be mixed and blended not shaked. Thanks though!

    doesnt diluting the paint with water make it less durable in time creating cracks and etc?

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My paintings don't crack but yes, it is better to add a few drops of pouring medium to help the pigments stay bound. I do this all the time now :) I especially wanted to show that it's possible to get cells with just paint and water. So to answer your question, diluting with water is fine if you add pouring medium first.

    Why did you only dilute the white with pouring medium and not the others? I paint too and like what you're doing there it's really interesting how the process ends up so different at the very end.

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dilute the white because it's very cheap and I want the pigment to stay bound as much as possible. I also don't want it to mix too much with the other colors creating all kinds of new ones.

    What is the difference in the paint with water or pouring Medium? Don't they both give the same consistency to the Paint?

    • @fluffyclouds4303
      @fluffyclouds4303 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that the mixing of colors is retarded by a pouring medium. not 100 percent on that though. ..

    • @heidithomas5455
      @heidithomas5455 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Water brakes down the binders, which then cause the colors to separate and sometimes with cheaper paint, cracks. Medium is a binder base that thins the paint without losing the richness of color. Some people add white glue to the water to try and keep the vibrance but glue, although acts like a binder can also crack the paint.

    • @monicaswan4675
      @monicaswan4675 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was just wondering the same thing. I think it makes a huge different as I am from a dry climate and things dry different in the summer than in winter. Great question :)

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The room is generally at 20 C and warmer in summer. The water is either cold or room temperature

    • @abitofwhimsie
      @abitofwhimsie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kim Putnis I also wonder about humidity and the difference it makes as far as cracking I guess that slower drying means less cracking but I could be completely wrong.

    Is it so that with additive in your middle color (white or black) change the surface tension in comparison with the colours without additive, that creates the cells? *trying to understand what's happening!*

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cells are created by the different densities of colors intertwining when moved around. The key is the right consistency.

    Can you use any brand of acrylic paint for this? I know I've seen a lot of people using acrylic ink instead. If you used acrylic ink instead what differences do think would have happened to your painting instead? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I should or shouldn't buy in order to try this style of painting out :)

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jasmine King you can use any kind of acrylic paint. Inks reacts differently as they are like water. The paint, you want to thin it down to the right consistency. hope this helps a bit!

    Hi Mel. I really love this painting. Great job. I have still been experimenting but still haven't come up with something I really like.... I will get back at it one of these days though. I just really need to clear a better space to work in. Glad things are going good for you and that you are still painting. You got such beautiful effects with paint and water and that little bit of pouring medium. Thanks for sharing your technique.

    thank you so much for sharing how you mix your paints! I've watched countless other videos and artists are sooo secretive with how they do things. you're so willing to teach other, it's so lovey. thank you darlin! love your work, keep painting, you're one talented sister!❤😉

    What kind of ratio do you use for the paint and water/pouring medium? I always mix mine with water and seem to add too much water.

      I loe your work, but I cannot seem to create the cells. I use Michael's pre stretched canvases Is my paint too thick? too thin?
