I discovered this song in a very dark period of my life. I was tired, sick, wanting to die from the pain I was in. So depressed. But every day I had to walk through a park on the way to my apartment...and I would play this as I passed through it. It always cheered me up. Today I am healthy and enjoying life. And still listening....
My daughter Ruby was born while this song was playing right when the song kicks in she slipped out. I’ll never forget that moment me and bibio shared, thanks dude.
I heard this song for the first time when I was around 11 or 12. (I’m 23 now). It will always remind me of childhood and hot, sticky summer evenings. Listened to it when I visited spain for the first time and I listened to it sitting in the park behind my grandmother’s house. So many good memories attached to this. So much time has gone by and so much pain has been endured but occasionally I’ll revisit this tune and just close my eyes and sink into the feeling…
LYRICS: Lovers' names carved in walls Overlap, start to merge Some of them underneath Maybe they appear in graveyards Maybe they fade away Weathered and overgrown Time has told Meaningful hidden words Suddenly appear from the murk Maybe they're telling us That the end never was Never will The words have gone But the meaning will never Disappear from the wall.
My parents have a video of me dancing with them to this song back when I was 3 or 4ish in our kitchen that was small with the really ugly tiles but every time I hear this song it fills me with a overwhelming sense of happiness remembering those times but at the same time it makes me incredibly sad and nostalgic but one thing I know for sure is that I truly love this song.
I used to listen to this song when I was 12yrs old always wondering.. "who's gonna be THE love of my life.. who will this song be so meaningful towards?" Sometimes getting sad in no hope of ever finding love. Now I listen to this with the love of my life & our son, someone who I manifested into my life for so long 💛(:
Same!! I spent three years trying to find this song and then finally I watched the movie The Switch and when the end credits started I was like OMG that’s the song!!!!!
I implore anyone who enjoys this song to read the lyrics. Such a poppy, happy tune, but the lyrics are straight outta Simon & Garfunkels brains. Poetic, tear-coaxing words
This song so vividly reminds me of a specific old love i had a couple of years back. She introduced me to Bibio and taught me a few things i never knew about myself. Like most things in life it wasnt meant to be. Its nice to be able to look back with fondness at a happy part of your life. If you ever read this Jess, i hope wherever you are or whatever youre doing, youre happy x
She’ll see it some day. Cheers mate 🍻 “Lovers' names carved in walls Overlap, start to merge Some of them underneath Maybe they appear in graveyards Maybe they fade away Weathered and overgrown Time has told Meaningful hidden words”
I hope people can learn to appreciate this type of music :) it's not boring! It's awesome and I can't wait to roam around the streets during this rainy season while thinking of my love and listening to these blissful tunes.
I've only experienced synesthesia a few times in my life and this song was by far the most intense. When I listen to the first minute and a half of this song I can see an old 1700s farmer out in the parries. Sitting in a homemade rocking chair on his front porch looking out over the wheat field, smoking a pipe and watching the sun set as the wind gently blows through the grass like waves on the ocean. Gently rocking to the tempo of the song, the chair stops rocking just as the last rays of sun fall beyond the horizon and the first half of the song ends. The rest of the song is great but for whatever reason my brain blasts my awareness with this scene, fully fleshed out and with incredible detail every time I listen to it and close my eyes. I don't get this with any other songs. Not sure what's going on here but I'm glad I found it!
I've been looking for this song forever. I've always found this song nostalgic because I have an absurdly fond memory of me listening to this song in the car when I was little. I can't be more than amazed that I finally stumbled upon this video.
I remember a girl showing me this song that I barely talk to anymore. I was just a high schooler, hanging with my friends, being myself, not realizing what was to come. I'm not bitter about where I am now, just happy that I got to experience youth, which I feel so many fail to realize they got. I can be a grown up, knowing I got my youth, and this song was a large part of it. Something about this song is so special.
Bibio was first introduced to me as an Adult Swim bump like almost a decade ago or so and this song is like timeless for me. it’s weird I get nostalgia from it but it’s always kinda like a new experience for me listening to bibio
I remember hearing the intro to this song in Adult Swim bumps back in the day, and I always assumed it was some classic folk song from the 60's. I was delighted to find out this is actually a much more recent song. Just goes to show that timeless classics can still happen in this day and age.
If your reminiscing on your child hood while listening to this and you have a tear come down your eye it’s tears of joy and sadness because you miss those times and your happy you grew older…… THATS WHAT THEY CALL NOSTALGIA
First time i heard this song was about 9 years ago. It was lightly playing in a scene from the movie 10 years and i searched and searched for it and loved. recently watched the film again and fell in love with it all over again. Makes me smile!
All 6th grade my math teacher played this song, I loved it! I then forgot about it. Now I’m in 7th grade and saw the Hyundai commercial and the memories just hit me like a bullet, thanks mr Hazel for the memories.🤧
This reminds me so much of summers in London it’s the first place I went to when I heard it especially the 00’s pre smartphone walking around with your house keys and your flip phone which was purely for calling and texting- on your way to somewhere to meet your friends and remembering the directions in your head. And then I saw artwork and I was stunned. I knew it was a London street straight away almost identical to the one I grew up on and he pretty much looks like he’s living the exact scenario it took me to in my head haha I think I stared at it on my Spotify for the whole duration of the song when I first saw it. I mean a song might remind you of an era in your life but I’ve never been THAT accurate before. Love.
If you excise the intro, it's an incomplete song. Yes, it's an impossibly catchy hook, but it feels shallow and one-dimensional without the context. The intro makes the change in tempo/tone more significant and "earned."
The song asks what of meaning remains after the many ephemeral relationships one strikes up in the course of life have long run aground. The metaphor of a wall where one might chalk up each new ‘conquest’ is employed. As woman upon woman, lover upon lover is written on the wall, their names - and in parallel their emotional import - start to overlap. St. Vincent asks in the song ‘the Strangers’; “What do I share? What do I keep from all the strangers who sleep where I sleep?” Bibio relates how even if the individuals (‘ names) have been forgotten, the myriad experiences which were shared with all the lovers as a total still constitutes meaning which can last, even if the individual relationships don’t.
Takes me back to the days of no responsibilities and having fun. Kids, don’t rush to grow up. Savor your childhood before it’s gone because once you’re a young adult, the days go by faster and there’s less time for fun and games. Get off your phone and hang out with your friends and family!!!
Wonderful guitar work, when I heard this I shazamed it and was expecting a release date from the late 60's. Glad I discovered it. The intro to this songs feels like something you would hear on the soundtrack for Midnight Cowboy.
Finally I found this song it took me years to be exact like 12 years it I remember hearing when I was like 11 roughly and over the years I lost it but randomly it would come to my head every now but could never really pin point who it was who sung it but I found it!!! After all this time Finally I can rest in peacefully

LYRICS:
Lovers' names carved in walls
Overlap, start to merge
Some of them underneath
Maybe they appear in graveyards
Maybe they fade away
Weathered and overgrown
Time has told
Meaningful hidden words
Suddenly appear from the murk
Maybe they're telling us
That the end never was
Never will
The words have gone
But the meaning will never
Disappear from the wall.

That beginning part has such late 60s hippie vibe to it..which I love
Yes, late 60s, early 70s. Like Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell, etc.
It reminds me of something that would be in a 70s children's stop motion TV show.
These comments are so wholesome. Thank you Bibio for this treasure. This song always lights me up.
Stephen Wilkinson was one of my lecturers in my first year of college. He left when he got signed to Warp. I just wanted to brag a little about that.

It's a shame that this version has a fraction of the views compared to the one that cuts to the most recognisable part. The full song is beautiful.
what other musics have cuts from this music?
As in, someone has uploaded a video where it plays from 1:27 and has got way more views than the original video (this one)
If you excise the intro, it's an incomplete song. Yes, it's an impossibly catchy hook, but it feels shallow and one-dimensional without the context. The intro makes the change in tempo/tone more significant and "earned."

Fuck that the intro is great
The song asks what of meaning remains after the many ephemeral relationships one strikes up in the course of life have long run aground.
The metaphor of a wall where one might chalk up each new ‘conquest’ is employed. As woman upon woman, lover upon lover is written on the wall, their names - and in parallel their emotional import - start to overlap.
