For lap joint your nn=1 & ns=0 ( no plane in shank part) But in double cover butt joint your nn=1 & ns=1 (one plane in each part) [ This above data is for one bolt ] Talking about your confusion you can't take nn=2 because this value is for 1 bolt. For calculating design strength of bolt you will find Vnsb first and then multiply it by the no. Of bolts [ n×Vnsb] to find the total strength. And you also can't take ns=0 , otherwise what is the need of that formula then? You are ignoring the shear plane in shank part!! That will be useless Also I have reference from several books about those values . You need to tell your sir too about this. I hope you got it🙏🏻
