Did they give any news about the Great Guitar Build Off yet?

    •  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

It seems like there won't be one this year. At least not hosted by Crimson Guitars

Bummer. I’d still participate in a build off though. Interestingly enough, I too bought a prs style kit for my build lol

@@Calron1988 there is however the"Jury's cup" by the "guitar builders collective"

I’m still waiting on my kit to get here. If the GGBO doesn’t happen by June does that other build off have an open enrollment to compete?

    •  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Calron1988 I'm not sure, but it seems like a quite open community build kind of thing

This was interesting but I had interest in PVX and went to their site and no kits sold there just pieces. Did you order the pieces one by one for the build? Guess if I had a link to that build you likely explain more there.

I buy the pickups and hardware (bridge, tuners, nut, knobs etc) from a regular music store (e.g. Thomann, Sweetwater etc). That way I can select the specific pickup that I want, what kind of bridge etc.
The "guitar kit world" kit had everything included, but it's "budget quality" stuff. It works, but getting e.g. name brand tuners will make the tuning stability much better etc
I am almost finished building the "guitar kit world" guitar, I'll have a video ready later this November :)

How do you compare the Harley Benton CST-24 kit to these kits? I plan to make a 70s-style CST-24 someday in a walnut stain or mocha finish. Do you think this kit will do the trick?
That REK Custom is beautiful. I also know Mayones and Mensinger guitars from Poland. Great guitars.

I built a Harley Benton Les Paul shaped kit once, which is similar. The bodies of the HB kits is covered with a sealer coat, so if you want to do a walnut stain, then you'll need to send it off first.
The HB kits usually have a 3 to 4 piece top, so it might not look too great with a translucent finish.
Overall, my HB kit turned out to be a decent guitar, but you'll need to re-tune ever so often with the included tuners (cheap stuff). The pickups were fine.

@ Yes, the top may actually look not so great with so many pieces. Maybe I'll just make a goldtop. Thanks for the tips.

the most chinese kits are okoume, not african mahogany. everyone its using okoume in asia; epiphones, prs se, etc. and I mean the +1000 bucks guitars.

Even though the PVX has the best construction and preferred woods but doesn't have the PRS core type violin curve like the Bian Xuben one.
