    A pioneer of non-violent civil disobedience as
    political protest, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
    was the leader of the Indian nationalist struggle
    for independence. A thinker and prolific writer on
    the concept of non-violence, he was assassinated
    in Delhi on January 30, 1948.
