    Hmmm! Limelite is marketed as breathable. Also, it is not compatible with gypsum (multi-finish) as per their own website🤷🏻‍♂️

    ‘Breathable’ is a fairly standard term applied to building materials, think breathable membrane etc. Its meaning is well understood, as in relatively highly vapour permeable. I’m not sure anyone would be confused into thinking the product has lungs. And after all the purpose of language is just to communicate information efficiently.

      Yeh these words have been eased in for the hard of thinking 🤔 I know that but I don’t have to like it and will stamp my feet n cry every time I hear it 😤😭

    There is a primer that you have to apply mixed with water, when it is sticky you apply the limelite straight on to it.

    Water as a gas yes will go through most building fabrics …..that’s until it drops below Dew point …..to which condenses …..and then cement traps moisture As does gypsum.
    Solid walls do need to be breathable to allow moisture to escape as that’s how they we’re built

      Wrong the water doesn’t get trapped it carries on its journey once dew point is higher usually a change in temp

      @@dampsam it’s not wrong in the slightest ……if you walk warms up it will evaporate yea…..that’s very obvious……but other than that it’s sat there on your wall soaking it through as cement is impervious……lime isn’t and so it will slow that moisture to escape……….years you mention dry zone renovating plaster in videos…….which still has cement in it……but dry zone claim it’s breathable ……so these companies know full well that breathable materials solve the issue …..though it’s for cement mixed in also so defeats the object completely lol ……not having a go btw just interested to discuss

    The scratch is a cross scratch with the renovation plaster, not wavey lines.

    Too right Samuel. Limelite is not a substitute for lime mortar. There's no substitute for quicklime sand and water. 👍

  • @daleburns7110
    @daleburns7110 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    You say breathing isn’t a thing ……it’s a general term that states that solid walls lose moisture via the mortar joints ….that’s why they’re built with lime mortar…..water can go in and out but as it’s able to escape the house is dry.
    Ignoring this is only going to incur issues down the line

    • @dampsam
      @dampsam  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s a general term used by people who have heard it from people but don’t know what it is really so I tell them

      @@dampsam it’s not that they have heard it from other people it’s been a fact for as long as the houses have been built that the lime enables the moisture to escape …..and the use of gypsum and cement on a solid wall ….once it drops to below dew point there is nowhere for it to go……as it’s not “breathable “
