    Back in the early 1990s, I was at a weeklong obedience camp with a multi-group winning Komondor from Oklahoma--red dirt country. When his owner was campaigning him in the breed ring, she had to keep his cords rolled in papers to keep them from staining with the red dirt. That way, it cut her grooming time down to 48 hours per month. Before she figured out the rolling his cords in paper trick, she figured she was spending over 125 hours per month grooming him, in part because she refused to deprive him of living a normal active life. And people think Poodles in a show coat are high maintenance!

      @@ChiefHerzensCoach I owned and showed three dogs to their AKC championships and a couple more dogs that had points but didn't finish due to my life events (no lack of merit on their parts).
      All of my conformation dogs lived normal lives and looked on the breed ring as their chance to reap the admiration they believed was their natural due. I mean, running in circles for liver and praise? That's like money for nuthin' and yer chicks fer free!
      At the same time my various dogs were being campaigned, they were also playing in obedience, herding, tracking, schutzhund (bitework is almost too much fun), swimming in ponds and hiking on a regular basis. Oh, and being my service dog. Not every dog participated in every activity (except swimming and hiking) but they were all living happy, active lives.

I guess I should start taking her to pet parades, now that she's adequately socialized (my folks did not understand how long she would live & insisted she was a senior dog at 5 and just catered to her whims lol, she's doing well at tolerating other animals now tho).

      No, the Puli is an ancient breed. They are not bred because it's chic. They're bred like this because people want to preserve a herding heritage breed which is a national cultural treasure. @@ShelleyScreen well, we can be very welcoming. 😄 I mean, our country is a little, (weak) and barely known one. Every sane minded Hungarian leaves it because of the f@cked up government and those of us who are not assholes tend to be very helpful and welcoming with each other. The small village spirit and trust what people used to have in the past is something we still have in many parts of Hungary nowadays since we still have a lot of the "old ways knowledge" especially in the elderly generation.
      I just say this: 1. Never try to learn Hungarian because it has no right to be as hard as it is and I only learned english well when I was a teenager. 💀
      2: Many spirits are a multitool basically. Mother now only uses pálinka if she has a herpes. it's good to use instead of aceton on nails, it disinfects your throat if you're sick (in old times people would boil up a little pálinka with honey and had that for sickness), nobody does this but TRUST ME, the well scented pálinka is heavenly in some hot chocolate, like cherry pálinka and it's even good with tea. Oh, and for muscle burn too after workout. It widens the blood veins.
      Anyway, ask away for further knowledge your Hungarian relatives because we know a lot of useful things regarding nature. Have a nice holiday, pal!

    It's wonderful to see a properly cared for coat, because after twenty years in the veterinary field we had a particular client with multiple pulis -- who should not have owned them -- and it was not the poor dogs' faults they were unfortunately a bit stinky and had tons of skin issues because of lack of care. No matter how much client education -- gentle and firm-- changed the pets' care or prevented more pulis being added to their pack. I adore how Vanessa doesn't shame owners, but sadly in the case of these miserable patients we had, it was inexcusable how these sweet dogs were treated.

      Greyhounds, whippets and Italian greyhounds are great dogs for people that want a low maintenance canine companion. You just have to make sure they have an adequate wardrobe for cold weather: sweaters, coats, pajamas, etc, plus boots for those extra cold days which are a good idea for pretty much any breed of dog. I had a greyhound for 4 1/2 years before she passed at 7 years old from cancer, and she just needed a bath every couple of months, a waterless shampoo sometimes in between, and occasional brushing to loosen up the shed fur. Very low maintenance, indoor dogs that sleep most of the day, little to no drooling and no wet dog smell as they don't produce the oils that cause the smell.

    Thank you SO MUCH for this video! The way you distinguished cords on an Hungarian Pulley from locs or dreaded human hair is appreciated. Too many people confuse matted hair to locs or cords to locked hair. Just because you might have the appropriate hair texture to loc your hair *it doesn't just happen* it takes hours of commitment of washing, conditioning, steaming, drying and twisting hair. It's time consuming and very expensive. I hope some folks who are considering getting this dog will see your excellent work and understand that cords do not just happen and your not looking at matted hair thats free to grow into a style What your looking at on a groomed dog is *a groom* that is styled clean and cared for in a particular way. Also dog cords are *NOT* locs... the distinction is simply one is a dog and one is a human. I hope more folks use the appropriate language. Thank you! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I forwarded this video to a friend who had argued that it was cruel to dreadlock a dog when I was trying to explain the difference between cords and dreads and that some dogs naturally grow cords. They didn't believe me until after they saw you grooming and explaining. Beautiful grooming job as always and I look forward to your next video!!!!

    You keep getting unicorn Pulis I think. My only experience was a stubborn, impossible to train one. Of course I’m always happy to see positive representatives of a breed, and I also hope potential owners will do careful research…

    • @andij605
      @andij605 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      in Hungary that's certainly the stereotype, that they're extremely stubborn. very 1 person centered, only listening to 1 owner. so eg. not the best family dog. not the worst either, like they do tolerate kids, but they just don't love them necessarily.

    Apparently corded coats are so thick that fleas and ticks can't get to the dog's skin so their coats are pest repellent. It must be hard to find a groomer willing to work on a corded coat. Great job!

    This dog literally has locs!! Ahh it’s so funny watching this video because when I go a long time without getting a retwist my locs will combine at the root and it’s a PAIN to pull them apart. Also, it’s so interesting to see that some of this dogs “locs” haven’t fully matured. Very different texture and density of matured locs vs starters. I contemplated getting this breed but my heart is stuck on a standard poodle and keeping a low cut. My head is enough to deal with already lol

    I first ever hear of Puli when I was 10 and my grandma gifted me a book about all the dog-breeds. I looked a lot at the book cause I loved seeing info on the dog breeds and was amazed at how this dog had such a fur. When I first heard of them on TV some years later in a show, I was "Ooof not for me" cause the woman in the show said the owners of the dog she took for a walk had to maintain the look by working on the cords for 2 hours all 4 days
