SEEING this immediately brought me back to my childhood. It brought me back to when I was a little boy, and life was simple, when all I wanted to do was live and celebrate life with my family and friends and could happily do it. Birthdays, holidays and occasions come to mind, of when I could be with my loved ones and we were all together. God do I miss those days.
This movie may not be perfect, but you have to give gold medals to the animators not only for being able to capture Marcella's live action room in animation perfectly but also for being able to animate The Greedy later on in the film.
looneytoon76 The original story of Raggedy Ann was written back in 1915. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have Toy Story. All movies and stories relating to toys coming to life can be traced to this.
Rubberman202 Yeah, emphasis on "creep." honestly though, what was with those dolls? Those things seriously had no reason to be in this film, naked no less. Then again with how crazy this movie gets, that's debatable.
Upon death, you are sent to purgatory. There, these two will judge your life's actions and rule whether you go to Paradise with the Lord, or sent to Hell.
Fun fact, it was actually one of the earliest COMPUTER animated cartoons. The full thing wasn't CG I don't think, but there's a clip of 4 key frames of ann bowing and doing a curtsy, the computer then animated the rest of her (Which is how I found this). Of course this is easy now, blender does it even. But for the 70s that kind of animation was GODLY.
Iunno why everyone is saying this movie creeps them out. Anne has to be the sweetest cinnamon roll ever. This entire movie is pure wholesomeness. Except for the part with the greedy, that's some lovecraftian nightmare fuel.
I think they're based out of the penny peg dolls/dutch dolls, they were characters from the original book, but to be honest tho, the one from the movie looks way freaky than the actual dolls
Remember watching this when u was five or six in 1995 in a kids channel in Greece wow I have some creepy memories about it but at the same time some weirdly happy memories also
I loved this movie as a child. I still love it now. Toy Story made me hope they would rerelease raggedy ann because I burned out my copy watching it too much as a child.
You can clearly hear Joe Raposo here at the beginning. Also see our "restoration comparison" to see the missing frames in this scene that I had to replace from VHS.
omg...I thought I'd never see this movie again. It was my favorite movie EVER when I was a little girl, and watching it now...literally brings back so much...
No matter how mixed the reviews are, it is one of the greatest animated movies from my early childhood; I am also surprised that Maxi-Fixit is voiced by the same person behind Simon Bar Sinister from the Underdog cartoon; I wish this movie is on DVD.
I was watching Toy Story today and I just had to find this again. It's been so long since I've seen it. It's funny how Toy Story just took off and yet this one slipped into the great abyss of long lost classics we '80's kids must scour the internet to find.
Just watched this movie all the way for the first time; I was so tempted to make an Annabelle the Doll joke, and now I feel ashamed of myself. Why was this movie not part of my childhood? ;.;
I ran this as a projectionist at the Whittwood theatre near Los Angeles when it first came out. I haven't seen it since. The movies opening and closing titles theme music sure brings back a lot of memories. Thank you for your great effort.
I found this after all of these freaking years cause of one scene that literally haunted me as far back as i could remember. Why were old animated movies so freaking scary and messed up, the one scene from Akira where whats his butt is in the milk and they are all big toys coming after him reminds me of this crap.
This movie is just so charming. I wish we had more movies like these for children to watch. Yes even the weird stuff. That's the best stuff of all things.
Like the Peanut Butter Solution...this movie provided traumatic memories when I was a little kid. These movies were technically not scary, but for the sensitized imagination of a six year old they were downright terrifying! I miss those days when the imagination ran rampant and I had fun being scared. Watching this movie brought back so many memories and I am very happy that I had the chance to see it again as an adult. Thank you to whatever nutcase took the time to post it for our pleasure!
HERE'S AN EXAMPLE. Milt Kahl animated Pinocchio. Ward Kimball animated Jiminy Cricket Art Babbit animated Geppeto. Eric Larson animated Figaro. Norman Ferguson animated Honest John and Gideon. Vladimir Tytla animated Stromboli. Fred Moore animated Lampwick. Wolfgang Reitherman animated Monstro the whale. Frank Thomas, Les Clark Ollie Johnston, Preston Blair Jack Cambell, John Lounsbery Berny Wolf, Don Towsley Don Lusk, Notman Tate John Bradbury, Lynn Karp Charles Nichols, Art Palmer Don Tobin, Don Patterson Marvin Woodward, Hugh Fraser John Elliotte animated everything else.
@jedidarrick They're both preceded by Wladyslaw Starewicz's 1934 stop motion film "The Mascot", which had the same basic premise of toys coming to life, and almost a century before that was Hans Christian Andersen's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier".
im in my late 20s and still love singing the songs to this movie. such an underated and forgotten film. glad at least SOMEONE likes it instead of saying its for kids that dont know what good is. i love cartoons and this is one of the bests.
Thank you for posting! I've been searching for this for years, I couldn't remember the name and it occurred to type "rag doll" and cartoon and finally found it here. I know there's a scene somewhere where they're in a pot or ocean of toffee, or caramel...or something.
You gotta feel bad for Andy being stuck under that heavy Box. Andy's seams must be popped from Ann pulling him out from under there... I'd never do that to one of my toys...
Wow.. i can't believe I'm watching this. I must have seen this 100 times as a kid. Thanks for restoring this and putting it up here. i can't believe the memories flowing back. Also, if you're a child a of the 80's as i am perhaps you remember a movie with a very Dr. Suess feel to it that was about a young man somthing Puck going after a middle eastern princess. the Song "kar-something Puck, where the heck are you" plays in my head to this day and i can't remember the film. Thanks again!
Oh my GOD. I was talking about this movie to my husband earlier today, and how much it frightened me when I was a child. All I remember is Raggedy Ann and Andy (my husband's name, ha!) sailing on a sea of dough or something...Watching right now, thank you for uploading this and sharing it with other children of the 80s, who clearly weren't scared enough the first time!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mom taped it on VHS and me and my sister use to watch it all the time! I still recall being scared of the camel scene and quickly fast forwarding that part, but watching the sweet goop monster song over and over again. XD
Kristian Aquino No, I didn't know that. I mean, I heard that brought up in missoliverandblossom's second Q&A. But I wasn't sure if that was true or not.
Kristian Aquino Then, I'm just so glad that I grew up with her as Stacy Jones than this. Also, you do know that I was making a reference to the Nostalgia Critic. Right?
Dragonrider1227 OMG, yes!!! That would be awesome! Unfortunately, if that did happen if Raggedy Andy was in the film along with her, Mark Baker wouldn’t be able to reprise his role as Andy like he did 42 years ago in this movie because he just died five months ago on August 13th 2018. :(
I have spent the last 20 years trying to work out if my memory of this film was real or just some bizarre dream. Turns out I'm not crazy after all. Thanks for sharing!

It seems that some of our younger viewers who claim they are "creeped out" and 'scared" of this charming movie, may have watched so many horror movies or so much dark imagery that they have wrecked their minds. Now, they can't even appreciate the beauty in this fun little movie. Sad.

Thanks for restoring and uploading this. As weird and bizarre as this movie is, I will say I like the way it credits the individual character animators in the opening credits. I wish more animated films would do that.

I really really really like the animation style! Its so lovely
***** yeah :3
I would find this SO much creepier if the animation weren't so charming!
This movie may not be perfect, but you have to give gold medals to the animators not only for being able to capture Marcella's live action room in animation perfectly but also for being able to animate The Greedy later on in the film.
And no girls toy was something to be admired. Andy's fluid movements is something else
Raggedy Ann Is A Female 🎎♀️
And the way they did the animated to still fades was amazing for this era!!!
The original Toy Story long before Buzz and Woody
So it's like Toy Story but without the most interesting characters? Hmmmm
True dat
looneytoon76 The original story of Raggedy Ann was written back in 1915. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have Toy Story. All movies and stories relating to toys coming to life can be traced to this.
It's like Toy Story except everyone's on drugs
@@WindowshadeCure - To YOU because that's probably all you know is getting high.
*My reaction before **5:16*
Well this doesn't seem to baaaaAAAAOH DEAR GOD WHAT IS THAT?!!!!
MrZee Starting out the creep factor, though I get the feeling this one was completely unintentional.
Rubberman202 Yeah, emphasis on "creep." honestly though, what was with those dolls? Those things seriously had no reason to be in this film, naked no less. Then again with how crazy this movie gets, that's debatable.
MrZee The fact that they sing every line the get is also something I wonder.
MrZee omg same lol
Upon death, you are sent to purgatory. There, these two will judge your life's actions and rule whether you go to Paradise with the Lord, or sent to Hell.
Somehow Didi Conn's voice is just absolute perfect for Ann
@Sarah Reaume I think it adds part of the charm to the voice
Am I the only one watching this because of the animation quality?
Fun fact, it was actually one of the earliest COMPUTER animated cartoons. The full thing wasn't CG I don't think, but there's a clip of 4 key frames of ann bowing and doing a curtsy, the computer then animated the rest of her (Which is how I found this). Nope \(^o^)/
Iunno why everyone is saying this movie creeps them out.
Anne has to be the sweetest cinnamon roll ever.
This entire movie is pure wholesomeness.
Except for the part with the greedy, that's some lovecraftian nightmare fuel.
Raggedy Ann is so pure I luv her so much 🥺💖✨
Yes! Didi Conn was perfectly cast as Raggedy Ann. It's EXACTLY the type of voice you would expect her to have.
Seriously, what is UP with those freaking twin dolls?!
Rubberman202 there cute I have seven
I think they're based out of the penny peg dolls/dutch dolls, they were characters from the original book, but to be honest tho, the one from the movie looks way freaky than the actual dolls
5:15 you're welcome !!
The Voice of raggedy Ann is didi conn, didi conn is the girl who played frenchy in the movie grease
I saw this for the first time last month I gotta say: instant classic.
I'm quite impressed and even rather endeared that they gave each animator a credit AND said who they animated
Remember watching this when u was five or six in 1995 in a kids channel in Greece wow I have some creepy memories about it but at the same time some weirdly happy memories also
"Where'd ya go? Where'd ya go? What did you do, & why?..."
34 years later and I still recall the songs & dialogue. Ahh youth.
I loved this movie as a child. I still love it now. Toy Story made me hope they would rerelease raggedy ann because I burned out my copy watching it too much as a child.
Annabelle had a movie before The Conjuring and Annabelle
Coverdrivegirl yup she sure did
uh... I don't get it, human are so complicated
+Coverdrivegirl True, and I think this one is muck nicer and kinder than the Anabelle from those new movies, hahaa.
Funny you mention that. The original Annabelle is a possessed Raggedy Ann doll.
c mamo :v
This movie is literally *ancient* why does it hold up so well????
You can clearly hear Joe Raposo here at the beginning. Also see our "restoration comparison" to see the missing frames in this scene that I had to replace from VHS.
9:41 Brat Pitt: AWW,WHAT'S IN THE BOX, WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!?!?!
I never saw this cartoon before.....but I don't know why it makes me cry.....it have a sorta of "pure" aura.....
omg...I thought I'd never see this movie again. It was my favorite movie EVER when I was a little girl, and watching it now...literally brings back so much...
This just taught me how friendly raggedy ann and Andy really are
You know, for as creepy as this movie is, there is something really endearing about it.
This movie is so trippy but it is still so awesome and fun!
Laura B of course it's trippy. It was from the late seventies
No matter how mixed the reviews are, it is one of the greatest animated movies from my early childhood; I am also surprised that Maxi-Fixit is voiced by the same person behind Simon Bar Sinister from the Underdog cartoon; I wish this movie is on DVD.

5:16 Oh my god it's Princess Leia's long lost Triplet sisters LOL XD.
I ran this as a projectionist at the Whittwood theatre near Los Angeles when it first came out. I haven't seen it since. The movies opening and closing titles theme music sure brings back a lot of memories. Thank you for your great effort.
This movie brings back soooooo many happy childhood memories.

Why were old animated movies so freaking scary and messed up, the one scene from Akira where whats his butt is in the milk and they are all big toys coming after him reminds me of this crap.
I guess animation was so cool at the time, animators decided to just play around with it by making all kinds of weird or "creepy" cartoons
Joe Raposo one of the greatest songwriters we ever had on this earth.
3:57 - 4:15 That small piece of music makes me so happy that I almost start tearing up.
I'm sure some people worked hard on this, but the two twins...
Richard Williams animated the opening title of this film entirely by himself. The guy is anankastic, to say it bluntly.
Kohiruimaki ``LLENN`` Karen [ピンクの悪魔] but people tend to skip openings :( amazing effort tho! He's absolutely one of the best!
Watch for a walk-on appearance at 0:18 by composer of the film Joe Raposo as "Joe" the school bus driver.
This movie is just so charming. I wish we had more movies like these for children to watch. Yes even the weird stuff. That's the best stuff of all things.
A real family classic. I love it. Something G-rated for a change.
R.I.P. Joe Raposo for who he worked on the music and lyrics to this and worked for the songs from 'Sesame Street'!
2021 is no the same that 1977 and I'm a 90's guy And for some reasond I miss this days.
That girl rides the short bus. Laughing out loud!
Like the Peanut Butter Solution...this movie provided traumatic memories when I was a little kid. Thanks so much for doing this project and posting it to TH-cam. A favorite of mine from my childhood and I'm thrilled to be able to see it again.
am i the only one who is watching this because they watched the nostalgia critic and wanted to see it ?
nope you are not alone
magicamadeye Not anymore you're not. X3
5:15 - 5:31
NC: ... Raggedy Ann scares me!!!
Me too!
Morgan Hoskins i'm so glad about that, i showed this to my little sister, she hates me now for scaring the crap out of her
magicamadeye Nope, same here.
am i the only one who thinks of the Annabell doll everytime i see a Raggedy Ann Doll Raggedy Ann came before Annabell
Who else was afraid of the greedy growing up? Now I'm creeped out by the twin dolls.
Sees opening scene...first thing in my head:
"Pull my string, the party's today?"
And oh yeah...the twins...those evil twins...
2:52 i like that they credited the character animators on wich character they animated. Imagine if Disney did something like that.
HERE'S AN EXAMPLE.
Milt Kahl
animated
Pinocchio.
Ward Kimball
animated
Jiminy Cricket
Art Babbit
animated
Geppeto.
Eric Larson
animated
Figaro.
Norman Ferguson
animated
Honest John and Gideon.
Vladimir Tytla
animated
Stromboli.
Fred Moore
animated
Lampwick.
Wolfgang Reitherman
animated
Monstro the whale.
Frank Thomas, Les Clark
Ollie Johnston, Preston Blair
Jack Cambell, John Lounsbery
Berny Wolf, Don Towsley
Don Lusk, Notman Tate
John Bradbury, Lynn Karp
Charles Nichols, Art Palmer
Don Tobin, Don Patterson
Marvin Woodward, Hugh Fraser
John Elliotte
animated everything else.
You'd think they would have heard Andy struggling earlier on.
That singing doll dance is so oddly catchy.
Li'l trivia : The li'l girl in this is named after the daughter of Johnny Gruelle. (The original creator of the Raggedy Anne & Andy toys/stories.)
The way the kid treated poor Raggedy Ann at the very beginning! :P
RIP Richard Williams
I am going to be Raggedy Andy for Halloween 2021.
Nice
@jedidarrick They're both preceded by Wladyslaw Starewicz's 1934 stop motion film "The Mascot", which had the same basic premise of toys coming to life, and almost a century before that was Hans Christian Andersen's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier".

You gotta feel bad for Andy being stuck under that heavy Box.
Andy's seams must be popped from Ann pulling him out from under there...
I'd never do that to one of my toys...
thank you so much for this post. it brings back my childhood
Wow.. i can't believe I'm watching this. I must have seen this 100 times as a kid. Thanks for restoring this and putting it up here. i can't believe the memories flowing back. Beautiful andy 💘💗❤
All I could think was "damn that is a lot of stairs for her to be hitting raggedy ann's head on! poor doll."
If you stay after the credits, you see Holly Hobbie appears and tries to recruit them for the Monchichi initiative.
Oh my GOD. I was talking about this movie to my husband earlier today, and how much it frightened me when I was a child. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great movie or not, this was a large part of my childhood. I love it no matter what. :)
Mom taped it on VHS and me and my sister use to watch it all the time!
I still recall being scared of the camel scene and quickly fast forwarding that part, but watching the sweet goop monster song over and over again. XD
When I suddenly realize that Toy Story completely ripped off Raggedy Andy
RAGGEDY ANN SCARES ME!!!
Did you know that raggedy ann is voiced by stacy jones
Kristian Aquino No, I didn't know that. I mean, I heard that brought up in missoliverandblossom's second Q&A. But I wasn't sure if that was true or not.
Yep it's true
She was played by didi con
Kristian Aquino Then, I'm just so glad that I grew up with her as Stacy Jones than this. Also, you do know that I was making a reference to the Nostalgia Critic. Right?
There's a Toy story 4 on the way. I vote Nay I DEMAND that Raggedy Ann appear in it somewhere with Didi Conn reprising her role.

Andy was under the box
Yes, Andy is Ann's brother. They're twins in a way.
I have spent the last 20 years trying to work out if my memory of this film was real or just some bizarre dream. Turns out I'm not crazy after all. Thanks for sharing!
Wwwooooooowww! My sister and I watched this movie all of the time. I have been looking for this! Thank you so much for posting

Nostalgia Critic: RAGGEDY ANN SCARES ME!! :(
... did this happen in the video?? thats not what thet say at that part !
kiiwiifuzzzz
it's a joke. the dolls scare a lot of people.
It seems that some of our younger viewers who claim they are "creeped out" and 'scared" of this charming movie, may have watched so many horror movies or so much dark imagery that they have wrecked their minds. Now, they can't even appreciate the beauty in this fun little movie. Sad.
Chill it's only a movie, no need for an ALL CAPS RAGE.
Thank u so so much! This is a wonderful memory of my childhood.
Thank you TheThieArchive, for uploading this movie, bring back my childhood..
I wish I was born, from this days 😆simple life ...I love raggedy ann 😍 & andy...I'm hugging my raggedy ann & andy dolls...2:30 am,right now in my country, nothing suppose to be scared of dolls..
I watched this movie a lot back in the early 80s. Happy memories.
5:17 those dolls are terrifying to me
I only remember Raggedy Ann and Andy from a book I had when I was about 5 or 6. It wasn't the old one, but when we got rid of it, I was very sad, and even though I'm.not little anymore, I'm.still glad to see them both. :-)
If it wasn't for youtube, id never remember that this existed! Ty!
Not only did I watch this a lot as a kid, but I actually listened to a tape of it at night. Even without the visuals, the audio is just as insane.
One way to get your mind off the demon doll version. 😊
I remember this movie as a kid. The animation FREAKED me out for years, the only reason I'm looking at it now is I just found out that Andy is voiced by "Cousin Larry" of Perfect Strangers (one of the greatest show of the 80's)!!
I remember siing this as a kid and being a little fraked out by The Greedy. Thanks for posting so I can be freaked out all over again! Sharing on Facebook with all my animation friends and cohorts!
I love raggedy andy❤❤❤
I really think that Dolly always see something so beautiful and so happy 🌟.
Raggedy Ann and Andy are the ancestors of the lalaloopsy! rag dolls in my opinion
both are rag dolls!
I remember this movie too XD Used to watch it a lot when I was young.
Thanks for restoring and uploading this. As weird and bizarre as this movie is, I will say I like the way it credits the individual character animators in the opening credits. I wish more animated films would do that.
