    Alright alright guys... embarrassingly enough I definitely forget that the building was the notre dame. Genuinely didn’t have the slightest clue when i filmed this.
    No I didn’t no what a catacomb was either. Until now.
    I also now know that gypsies is a slur. So you can all stop saying “google it”. I wasn’t trying to be offensive or anything I just really didn’t know. I thought I made it very clear in the video. But sometimes I just don’t understand how ya come up with the stuff ya comment about me lol. But I get it. I’ll have to do disclaimers for every video clearly.
    None of this was fake. Just 100% lack of knowledge. Thanks for watching I do appreciate it! See ya in the next video! #bingers

      i swear your viewers set you up suggesting this movie without explaining some stuff first, and like not to be prejudiced, but you are from the US so i'm not suprised if you weren't aware that it was a slur since the romani people are mostly in europe, still like the reaction tho. we all learn something new everyday 😅 the trouble with being a reactor on youtube is definitely the amount of people who are waiting to pounce on your for any mistake or lack of knowledge

      For god sake, this is what happens when parents let 11 year olds have TH-cam accounts 🙈 the whole "I know more than you and will tell you disrepectfully" attitude. Why people can't just be kind I don't know. I mean, I only know about the catacombs beneath Paris purely because of the film As Above, So Below which I think is way more embarrassing than just not knowing altogether lol x

      Dude you even said first time watching and you knew nothing about it. The point is that you learned from it afterwards. And gypsies as a slur is only coming from the Christian/Catholic church. Actual gypsies don't see it as that nowadays. I'm just glad you learned something today. It's kinda why I wish people cared about history a bit more - even moreso when you were school. Bit to be also fair. History in school is designed to be memorized and not all true. Plus the white washing and lack of understanding from other backgrounds from different countries. But hey. I'd rather people be learning about it now than never.

      It's not that he didn't need a girlfriend, it's that it shows the difference between Frollo and Quasi. Both couldn't "get the girl". Frollo's reaction was "you are mine or you die", while Quasi's reaction was "I'm sad but I support you anyway".
      If Esmerelda got with Quasi, it wouldn't have been as effective.

    In the song hellfire when Frollo says it’s not my fault, the background voices that say “me a culpa” are his conscience, and me a culpa is Latin for “it’s my fault” so while he is saying it’s not his fault, his guilt is telling him that he’s lying to himself and that he is the one to blame for his own actions, thoughts, and impulses

    • @IromoBeric
      @IromoBeric 3 ปีที่แล้ว +95

      It's also very interesting that at the end of that song when the guard comes in to tell Frollo that Esmeralda has escaped, the guard is bathed in light. It seems symbolic: The guard telling Frollo that Esmeralda has escaped is Frollo's last chance for redemption. If he was seeking forgiveness and redemption, he should have stopped pursuing Esmeralda at that point. But, he tells the guard to get out and turns back towards the fire. He sealed his fate.

    Disney movies having kids locked in towers forever is probably based on things that actually happen. People with physical or mental disabilities were not welcome in society up until very recently. A child born with a disability or deformity would commonly be drowned or left in the wilderness to die. Families who could afford to support a family member who was not able to work or who would "embarrass" the family by being seen would sometimes keep the disabled in an attic, cellar, shed, etc., somewhere where they could not be seen or heard instead of killing them outright. Often there was no record of these people even existing until they were dead. One high profile case is Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of JFK.

    Disney was dropping hints about a live-action remake of this one, but that was shortly before Notre Dame actually burned (2019). This is one of my all-time favorite Disney animated movies, but watching it now just breaks my heart. Watching the news that night... I’m from the USA, but I was sobbing at the sight. I can only imagine how devastating it was in France...

    • @jasminejames1090

      They still can. The CGI can make it as if the fire never happened, 4 the movie only, & the $$$ from the box office/ordering it via Premier Access on Disney+ going towards helping Paris rebuild and protect it from something similar happening again.

    • @DoranGale
      @DoranGale 3 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      They still can, but it wouldn’t be right when the trauma of the fire is so fresh. They need to help rebuild Notre Dame if the movie is that important to them. Are you American too? 9/11/2001, the Twin Towers were destroyed. All movies in production that featured the towers edited and them out, out of respect for those mourning. No one was killed when Notre Dame burned, but it was still a traumatic event for much of the world. Imagine what it would feel like to watch Notre Dame burn again on screen, just a couple years later. If Disney execs care about anything but money, they’ll tread carefully.

    • @jasminejames1090
      @jasminejames1090 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      True... That would be difficult to see like any movie that had the twin towers in it b4 9/11 😔😔😔 The idea of the movie being a way 2 rebuild & protect Notre Dame is still a good one though; if Disney & France's government work together to do it right. I wouldn't support a live action remake otherwise.

I don't know if Disney is one of the donors or not, but if they didn't jump on board right away, they missed the boat and Paris doesn't need their money now. @Mel An I wanted to reply to this with a link, but TH-cam won't let me. So instead, I'll post a small blurb from the page I was going to link to with the disclaimer that this is not my writing and a recommendation that you Google "The Mindful Mermaid: Why It's Time to Stop Saying Gypsy" to read the full thing:
      “Gypsy” is a racial slur for the Roma or Romani people with Romanian origins and originally of Indian decent. They speak Romani, which is a language similar Hindi or Persian.
      When the Roma people left India in the 11th century, the Europeans mistook them as Egyptian. This is where the slur “gypsy” comes from. This is the word that was then used to describe the Roma people through centuries of oppression.
      The Catholic Church oppressed and restricted Roma from purchasing land. The Hungarian and Romanian nobles enslaved the Roma during the 15th century. In 15th century Germany, the government ordered average citizens to kill gypsies living among them as well. Eastern Europe, Spain, and Italy expelled the Roma, forcing them to disperse throughout Europe.
      Eastern Europe freed them of slavery in the mid-1800s, but the Scandinavians launched a sterilization programs against them in the 20th century.
      Then, the Nazis killed as many as 220,000 Roma people in WW2. As William O’Connor wrote for the Daily Beast,
      “It is a story of suffering that parallels the trials of Jews in Europe. However, while the Holocaust has at the very least made Europe grapple with its history of anti-Semitism, there has been no such reckoning for the Romani. While the Romani were also targeted by the Nazis and sent to die by the thousands in concentration camps, the post-war German government did not recognize them as victims of racial persecution.”
      Europeans used the word “gypsy” as a racial slur throughout these centuries to justify the discrimination and persecution of the Roma people. It’s crucial for travelers to understand that these origins still have a direct negative impact today.

    One of my absolute favorites. If you think the movie was dark, oh boy, let's not get into how much more tragic the book is. Frollo is the scariest Disney villain easily in my eyes because that's a man who really exists. Walking among us, living a life as a saint but inside their a monster. We've all met a Frollo, weather we know it or not and that haunts me.

  • @jamesmoyner7499
    @jamesmoyner7499 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Frollo and his song Hellfire are considered the greatest Disney villain and villain song. The choir are actually singing in Latin so during Hellfire when Frollo is singing “It’s not my fault” the robed guys are saying the “Through my fault. Through my most grievous fault”.
    Tom Hulce who plays Quasimodo was Amadeus in the film of the same name. Demi Moore is Esmerelda, Kevin Kline is Phebus.
    This was turned into in a off broadway musical and was supposed to have gone to Broadway, but Disney didn’t want to pay the choir costs so Frozen went to Broadway instead.
    During the Out There sequence you can see Belle reading a book, a man with the carpet from Aladdin, and two men carrying Pumbaa. Everyone agrees the Gargoyles and their song is the weakest part of the film. The people who directed this film (Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise) directed Beauty and the Beast and would go on to direct Atlantis the Lost Empire.
    In the original book everyone died- Quasimodo, Frollo, Phebus, and Esmerelda and Frollo was a priest in the original book.
    The song writers were Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

    Actually most of the Disney Renaissance movies had the same songwriters: Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.
    Also, this is probably the darkest Disney movie and it’s not even as dark as it could’ve been. Watching it as a kid, lots of stuff went over my head. It was a totally different experience as an adult because some stuff was made a little clearer. Like Frollo’s obsession with Esmeralda.

    I know this one is easily one of Disney's darkest movies, but it's personally my favorite. Frollo is the scariest kind of villain (the one who truly believes they're in the right) and the soundtrack is Disney's best imho. Every single song (except the one the gargoyles do) is a certified banger

    This movie was based off a book by Victor Hugo, the same guy who wrote Les Miserables. Like many of the inspirations Disney used for their movies, even this dark film is much nicer than the original text. But at least in that Billy would get his catharsis of Quasimodo killing Frollo.

    Regarding "Gypsy" being a slur, I see a lot of people that aren't Romani in the comments insisting it's not one and that Romani people are fine with it. I am Romani. It is totally UNTRUE that we, as a people, are fine with the word. It IS a slur, as is "gypped." We are a diaspora people of Indian, not Egyptian, origin. Our foreign language, our darker appearance, and our traditional clothing mistakenly led to the assumption we were of African heritage, rather than East Asian--hence the term "Gypsy." In Europe, particularly Eastern Europe, we were subsequently subjected to 500 years of slavery and up to 1.5 million of us were slaughtered by the Nazis in the Holocaust. Granted, not everybody is aware of our history or what word is proper to call us. But, in time, more and more people have learned and so they have stopped using "Gypsy," which is great. A lot of good people are making an effort to be non-offensive & respectful on this issue; even correcting those who are misinformed. Other people, it seems, really want to talk for us and tell us what our actual word for ourselves is--which isn't their right.

    I just realise this that Quasimodo could have let go and Frollo would have fallen. On some level I think he did “love” Frollo so he couldn’t kill him but in the end Frollo did it to himself.
    And this is why I love the Hunchback of Notre Dame because Disney wasn’t afraid to go there to places where the kids movies wouldn’t normally go. This was back when Disney was not afraid to get dark and to get real.

  • @cniknik9863

    Can you believe the real story is darker. Hunchback of Notre Dam is a book, written by the same man who wrote Les Miserables. Esmeralda actually dies at the end and Quasi waits by her grave until he turns to dust. And Phoebus is a giant a**hole who sleeps with Esperalda knowing she loves him, but ends up leaving her for another woman and actually watches Frollo kill her in the public execution (burning her at the stake). Quasi did end up killing Frollo to avenged Esmeralda though.

    The scene where the city turns on QuasiModo during the Feast of Fools is the only part of this movie that I feel isn’t done justice. In the original, Quasi accidentally kills someone and was tied up / put in stocks as punishment. Obviously they aren’t going to put that in the movie, but you would think that they’d at least make him knock someone over and then punish him for assault.

    Fun fact: This movie is based off a book by Victor Hugo, who's biggest reason for writing The Hunchback of Notre Dame was because they were planning on tearing Notre Dame down and Hugo did not like this so he used the book to let other people know how beautiful the church was. This obviously worked and is why Notre Dame was left standing and became so popular.

He died wrapped around her body and when they guards try to move the bodies, they turn to dust.
